If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Lost power to car on freeway

Happened to me on 5/19, same deal, 65 mph, engine and ESC lights come on, no response from gas pedal, but no loss of electric. 2009, 3.8 with tech package, 25,000 miles. Car has been hesitating for about two months prior, but the dealer found no problems in April when I was there for regular service. Appt. with my dealer on 6/1, I'll let you know what happens.

Quick question:
Why June 1 instead of May 20?
Thanks.

my brother's '09 maxima was only two weeks old and the same thing happened but left him stranded on the hwy for an hour. finally started up. after three visits they found the crank sensor was faulty.. can happen to any car at anytime. no need to worry. car stalls you put your right signal on and make your way over to the shoulder, hazzards on and wait for assistance. it's not like some counter force is causing you to remain in harms way if the car stalls or bogs down. i almost feel sorry for people who have never driven a pos in their lives before lol. teaches you how to be in control in many situations. just like those people in those Explorers back in the day.. tire blow up "what do i do!!" how about not jerk the wheel and slam on the brake, coast to a slow roll. when driving ANY vehicle on any road i am prepared for the worst are you?

First day that my schedule and the dealer's schedule coincided.

Ok for those that wait until the engine light goes out to get it checked. good luck getting anything done unless they can duplicate the problem. mostlikely it is the throttle position sensor but they can't just replace a part without proof of a problem. if the dealer is apointment only have roadside assistance tow it in the code will be there and they will fix it.

Just had the same thing happen to me last week. I had the car towed to the dealer and it turned out to be the throttle positioning sensor. Fixed under warranty and everything is ok now.

Well after 65k miles and 31 months of ownership I experienced my first on-road defect with my 2009 3.8. Driving through the mountains in Pennsylvania yesterday the car lost power and I had to pull over. No Check Engine or ESC light came on at that time but engine would not rev above 3000rpm even with transmission in park. Switched off and on a couple of times and was able to accelerate gently back to highway speed. Ran OK at gentle throttle openings but any sudden movement on the accelerator caused the engine to buck and lose power. After a few miles the Check Engine light came on and stayed on. Still no ESC light though.

Checked the Nav for the nearest Hyundai Dealer and it showed one in Corning NY about 35 miles away, so headed for that. Nav had me turn into a Wal-Mart parking lot but no dealership. Called roadside assistance and they told me there was no dealer in Corning! Considering I just updated the Nav last fall I was a bit PO'd.

Decided to head for home and after a couple of re-starts was able to get back to the gentle acceleration mode (first few starts the car had no power at all) and didn't turn the engine off until I pulled into our driveway. Driving in traffic through Buffalo was the worst as it really didn't want to accelerate from low speed. Weird thing was after crossing the border into Canada the symptoms disappeared and I had full power again . Heading for the dealer today, will keep you posted.

Well, predictably the dealer could find no reason for my power loss and could not replicate the problem. They pulled codes P0171 and P0174 from the ECU (both banks lean?) but apparently this did not indicate any specific fault. I'm driving back down to PA next Monday so I guess I just have to wait for the problem to recurr and hope it stores the right codes next time .

Brought mine in on 6/1, code revealed a problem with the throttle position sensor. According to the dealer, the codes were still there after six days. The dealer replaced everything under warranty with no questions asked. Whole deal took less than an hour, and everything seems fine.

If anyone who has had the throttle position sensor replaced can post the part number, it would be appreciated. I realize this work is done under warranty, but I thought maybe the part number is on the receipt.

I found one source that says price is $33.37, but not usre if installation is a DIY job. The problem seems to be somewhat common on various V6 engines in the Hyundai product line (not just Genesis).

One thing I am going to do is print a copy of this thread and keep it in my car in case it happens to me and a dealer starts giving me crap about "can't reproduce the problem."

Once you replace this part with this updated part# you will need to have the dealer update the PCM to the latest firmware or you will have problems with it.

Look for TSB# 10-FL-010 in www.hmaservice.com the pdf is too big for me to post

My 2010 Genesis which just hit a year old on the 10th of June is now back in the shop for it's 2nd Throttle Body replacement in a little over 2 months. When they pulled codes on it each time it said it was the TB or the sensor, so they started with the sensor each time but the problem still remained until the actual Throttle Body was replaced...hopefully for the last time. I should have it back in about 2 days, waiting on the part to arrive.

Each time this has happened I noted that the car for a lack of better terms seemed to totally lose power momentarily when I was demanding it to get up and go...then sometimes only a second later..sometimes 2-3 seconds it would "wake back up" and launch you as it began to rapidly accelerate. No electronic stability control light was showing at any time. This has happened from both a complete stop pulling out into traffic and while at speed trying to pass other vehicles. This is a really bad problem no matter how you look at it...I'm glad they are fixing it under warranty but it worries me that the engine has now had 3 issues in just a year. The other engine related problem was a faulty Oil Control Valve.

Great car, one of the best I have owned for my $...but I'd rather have it on the road then in the shop every time I turn around.

On a side note, just saw a 2012 Genny at my dealership...Overall I think it's really sweet looking, don't like where they relocated the blinkers to on the front and rear of the car, they are not visible from the sides at all and the ones on the mirrors are not bright enough to be seen well during the day. I like the look of the light running through the middle of the headlights, makes the car look really "mean" from the front. The redesigned rear end also looks great. It was a silver 4.6L V8 fully loaded....also of note they no longer are using the Dunlop 235/50R18's on the car, it has been switched over to Michelin 235/50R18's...still a 97V rating M+S all season.

Any idea which Michelin tire exactly?

I'm really not sure how I feel about these tires from a performance standpoint...only because they really need to prove themselves still, they are great on mileage though vs. the Dunlop's (55k miles vs. less than 30k on the Dunlops). Here is the link:

Here is what Tire Rack reviews have to say about them:

vs. best in category: Continental Extreme Contact DWS

Hope this helps some :)

We have a V6 sedan with the Technology & Performance options. It is a 2012. So far it has had the transmission replaced, (38000 miles) The air conditioner compressor, (42000 miles) and has been into 2 different dealerships in Las Vegas for stalling while driving. The dealer is absolutely useless when it comes to these problems. One said it was the BCM needing resetting. They had the car for 3 days and the problem still exists. The second dealer was told that this could be a life threatening event and that I could find no codes, so please take it for a ride. I had to leave the car there overnight as I had several other complaints (A/C for one). I live 70 miles away from the nearest dealer and had not been told that they would need it overnight, so I had to rent a car to get home in. I recorded the mileage when I dropped it off and when I picked it up, the mileage was the same! I was told that they could not duplicate the problem and there were no codes. (I told them I had checked the codes after the car stalled the last time and there were NO CODES) They also told me that the A/C compressor was bad again after only 11 months since they had replaced it. They told me that since I had put 13000 miles on it, that I was over the warranty and it would be $1500.00 to replace it. I asked them to call the other dealer where I had had the car in for the same problems 4 months prior to verify that I had complained about the A/C problem and the engine stalling. They got the verification but said that it didn't mater as the other dealer said that the BCM reflash took care of all of the problems. I would have to take it up with Hyundai Corporate or pay $1500.00 to get the A/C fixed and that they could not duplicate the stalling engine or fix anything without a trouble code for verification.

All the above was on Friday,July 14,2017 and today is Monday July17, 2017 and again when driving home from Las Vegas, it stalled again. The outside temp was a balmy 105 degrees and the traffic was again heavy. Same thing happened, ie: AC goes to hot (just what you need when it is 105 degrees), all dash lights light up, the engine quits and you pray you can get to the side of the road with out getting hit. The car started right up and went over the hump to Pahrump without further incidents. Tomorrow I will notify the dealership and let them know what has happened and that their is a complaint lodged with the NHTSA.

I had this happen as I was turning left across oncoming traffic just last week. It basically coasted into the parking lot. I had my 3 year old in the car... It restarted of course and it acted like it never happened. I wonder if it happens again and i get hit or worse, If Hyundai can be held responsible ? Most likely not if the code goes away after a while or is never produced.

File a complaint on the NHTSA website. It's the only thing that will get their attention.
