  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Everyone, Just got my new, white-beige leather, V 6 tech package Genesis. I've noticed the light distribution of the headlights (low beam) falls off too quickly. Adjusting the aim slightly higher would likely correct this. Have others found this to be a problem? If so, how has it been addressed? Very much appreciate your input and advice.

Hi Faudr, I have the same problem and plan to have it looked at during my first maintenance visit.

Consumers Report commented on this issue concerning the 2015 Genesis. One of the only negative comments. I have read other threads that stated they took it in for alignment and the dealer said it was correct! They also stated that they had them compare the Genesis with other Hyundai's and found other models had better range. At that point they did get them readjusted for longer vision. I hope to pick up a 2016 soon and that will be on my radar. Perhaps Hyundai "adjusts" the headlights to fit other country requirements? Just a thought.

I was quite suprised that this car didn't have auto leveling HID headlights.. The auto brights lights make up for the low beams but I will have to look into having the headlights aimed correctly. The low beams throw plenty of light but it's all in front of the car and not down the road.

My car has HID's and when they come on I don't see any movement. With my older lexus I could actually see the lights dip down and adjust .. I'll deffinately read up more on this

As the Tech package has HID - it does indeed have auto level - as per USDOT.

I do have to agree that the cutoff is just a tad too low. I had the same issue with my Azera and notched it up.

I looked under the hood on the Genny and cannot seem to find the adjustment for the level sensor. I did find the headlight adjustment - but that is connected to the small motor that handles the leveling. Changing that will not change the orientation of the sensor - and it will simply revert back to where it was. Anyone happen to know where the sensor adjustment is? It is eluding me.

My dealer said my headlights were aimed low and adjusted them. They are much better now.

I don't own one yet!! Waiting for the 2016! I have been told that the head lights are self leveling. See it in videos as well? Perhaps you have a "Self Leveling" issue? I have a 2016 Toyota Avalon and it self level's every time I turn it one. Great feature. If it doesn't self level you may have other issues as well?:): Check it out. Be safe!

The sensor would adjust accordingly it would just be the highest cut off. I could be wrong. I did move mines up a few months ago there's time I see then high and times low. https://www.hyundaitechinfo.com/ you could definitely get a answer if you look through the dealers manual but it cost $20 for a week

Or you could tell me how you did it :) Do you have a Signature or higher?

I adjusted the headlights. I was unaware of the sensor's until you mention them.

And did they remain adjusted - or did they level themselves back out? Do you have a Signature or higher trim level? If you have Base then this is a moot question :)

At least with the Gen1, you adjust the whole housing, which moves the auto-level point and everything.

Here's a thread where this has been discussed before:

Ultimate. Why would they correct themselves. To my understanding the auto level works depending on the weight of your passenger they adjust down up base on where they sitting or in different speed, cornering. To answer your question yes they remain adjusted. I'm not 100% sure feel free to correct me

There are level sensors in most HID assemblies... think the bubble in a straight level. They aim up more when you are coming down a hill, and less when going up, etc - so as not to blind drivers and not to cut off too much visible distance for you, etc.

I am not trying to correct you - I am just curious how exactly you adjusted the level. What screw/bolt specifically. I might be wrong on the design of the 15's with HIDs - but I was under the impression that the level would be attached to the inside assembly itself so that adjusting itt from the screw the motor is attached to wouldn't accomplish what want.

So did you adjust them at the screw on the middle on the back, shrouded by white plastic - which the motor attaches to? If not - where exactly did you adjust them at?

People with low cut-off's (that would be me :) ) want to know! :)

Thanks!

You need a long slim Phillips screwdriver. That white plastic tube is where you adjust the low beam cut off. You can't miss it. Insert your screw driver there and rotate. Make sure the car is level and there no weight on it
