If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I need some help. I want to keep the same diameter tires (18" on a 2011 4.6) but looking for some lower profile tires. Just don't like the way the standard tires look. More than likely going to get a set of OZ rims to mount them on.

I like the black noir (black black?) with the chrome trim so I am not going to black the whole thing out. However, I am looking to darken the tail lights and the mirror side markers. Any suggestions?

Thanx.

Exactly! I love the way your car looks, but I want to go more with the chrome highlights instead of the pure black. I want the dark tail light covers and the mirror side markers. I plan on getting the grill painted black and keep the chrome. As far as wheels, either the Advanti PO Prodigo(Machined w/Black Accent) or the OZ Ultraleggera or the OZ Alleggerita HLT, both in black.

Would like some lower profile tires though, don't like the way the stock look. Ideas?

Thanx

Keeping the OEM wheel size and getting a low profile tire will give the car a lot of fender gap, and may look quite awkward. Is this what you're going for? If you don't like the look of the tire sidewall, you could always swap out the tires for a different set...

Yeah, didn't think about that. I am not very knowledgeable about tires /wheels and replacing the stock with different sizes. I was worried about wheel clearance, and am not a huge fan about adding spacers. Although to be truthful, I have not really done a lot of research on that subject.

I was hoping to get some advice in here before I start doing serious research and make a decision. I would like to replace the tires with a lower profile, but as you mentioned, would not want to have a huge space between the tires and the wheel wells.

If you reduce the sidewall spec (ex. the "40" in 225/40/18 tires you can dramatically change things like speedometer readings and abs functionality. Only way to get the low profile look is to upsize the wheel (18" to 19 or 20").

Like NSXNEXT said, if you decrease tire sidewall, you'll have to increase wheel size to keep the overall diameter the same on a car. So, here's how to do it, but there's some conversions in it.

The stock tires are a 235/50 18 - breaks down to
235mm width
50% of 235 = 117.50mm sidewall = 4.63in of sidewall
4.63 in of sidewall x 2 + 18in wheel = 27.26" overall height.

Do the same calculations and you'll find the right tire to fit the 19, 20, or 22" wheel that you'd want to get. The black car you saw in the link is actually mine. They're 22's on it. I'm at SEMA, and I can't remember what size tires or the brand I have. I DO have coilovers, so it's lowered.

Good luck on your search! And if you're not wanting to sit down and calculate all that - there are apps for that. :D

245/40/20 works out to 0% difference between the OE 18" tires. Also, 245/35/20 would be acceptable too! Use the tire calculator on www1010tires.com. Anything under 3% differnce of the O.E. is acceptable. I found a GREAT deal on 245/35/20 Pirelli Pzero tires and 20" Enkei wheels! That's what I'll be running come spring time. I kept the OE wheels and put Blizzak LM60 winter tires on them for a factory look for winter time.
