Wow. I wonder which sounds better...Magnaflow or the Borla?

Good question!

The price alone through performancepeddler.com should answer your question.

Mag: $532
Borla: $1200

Just from the youtube video's you would think that the Borla is A LOT louder than the Magnaflow...which is what I did NOT want.

Maybe my next video will help you out!

Hi All!

I want to apologize for not following through on the video. I've been slammed with work due to quarter end activities. I promise I will have it tomorrow along with more pics.

Thus far I've been getting a lot of compliments, just now I had a guy in a white 4runner pull next to me to look at my car on the way home from work.

Again, I'm really sorry.

PINGGOLF - glad you love it! I think we both share the enthusiasm, the car sounds amazing!

Until tomorrow my friends...

Would surely love to know more about the car which turn heads. Happy for you.

Can anyone tell me what the different models of exhaust from Magnaflow are? It appears they have three different prices...?

Thanks!

Magnaflow list 2 different models, 1 for the V6 and 1 for the V8. If you're looking on performancepeddler.com the part number for the V8 is 16497, and they only have 1 price on this.

Are you perhaps looking on another website?

Thanks scott - I just noticed you have the magnaflow exhaust as well. Did you get yours before the production started for the Genesis? I noticed different exhaust tips... was that something you replaced afterwards?

Also, and I guess this question can go out to all Magnaflow owners, does the noise change over time... like a break in period? ...just wondering...

Thanks.

I got mine done quite a while ago, but I wasn't willing to wait for catback systes, so I bought two MagnaFlow mufflers and tips (changed the tips again) and had them installed. Everything for $350 installed.

HA! It appears I even asked a question in the thread! Thanks for providing it again....

...I'm torn... Today I hit the highway with all the windows down and the peddle to the floor... something just doesn't sound right for amount of horsepower under the hood...

Then... I'm not sure if I want the rumble when cruising country roads at 40mph... Oh the tough decisions in life.

I keep getting confused. Which Scott are you referring to? I too have a custom Magnaflow exhaust.

Actually, I guess I could be talking about both of you! NOW I'M CONFUSSED!

So you have the Porsche style tips? It appears so from the pictures in your profile.... Did you do that cat back or just mufflers and tips?

Yes, I have the Porsche style tips. I have not deleted the secondary cats and did not go cat back. My biggest concern was noise. I tried a couple variations of the system I have now and found that this car has a lot of drone noise from the exhaust, if it's too aggressive. I can't begin to imagine how loud the cabin of that black Genesis with the custom exhaust must be.

I really wanted an almost factory aggressive sound and I have to say, that's exactly what I have. The closest I can come to comparing it to a factory tuned exhaust note, would be the Audi RS6 (twin turbo V8) My buddy had one, and that's exactly what my car sounds like, inside and out.

I think I'm going to keep it as I have it and search out ECU tweaks and TMC tweaks to improve acceleration, before making the car louder.

BTW, that other cat, scottdk, is just an impostor...He came here to capitalize on my unique name (Scott)...... J/K :)

Orlando Scott,

So you have the universal exhaust? Do you have ANY drone at all? How does the car sound at low RPM cruising speed? Possible video on the inside while cruising? I have to admit... until this thread, I had you and the other scott as one in the same... Apparently, I'm not very observant.

Thanks.

The drone can be a BIT loud between 1500-3000 rpms. Under slow acceleration the car is loud. Cold starting it would wake up my neighbor across the street and when I leave for work in the morning you can hear the thing all throughout my neighborhood. Even my dog runs to the door when I enter the neighborhood since she has learned the ID of my exhaust. That is the kinda noise I'm putting out. I have also noticed that the longer I have had the cat-back (bout a year now), the better it sounds. Much clearer than when I first got it, less "tinny" sounding noises, lots of nice backfiring when you let off the gas, very strong tone under normal acceleration. Helps if you have people in the car that you don't want to hear talk. Other issue I have noticed is a pair of burn marks on my rear bumper. Custom set up running the same price as the other Magnaflow guys ($350ish). Is the TAU motor okay on gas?

Prior to my current magnaflow muffler set-up, I replaced the stock mufflers with a straight through glass pack type of muffler on each side. Sounded sick, but way too loud for my taste. My neighbors were experiencing the same wake up call as yours and you could hear my car 1/2 mile away (out of my neighborhood)....Plus, the drone in the car was beyond comfortable.
I think my current set-up is perfect. Very little to no drone at 80 mph, but just enough of a note to recognize this car means business.

So you pieced together your magnaflow exhaust about a year ago for the V6? If so, I wonder if the new cat-back for the V6 sounds similar...?

I know my neighbors will REALLY love me when I pick up the 4.6 next. Any of you gentlemen do a lot of daily driving (mostly city) with your Genesis? If so, hows the gas mileage? Are there any more mods available for the 4.6? The 3.8 is very limited in that respect.

Well I got my magnaflow exhaust installed and love it. But, I'm on the fence of actually keeping it. I've found that the sound is very nice at cruising speeds, but if you live in an urban setting this might not be for you. The reason why I say this is, because the Genesis tends to stay in higher gears, which some may argue that it should be in lower gears when it is not. For some reason, the cabin, in my car gets extremely loud when you are cruising in 5th or 6th gear around 35 to 40 MPH. When you step on the gas to go just a little faster it stays in 5th or 6th gear and that when it is really loud. If the Genesis dropped down to say, 3rd gear or 4th the sound wouldn't be as bad.

I've done some manual driving and it seems to work the best as far as noise goes. The one thing I do like now with the magnaflow exhaust is that I can actually tell what gear I'm in. This is how or why I think the gearing in the Genesis is a little off. She really likes to stay in higher gears at low speeds. Does anyone else feel this way? With the stock exhaust you probably don't notice it that much because you can't HEAR it!

I'm going to give her a week or two anyway. I really enjoy the sound 50% of the time but the other 50% kills me. But like I said, if the Genesis dropped down gears that DEEP exhaust sound would go away. ...and, like some people mention as well as I, you wouldn't shoot off like a rocket ship when getting onto the highway by over pedaling to make up the speed lost why the Genesis hangs in higher gears. Make sense?

Anyway, this is just my opinion. I've never owned an aftermarket exhaust before, but I just know the Genesis needed something else. I hope this works out for me in the end.

Has anyone tried any sound dampening in the trunk area? If so, what were the results?

I thought about it on my first exhaust set-up, since it was so loud in the cabin, but once i switched to the magnaflow mufflers (not sure of the part number, but i'm pretty sure they were designed for the Cobra mustang due to having the same side inlet outlet and straight through design) I'm telling you guys, my car is very livable on the highway and around town. It's almost like a slightly aggressive factory set up from caddilac or the pontiac GTO.

I'll try and find the part number for the mufflers I installed. Also, I didn't
'
t change anything else, other than the mufflers. No cat delete or resonator delete.
