  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The OEM tires on my 4.6 were awful, got rid of them @ 20,000

Bought Michelin Pilot SuperSports from Tire Rack.
I asked the guy who mounted and balanced the tires after he test drove the car if he was OK with his job.
He said in his 25 years of mounting tires he had never seen a more perfect set of tires.
He said he didn't have to use ANY balancing weights what so ever, not ONE anywhere.
He said that all four wheels and tires were as true and balanced as they could be, in other words perfect.

The improvement I feel driving the car is now much better than it was with those cheap OEM Dunlops that came on the car. The car just seems more attached to the road. Wet performance seems better as well.

My decision to buy Pilot SuperSports was if Ferrari and Porsche consider them good enough use them on their new cars they certainly ought to be a good replacement tire on my Hyundai 4.6 V-8.

Where do you live? What's the typical treadlife of those tires, assuming regular rotation and proper alignment?

While they are "sticky", they also have only a 300 wear rating, so on heavy sedans like ours, they're going to go away rather quickly.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Wear rating is not a reflective judge for how long they will last. I've seen 20,000 miles out of 300 tread tires and 20,000 out of 180 tread wear tires. But given that these are summer tires faster wear is a given anyways.

Very good, grippy tires. Be on the look out for screws and other road debris. I had a set of them on a previous car and they seemed to suck up anything that could puncture them.

The wear rating most certainly is a judge on how long a tire lasts. I agree that it isn't a perfectly linear indicator, but a Pilot Super Sport at 300 is definitely not going to last like an AS at 580. Personally, I only got 7K miles out of a rear set on the E55, but they could not be rotated and had to put up with 600+ ft./lb.

I'm just saying that it's not a good measure to go by. Every manufacturer uses their own set of standards. It's not universal. A tire with a lower rating can last longer than one with a higher rating. Nor does a tire rated at 600 mean it will last twice as long as a tire rated at 300.

I have the Conti DW's currently (great tires), however if I was to purchase new tires again soon, I'd consider the Super Sports for sure. I don't buy tires based on treadlife, but it is a small factor. Pilot SS's is one of the few summer tires that have a treadlife warranty (30,000 miles). When I bought the DW's the Pilot SS's were over $350 MORE:eek:

The oem Dunlops aren't cheap! The may be loud, harsh riding and lousy in the snow, plus other less than desirable attributes, but cheap they ain't! By the way, BMW owners with oem run flat tires describe their oem tires similarly to what you hear here about the oem Dunlops.

Yes, but their language is usually a lot more colorful. With the Goodyear 19" run flats in particular, after they succeeded in jarring your teeth and breaking your back, they suffered sidewall bubbles. If you hit a pothole, the tire AND the wheel usually ruptured and bent or cracked! :(

^ +1, my coworker gets worked up talking about the oem tires on his BMW. The run flats are not only everything you said, EXBMWGUY, but they're REALLY expensive to boot.

I agree w/ Vince & Exbmw. Had Dumflops runflats on Lexus GS350. Worst tires I've ever had on a vehicle! So bad that while on a date my passenger asked "what's wrong with your car? What's that noise?" I upgraded to Michelin's MXV4's the next week and it was a totally different car. This was after only 5,000 or so miles!! I should add that I'm happy with my R-Specs Conti's.

I learned a lot by reading these threads about tires for my Genesis. Once I soaked in the knowledge I did some additional research and decided to replace the OEM Dunlops (terrible tires) with a new set of Michelin Sport A/S 3. What a change in how the car handles. Bought them via special order at Costco for around $850 + inclusive. Thanks for the value of your tire discussions,

Thanks for your feedback!

A great tire for the Genesis (and any other luxury car for that matter) is the Falken Azenis PT722. I personally have had the Michelins, and, find the performance, quietness, and grip of the Falken to be superior. They were specifically engineered for Luxury Touring cars. An amazing tire.

I wonder why Falken tires aren't reviewed on tirerack.com? Are they only available in certain regions of the U.S.?

I don't think tirerack sells Falken brand tires. Falken is a brand that Sumitomo Rubber company added in the 1980's.

I've noticed the same thing with Cooper tires. Not on TireRack.

Also no Nokian tires on Tirerack, and their customer loyalty breaks the charts.
