  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

MnSoft updating this spring

Does v13 add android auto for ultimate owners? I just purchased a '16 on Sunday only to find out that there is no android auto. Kind of a buzz kill.

Thanks

Ouch. A little salt in the wound, eh?

Hopefully not an ignorant question....

Can you drive around while it updates (after you put the new SD card in) or do you just need to have the car running and not moving? I wouldn't think it matters but that's not covered in the instructions online.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'd hazard a guess that it would be best to just let the car sit. I intend to not even have the engine running unless required to do so. I have a battery maintainer made specifically for ensuring the proper 'clean' electricity while a software update is done. When it comes to updating, the fewer sources of glitches and voltage transients, the better.

Kinda what I was thinking. So much info runs through the head unit I didn't really want to chance it but wasn't sure if it mattered. I don't have a way to maintain power so it'll just be running in my case. Not sure if the instructions state that for any other reason than not to run the battery down because it can take a little while to update.

I didn’t mean to do so. It was you last sentence that that it was a buzz kill instead of taking responsibility for not researching that yourself beforehand if it was important. I do realize that there is a lot to checkout before buying a car. Since you have an ultimate you may find the native Nav is just fine, especially if you have HUD. Hope you have a great time in your new Ultimate.

I did the update on my way to work this AM. no issues. took about ~30 minutes to upgrade. no music or backup cam while it upgrades though.

I like the Ultimate setup just fine... the jog wheel is much more convenient than pecking at the (relatively faraway) screen. Having directions show up in the HUD is a bonus. Our Kia has the Android 8" unit + Carplay and I find it not as easy to use as one might think...

Roger that. Guess that confirms it's ok to do. I'm not a big fan of just letting a car idle and not move. Always makes me think it's going to overheat and blow up.

LOL Bourbon, no, not likely to blow up or otherwise misbehave. Modern cars are technological triumphs and unless you have a significant issue you can let them idle until they run out of gas. Whenever a lengthy software update is done, which is common for the 'main computer', called a Powertrain Control Module (PCM), a constant voltage needs to be maintained. When the key is on and the engine is off there are so many battery drains that it is possible that voltage might drop below the critical threshold.
I reprogram PCM's as part of my business and have special chargers needed just for the purpose of maintaining a strong and steady battery over a period of sometimes several hours. The last thing I need is to have insufficient voltage (due to continuous current draw) in the middle of a software update! Never a good thing.

Yes. I've done it twice. You won't have the camera or the radio. You just drive around and suddenly the radio comes on and you know it is done. More fun that having it sit and idle.

I’m actually in the car now doing the update in the garage. Answering some texts and emails for work so the time isn’t wasted. And messing with my seat, trying to get it juuust right.

Update was without issue. Having gone from the original version to V13 is a nice change.

Yeah, you replied to someone that isn't me, but thanks. I'm enjoying it. It's a fantastic car.

I guess I just kind of expected android auto to be in a 2016 since even the lowest end mazdas and hondas from that year tend to have it. Especially considering it has the ultimate package.

The stock nav has been fine. I wasnt aware that it needed to be updated via SD until reading into it after purchasing. Not a big deal and I'm not complaining. Just was surprised. I'll see if I can get the dealer to squeeze an update in this week without having to pay.

I do hope you're not part of the welcome committee here lol.

The 9.2 jog wheel system did make a big deal about being "powered by Google" or some such nonsense like that...

I do know that the Blue Link app seems to incorporate Google Maps and you can look stuff up & send it to the Nav and it'll give you a prompt that a new POI has been sent. Accept and your destination is automatically programmed.

Pretty handy if you're away from the car and don't feel like sitting in the drive pecking at the screen....

The problem is the opposite of what you think. The higher end Ultimate has a lot of things not found in the Honda and in doing so, they used hardware not compatible with AA and CP. It was designed before CP was ever released by Apple.

The electronics design was probably locked in by 2013 for the 2015/16 MY and CP was introduced in 2014.

That makes sense. I guess us Ultimate drivers will just have to survive with what little our cars have to offer lol.

Nah, it really is nice. And I can already imagine a few kf the drawbacks of using AA. Like the map not integrating with the hud like the stock gps does.

I spoke with the dealer where I purchased my 3.8 Ultimate and let them know that my nav was never updated before I purchased the car.

They are installing it for free next week and replacing the H on the trunk with wings for free also. They're really awesome.

Someone mentioned earlier that you can update via the same SD more than once? If so, I'm happy to send it to whoever wants it after my update.
