  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

More Powerful 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Confirmed for 2012 Detroit Auto Show

Just the Facts:

Hyundai will unveil a more powerful 2012 Genesis Coupe at the Detroit auto show.
Both the 2.0T and 3.8 V6 engines will receive increased output.
The 2012 Genesis Coupe will also debut a freshened exterior.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Spy photographers caught the 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe testing near the Arctic Circle earlier this year, and now Inside Line has confirmed the refreshed Genesis Coupe will debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. It will feature an updated exterior along with increased power ratings for both of its engine offerings.

Currently, the rear-wheel-drive 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is powered by either a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine (in 2.0T models) or a 3.8-liter V6 (in 3.8 models). The four-cylinder engine generates 210 horsepower and 223 pound-feet of torque, while the V6 pumps out 306 hp and 266 lb-ft. For the 2.0T, Hyundai offers either a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic with manual shift control. For the 3.8 models, there's the manual or a six-speed automatic, also with manual shift control.

The V6 upgrade is expected to mimic the changes already announced on the 2012 Genesis sedan. The addition of direct injection and a higher compression ratio bumps output on the V6 to 333 hp and 291 lb-ft of torque. No exact power figures have been discussed regarding the 2.0T, but we expect only modest gains as Hyundai isn't likely to do anything that will adversely affect the Coupe's mileage figures. The Genesis 2.0T is capable of getting up to 30 mpg on the highway.

The Detroit auto show isn't until January. They seriously aren't even going to release a MY 2012 vehicle until the year 2012? Should just go ahead and release a short 2012 MY and have the refresh debut as a 2013 model.

I'm almost sure thats what Hyundai will be doing. Release the 2012 in late july, early August with the 2013 being out around what hope will be a Superbowl in early Feb 2012. I havn't read this any where but that would be my guess.

The Coupe still needs to be taken upscale. This one is just not selling like Hyundai thought especially at its price range (22k-34k loaded). I still see about 5 sedans for every coupe. The coupe is definately a rare breed.

This car definately needs more hp especially being a Sport Coupe. It should be around 350hp/300hp (V6/i4). and should alway have a few more ponies that the sedan. If any car company can pull this off it would be Hyundai. The G37 already has a 348hp v6. Of course G37 coupe is not exactly running off the show room floor either.

G37 Coupe is also way more expensive. The 3.8 Coupe isn't quite in the same class. I've driven both, but I bought the Genny because of the bang for the buck. Slightly slower, but hope to mod it up to be able to take the G37. Sticker for G37 S Convertible was a few $$$ short of $50K.

I think the Genny Coupe is very close to being a serious contender versus a G37 coupe. The current version doesn't match up as well, but it's considerably less expensive. I think the next gen could really take it to the next level.

The article is not exactly correct. My 2010 already has the 6 speed automatic transmission! Either that or the dash display lies when it shows the number 6 in high gear!
