In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Most Reliable Used Genesis for Around $20k?

How about a 2011 4.6 with 33,000 miles, asking price at a used car lot of $20,900, clean Carfax, looks to be in excellent shape. Good deal? I figure I can grind at least a few hundred off as well.

I have over 145k on my 2011 4.6 w/tech that I purchased Sept. 2010. The car still runs and performs like new. Regular maint. per the manual. Had center drive shaft bearing replaced under warranty at about 50k. this was a common issue in early v8s.

Here's another wrinkle. I noticed that the prices at Carmax aren't all that inflated in my area on the Genesis. Moreover, their extended warranty is roughly $1200 with a $50 deductible on a 2011 4.6 with around 46000 miles.

If anyone has followed the Jalopnik posts of a guy named Doug DeMuro and his experience with Carmax's extended warranty and his Range Rover, he makes a compelling case in favor of Carmax's warranty. He spent nearly $4000 on the warranty, but managed to rack up more than $4000 in repairs in the first two years alone!

I'm not planning on driving this car more than around 6000 miles a year, so I'd get around five years out of a 75000 mile warranty. $20 a month is a pretty cheap price to pay to drive essentially care free, even if I don't end up needing it.

While I don't think this car will need anywhere near the level of repairs that the RR needed, I read that article, and for the piece of mind, it may be worth it!

Good luck with the purchase, I am loving my new ride!

I bought a '13 CPO base 3.8 in October of this past year ('14) and have been very pleased with it so far. The car had 45000 miles on it and I paid $18,500 for it.

So far this car has been an absolute dream. It rides smooth, transmission is silky smooth, and an absolute pleasure to drive. I feel like I sort of lucked out because I didn't know much about the genesis until after I bought it, but I am glad I have the '12+ suspension, GDI engine, and bluetooth.

I've also had rigid collars installed and I can tell you without a doubt, it handles much more crisply now and feels much more stable and planted. The car takes less time to "recover" after bumps and always feels in control. It's crazy how much it changed the feel for the better without causing any extra harshness or losing any ride quality. The steering wheel feels much tighter now.

If you want the most reliable ride and the best value, I would consider a base 3.8. I did think about not having a NAV screen, but luckily there is the UNAVI after market that I can add on if I ever want NAV and backup camera.

No matter what genesis you get though, I think you'll be doing very well and will be pleased ;) I have been!

I'll tell it to you like a told a friend, every time I go to get into my car, I get excited. On Monday morning I'm more excited about getting to drive to work than I am disappointed in the weekend being over. I still take rides at 11:00 at night just because I want to ride in my car. I've put hours upon hours into polishing it, sealing, waxing, cleaning, treating leather, etc. I just love everything about it.

And yea in case you can't tell... it's my first "real" car :D

I think your 33k mile 2011 4.6 for just about 21k is a very good deal, according to my credit union my 2011 4.6 with 58k miles books at 20,800

Would love to hear some thoughts about another car I just found. 2011 4.6 with 38000 miles, asking price is $17,990. Clean Carfax, dealer serviced, haven't seen it in person, but is being sold at a Hyundai dealer, so I'm pretty sure it's in good cosmetic shape. Not going to get much better than that, right?

That looks to be a good price, just check if if it is the TECH or premium model. if it is the tech that would be a very nice deal.

As far as you other question ZF or 8SP? I own both, the ZF is geared a bit more towards comfort while 8sp is a tad more sporty.

Good luck and please post some pictures..

The dealer just threw in Certified Pre Owned coverage, and apparently it's selling for $1250 less than what he has in it. The car has been on the lot for 52 days, which is why they decided to certify it just to find someone to buy it. I'd have to talk the wife into a two hour drive to get it, so a little arm twisting may be in order. Who knows, someone else may swoop in and grab it first. It's pretty clear that the market is pretty dead on these cars at the moment, especially with the new body style now available. If not this one, I'm sure another will come along.

I think you found a really good deal. Check it close and drive it around town for 30 to 40 min. to get the feel of the car and how it rides.

For those that are familiar with both, how about the difference between the old transmission and the new 8 speed? I know MPG goes up a bit with the new one...

I've owned both, see my sig. The 8 speed shifts more smoothly. Same mpg in town: bout 19 to 21 depending on the weight of my right foot on a given week. 8 speed is better on the highway by a few mpg.

I'd take the 8 over the six if given the choice.

In fact, I have not seen any of the ECU/TCU stability control nanny issues with my 4.6 that plagued the 2012 5.0 and Rspec owners.

Narrowing my search to a 2012 4.6 for the following reasons. Let me know if I'm taking a wrong turn:

1. I'm not all that concerned about mpg, so I figured the 4.6 comes with the Tech and Premium packages without that much of a bump in price over a 3.8 equipped with both packages.

2. The 2012 has the upgraded suspension.

3. The 4.6 does not have direct injection, which may be a good thing as far as buildup in the engine?

4. The 2012 offers the 8 speed transmission even with the 4.6.

5. Not that interested in the extra power the 5.0 R-Spec would bring, or the more aggressive ride. Moreover, don't want to deal with the oil burning issues some of those cars have.

6. It has always been my thinking to buy the last model year of an engine or transmission, hoping that all of the bugs have been squashed. Here, I'm splitting the difference between the last year of the engine, but the first year of the 8 speed, although most comments suggest that the 8 speed has been pretty reliable. Plus, the new suspension will mean more to me than the extra power the 5.0 brings.

So, assuming I spring for an extended warranty, I'm hoping that this combination will offer me the best reliability and most bang for the buck. Am I on the right track?

PS - The thing that is really confounding my search is my dislike of both the black interior and exterior. I found that the 2012 black interior went TOO black, and I'm just not up to looking at a "dirty" black car all of the time, not to mention how little scratches and dings are terribly noticeable on a black car. White exterior with the saddle interior is a pretty sweet combo!

Yes I think you are on the right track. I personally think the 4.6 is a better engine than the 5.0 due to the oil usage problems with the 5.0.

I think you are :D, since I drive the sum of this setup on a regular basis, I think that you have picked the best of both worlds minus the extra kick that R-Spec would provide but with slightly more comfortable/cushy ride...

The only challenge I would anticipate is locating a nice one with the right color combo that you would like, with low miles at that price point, as they do seem a rather rare breed.

Good luck...

I have over 145k on my 2011 4.6 w/tech that I purchased Sept. 2010. The car still runs and performs like new. Regular maint. per the manual. Had center drive shaft bearing replaced under warranty at about 50k. this was a common issue in early v8s.

Home, what were the symptoms of the drive shaft bearing? I think I may have this now. When I take off from a stand still and push throttle about halfway, there is a vibration in the floor board/below that is also slight audible? Almost feels like a shudder. Was this it? I also have a slight vibration when the engine hits 2,000 to 2,200 under moderate acceleration that feels drivetrain related.

I am loving this car and I plan to get it to 150K mi or more. Every vehicle I have lasts 200K
