  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Music For The Lexicon!

Dan, I just went to Besbuy's website and found the CD for $14.99, but the Digipak with CD and DVD is $19.99. I don't think I want the CD, but the DVD-A, right?

Ron:confused:

Ron,
I'm pretty sure you already got the DVD combo, but yeah, like BtHbC said, it's the DVD/CD combo that you should get.

Dan

Check out Winds of Change by Hiroshima...incredible

Is this in DVD-A format?
All I find in Amazon is CD only. Album "Legacy", correct?

Dan

Legacy is correct Dan. You can hear a sample on Amazon's website

They fall under Smooth Jazz

I just listened to "My obsession" from Killswitch Engage and holy Mosas, this sounds great on the Sexicon. Amazing, especially impressed since I haven't heard this type of clarity in other car audio systems. My Kicker sub sure assists in sound quality on this one. Too much fun:D

I'm not Dan, but yes you want the combo of CD and DVD-A. The Dvd-A lives in my car, the CD in my wife's.
And I agree with a bias to the rears. 3 or 4 "clicks" should be perfect.
Enjoy!

Okay, now I'm confused [and frustrated]. I found out that I was playing the CD of the LOVE [beatles] album. I put the Audio DVD in and got the MEDIA ERROR message. Then I put in a Diana Krall album which I bought because it was DVD-A and got the same message. Any ideas? I know the Beatles album is a hit here on this forum in the Lexicon system.

Does the premium headunit play DVD formats?

Does the premium headunit play DVD formats?

Dan

Evidently not. It plays MP3 format and standard Audio CD. But there is no logo for DVD by the disc intake. I guess I don't know enough about these units but there must be quite a bit of variation in the Lexicon head units that are offered in the Genesis. In my setup mode, I have Sound Surround ON/OFF. I was under the impression that sound surround was a DVD format audio feature. What can you tell me about Sound Surround?

Oh, okay. Wasn't sure if the 14-speaker Lexicon played DVD or not.
It should be the function that the amp processes the regular stereo to simulate a surround sound.

Do I have the 14 or the 17 speaker Lexicon? Strange I should be asking you, Dan. I'm not sure how to figure that one out. Maybe I should go to the Hyundai site.

Mine is the 2009 Premium Plus. I seem to recall the window sticker listed 17 speaker version on the Premium Plus list.

Thanks, Dan,

Ron:cool:

Update: I just found my window sticker with the info that I have the 14 spkr Lexicon system. Evidently it does not have the proprietary Logic 7 processing technology.

Now, I found that thread I was looking for on the forum and got this from Mark_888:
The 17 speaker system is a discreet 7.1 surround sound system designed to handle native 5.1+ signals from a DVD or DVD-A. This is similar to what you would find in a home theater receiver.

The 14 speaker system is simulated 5.1 surround sound from stereo CD/MP3/iPod, etc sources (since it does not handle DVD sources).

Obviously, the 17 speaker system can also produce surround sound from stereo sources like the 14 speaker system.

Yeah.. only the tech packages come with the 17-speaker system.
It's only missing 3 tweeters(2rear, 1 center channel), I believe.
Power rating of the amp is the same, and I assumed it didn't differ much from the tech package Lexicon system.

Dan

I didn't realize the Genesis 17-speaker system could play DVD-A's until stumbling across this thread. I do find it a little surprising that cars are still coming out with DVD-A support since it's pretty much a dead format, with SACD and Blu-Ray being the more future-proof formats.

One tip for those discs where you're not completely sure which "Group" you should play to get the 5.1 MLP track. Download the program "DVD-Audio Explorer" and examine this disc by opening the "ATS_01_0.IFO" file in the "AUDIO_TS" folder. This will give you a detailed listing of each title's contents (same thing that the Lexicon calls groups). In my experience, for most DVD-A's that have a 5.1 MLP title it will be the first one.

I haven't really listened to any DVD-A's in the car yet, but I do have a few classical discs that I bought a while back for the home theater system. I don't know if these are still available, since I about them a few years ago in some cases and a lot of DVD-A's are out of print now.

-The Carlos Kleiber recording of Beethoven Symphonies 5&7 is just fabulous, any fan of classical should get this disc in some format (it's available in pretty much every format you can think of). The DVD-A has 24/96 5.1 and 2.0 mixes.

- Another one I like is Mahler Symphony No 2 on Teldec with Zubin Mehta.

- The Tschaikovsky 1812 disc on Telarc is available as DVD-A, and is a high-quality all digital recording.

- For chamber music, Brahms Piano Quintet in F-Minor on AIX Records is another good one. The 5.1 mix on this disc is a "stage" mix, making more agressive use of the surrounds rather than just for ambience.

I am looking a buying a Genesis in the next month. One question I have about DVD's is whether you can listen to DVD concerts in 5.1 but not see them since the system will not play DVD's when the car is moving. My question is will it plan the sound while not showing any video. I have a lot of concerts in 5.1

Thanks

Yes it does for sure..:)

As long as this thread is up...

There've been a couple new DVD-A releases recently. Here's a brief description of music that may not be your cup of tea, but sounds absolutely beautiful in the Genny (with Tech):

Anathema: We're Here Because We're Here...
This is a group I'd never heard of until this release. Apparently they were originally a metal rock group that's evolved to a Pink Floyd/Moody Blues type of music. Mixed by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), this is a beautiful album with great instrumentation and vocals. The multichannel aspect is quite aggressive and well done. More info/ordering here:

Dorothee Munyaneza
This is officially "world music", most likely described as "Afro-Pop" to be lazy about it. It's really much more than that: elements of smooth jazz, Lion King, dance (but not disco), all with fantastic musicianship and vocals by Dorothee.
The surround aspect is quite impressive, as it's "integrated" so to speak. It isn't "shown off" as much as just there. Very nicely done! More info/ordering here:

Btw, each translates to about $20/US, and both stores are trustworthy with great customer service if needed.

3 clicks to the rears!
