  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Read the 4th bulleted item below in the center column. Strange requirement. Must be some alignment concerns.

Thats bull. My driveway is steep probably 20 degrees if not more and i use my trunk there obviously

Many years ago Fiat sold a car called the Gordini (spell?). It came equipped with a pre cut wood 2x4 that was to be placed in the door jamb on the side of the car that was being jacked up to prevent the car from bending in the middle. Needless to say we've come a long way. There is little worry that jacking any side of a new Genesis sedan is going to bend anything but if you inspect how well fitted the trunks of these cars are Hyundai might have had an alignment concern on cars fitted with the power trunk. The hood is not power operated so the concern is not mentioned for up front. I wonder what the actual answer is?

I call BS. Ok, so here is the challenge. The next time you do an oil change at the dealer, see if the trunk has been opened. I bet you $100 they do not.

Only thing I can see is sometimes in the smaller garages, the roof of the car gets pretty darn close to the ceiling. If the trunk were to open when up in the air, you could scratch up the trunk so Hyundai has basically got their butts covered by printing this.

I suspect the trunk fit is so tight that a little torsion from jacking up one of the rear sides might introduce just enough twist to put a bind in the trunk latch preventing release.

Ok, I am confused. So this means if you are unfortunate enough to have a flat in a heavy rain, and need to change out the tire or have a tow truck operator do it, it needs to be open?

I think common sense is to get what you need out of the trunk BEFORE it is jacked up and precarious - regardless of power trunk or not. The same reason to loosen and then fully tighten lugs nut before and after raising the car.

When I installed the winter tires a few weeks ago, the trunk was closed during the entire 30-45 minute process. The car got jacked up by the provided jack on all four sides for the process and I have had no issues opening or closing the trunk since then.

If you read the first sentence of the bullet point literally, confusion ensues. :)

This.

If you try and open the trunk after car is jacked up, the chances of the car falling off the jack are greatly increased. The jacks included with the car have very poor stability (tiny base plate), as I found out the hard way when trying to change a flat on road that was not level.

The issue is that if you jack up one corner of the car, the car is not balanced evenly on all 4 corners. If this is extreme, I suppose it could create a problem operating the power trunk while the car is jacked up. I think Hyundai wants you to get what you need out of the trunk prior to jacking up the car and do not operate the power trunk while the car is on the jack.
