  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It could be that he stated his military record as evidence that he is a person who knows how to survive and live by staying in control of his emotions and accurately assessing a situation.

I can understand his frustration with anonymous bullies who will type things they would never say to a man in person.

I find people attacking him to be lacking in self awareness (each of you trotted out your military record to prove your better than him) and maybe hypocritical.

None of you raced at his age? You bought cars with over 330 hp so you can drive like matrons? What do you expect the manufacturers expect people to do with massive hp cars? What do you expect the type of person who buys a car like that to do?

Probably go fast.

I would say NO because of the manner in which he stated it. Actually he showed just the oppisite..

For some, yes this could be true.

I don't think anyone did that, more that they were showing just the oppsite. We don't toute our military carrer to justify something.

I know I did and still do, for the last 35+ years. I even covered that somewhat in my post. But if/when I do, I don't come on here and tout that I'm a military veteran and it justifies it.

Probably go fast.

He may be a person who knows how to stay alive, but that doesn't mean shit in a street race, where you have absolutely ZERO control over who may be coming out a side street or in your direction.

All of us other vets do not run about bragging about it. Typically the more you brag about it, the less you've done. I am a proud man, and I will say what ever is on my mind to anyone standing next to me.. I fear none, but respect all.

If the Gen's manual mode is anything like that of my Sonata's, manual is manual; it'll run right up to the electronic limit in any given gear.

Unfortunatly, that is not correct. When in manual mode, if you don't shift by the time the "nanny" thinks you should, it will shift for you. It never reaches the rev limiter.

I know that in other cars, like my Pontiac G8, if you had it in manual mode, you could bounce it off the rev limiter and it would not shift.

hell if you have it in manual mode and GUN it... it'll drop a cog or two. Hyundai really needs to reduce the nannies.

HelI don't know. The older I get the less I know with certitude. That's why young people go off to war. Truth be told send an old geezer like me and I'd be trying to talk everyone into having a glass of wine and taking a nap. ;) :grouphug:

Naw, send a bunch of old gezzers like us and the war would be over in a few days and we'd all be drinking cold beer and wine waiting for a ride home, or a good home to stay in. ;)

Why do you think they never recall us old guys? :)

lets just say somebody was driving 145mph or so on a motorcycle and that somebody rode over a bump in the road while in a turn and the front tire came up a few inches at that speed.... that somebody did learn and sold the motorcycle shortly there after.

but to answer your question... yes i'd agree with you. it's not until something happens that puts things in perspective the person chills out.

Really? Please go back to MY post and point out when I bragged about being better than the OP. Please. Then go back to my subsequent horse beating post and show me where I was being hypocritical. Cmon man.

So once again even when you "take control" of the machine it still turns your request into a pretty please request...Disappointing.... thanks for info Sir!

:-) truth be told that was one of the moments, the other was when i found out my son was my brother

ACTUALLY... being an American citizen gives us the freedom to street race... it also gives us the freedom to be ticketed and have the license revoked. This argument has gone round and round on other forums. I respect you guys (on both sides of the fence).

I don't think that freedom is the right word - embodied in its definition is the notion of a lack of restraint on one's activities. Here in the U.S., as in most countries, there is a recognition that government has an obligation to place some limits on people, ostensibly for the common good. What thankfully distinguishes us from some other societies is the scope of those restrictions. In this instance, the activity is clearly not permitted by law, so it's not unrestricted.

Where the discussion gets really interesting is when laws regulate actions such as wearing motorcycle helmets, where it can be argued that not following the law usually poses no direct danger to others. In other words, should societies protect people from themselves? But that's a whole other topic...

I hear you in fm. But lets take the helmet law and ride without helmet.. no harm no foul. Lets say you ride a motorcycle or car on a road without other cars or people. No difference just more destruction... this thread should be locked... and other threads inof topic spawned. Something about beating a dead horse

Apparently this forum has a filter that blocks out the word A hole. I didnt put too much stock into that detail.

I didn't know that until you pointed it out. For the heck of it, I just entered George Carlin's "seven words you can't say on television" into a post and previewed it. Two whole words and part of another were blocked. I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to determine which ones. :)

Interesting read…I am not sure where you guys got me using my “VET” status as a reason to race. SmoovC stated he hope I never find myself in a situation where my actions result in injury (or worse) and that maybe I will re-think what is safe and acceptable behavior.
I don’t know where you guys live but it sounds like you guys have roads with turn on for traffic with the speed limit 70? I seriously doubt it! And by the sounds of it I guess all of you go the speed limit and below huh…never pass anybody or pull out infront of someone…let’s get real here, you guys can act all high and mighty all you want! As you see me and the M3 cut off around 100…
But everybody is entitled to their opinion, I won’t loose no sleep over it, cheers!

You obviously have little to no regards for the life of your fellow man, but you sure do prove just how ignorant one can be!!
