  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi All,

2011 V8....

Found using freeway mode really annoying because the right side display of exits, services at each exit, etc, gave me no idea WHICH exit, if any, I need to take. Basically, I'd like to see when my next turn is, even if it is 50 miles away...

So, I finally dug through my manual, and I see EXACTLY what I need shown on the screenshots. The manual calls it "Direction to turn to continue following the route (only visible if route guidance is active)". It is a little arrow icon in the lower left corner of the display, showing the direction of the next turn, and the distance.

Trouble is, I have NEVER seen that icon. As far as I can tell in the manual, it should come on anytime I enable freeway mode, but it doesn't. Has ANYONE seen it? I've got the (as far as I know) latest maps update (4/2010), and have XM Traffic enabled if that matters.

If anyone has a DIS manual for the 2011, I'm looking on page 250. #1 on the screenshot is missing... I'm hoping there is some setting I'm missing?

There are settings. I have mine set at split screen and tone when time to exit. Its been months since I set it up but its in the settings of the nav and map screens.

Yeah, I have split screen, freeway mode works great, it is just that one piece of information that is missing.

This is from the manual. My display looks just like this in freeway mode, minus the "next turn" icon, #1.

give a, give a, give a, give a Garmin. All other GPS units are bad jokes.

You're saying that you DON'T see the icon labeled #1 in the lower left corner? I always see that when I'm in active nav mode, regardless of distance (it even counts down the distance for intervals >50 miles).

Mark -- you don't have an HMA nav system in your car, do you? I'm surprised you'd have an opinion about an option you lack. Perhaps you have Garmin stock?

No, I never see it (and have NEVER seen it). I was thinking it was a really big design omission until I looked in the manual and saw it. In freeway mode, I have no idea when my next turn is coming up until the nice voice (which I've named "Lola") tells me to exit in 2 miles... I see no setting related to it, so I'm not sure what to do. Seems like one of those things that the dealer would be clueless about as well.

I just checked and I don't have in my 2012 V6 with Tech. It would be nice to have for exactly the reasons dlambermont pointed out. My display is set to both turn by turn directions and Freeway mode by default. I turned off th efreeway mode oday and like it much better. The graphics on freeway mode are small to read anyway.

I haven't checked to see if he car will remember my map preferences after I stop and restart the engine. I hope my preferences are remembered.

To find these map settings first push the map button on near the console. Then push the large DIS knob down and map settings will appear. They're fairly hidden. There you can check or uncheck either turn by turn and freeway mode.

Just an update on this - I had my car in for an oil change last week, and I asked them to look into the missing turn icon issue. They spent a bunch of time on the phone with the nav software people, and basically got no info at all. They told the service guy that the owner's manual was generic and I may not see everything it discusses. Great, what is the purpose of the manual then?

Anyway, so far I had one person reply that they see the turn icon, and one person say they don't. I'm wondering if it is tied to the map version? Mine has the April 2010 maps (version 3). Anyone else notice whether the turn icon shows up in the lower left corner of the map screen?

I drive 2010 3.8 with tech and yes... I have the turn icon on lower left screen.

Np. I'm at work right now so I'll check the map version when I get back tonight. How do you check for map version?

I believe you just push the Nav button, then "Settings" and then "Nav Info". My map version looks like this:

03.00.00 2010.04.30.10

I did actually get a price for upgrading my maps to the 2011 version, but I'd like to find out if this issue is version specific, and if it is, is if fixed in the 2011 maps. Price to upgrade was $159 for the maps, and about $50 labor. Supposed to be a 4 hour job.

OK I just checked and this is what I got...

03.00.00 2009.08.25.14

I was just wondering... have you tried "factory reset" option for your navi?

Sorry to jump in.
After reading the two last posts, I checked mine and I have 03:00:00 2011
I bought my Genesis January 27 2012. I am in Canada.
I am looking forward for an update because what I got is really outdated.
For instance Highway 30 which they completed two years ago is not showing on 03:00:00 2011.
I have also checked on MapnSoft and there is nothing for Genesis Sedan 2012 yet.

I just bought a 2012 Non R-Spec and have noticed the same problem, part of the display is missing. Has anyone had any luck resloving this issue?

Same icon is missing in my 2012 R Spec. I believe my map version is 5/2011. I do know that no update is currently available for it.

Thoughts?
