Navigation Map and Software Update Discussion Thread

Not sure if it’s been posted yet or not, but this latest update also brought the ability to map Phone Projection to a custom button to quickly toggle in and out of CarPlay or AA! I found this out because the update reset my previous custom button settings and went in to change them back and found the new options.

Someone mentioned that here a few days ago, and I switched one of my buttons to that. Actually, I didn't even use the custom buttons before. Now I have one for CarPlay (Phone Projections), and another set to the EV panel. I wish I could make it go straight to the EV Info panel. Anyway, now I'm using the two custom buttons on my steering wheel, very handy. Any suggestions for the third button, way over to the right?

Man, it is so frustrating to have to wait for the OTA update with absolutely no sense of when it will come. I called the Genesis "Navigation Solution Center" today and was told that they release OTA updates in batches. The woman I spoke to said she believed the latest OTA had been paused for some reason (?) and she had no sense of when it might be unpaused, but then contradicted herself by suggesting it would probably arrive by the end of the month. She suggested I call MapInSoft, who handles the software for manual downloads of updates. Spoke with someone there who said he didn't have a release date for the manual update.

What a ridiculous way to roll out an update, particularly one as consequential as this one. Once you've got the code, why wouldn't you release both a manually downloadable version and an OTA version at the same time? That way customers who want the update immediately wouldn't have to wait, and those who didn't know/care could wait for the OTA version to arrive? Also, if you had your car in for service, your dealer could apply the update -- further cementing good feelings about the whole customer experience.

Just venting, I suppose.

Just think of this as you, me, and a bunch of others are standing in solidarity with our Canadian brothers and sisters in waiting for the update.

Fwiw - this practice of progressive rollouts is the norm in modern software. It ensures that the blast radius is limited of something really bad happens due to an update + user behavior that they hadn't thoroughly tested.

We normally don't care because the updates tend to be more incremental but this one is highly anticipated. Sure, it sucks that we're waiting for this update (like our neighbors to the north) but you know that if even one person's car gets bricked by the update, it'll be posted up here and cast a lot of doubt on the ota practices of Genesis. People have already been posting complaints about glitchy behavior and I'm sure this is being vetted to gauge whether it's a "must fix in the 9/11 update before rolling out further" or a "punt to the next release" bug.

That said, you should still be enjoying the hell out of this car. Search for snow mode on these forums to get a sense for some of the really cool stuff you can already do with it. In January, nobody's going to be crowing over the wireless Apple/Android integration anymore.

Be patient, my friend! It looks like it'll be worth it!

Fwiw - this practice of progressive rollouts is the norm in modern software. It ensures that the blast radius is limited of something really bad happens due to an update + user behavior that they hadn't thoroughly tested.

Some of you may remember that about a year ago Rivian had an update that bricked vehicles in a way that at first they thought would require a trip to the service center. They didn't do a progressive rollout so it was not a good situation. Fortunately in a couple of days they figured out a way to recover OTA, but there was quite a bit of disruption for about a thousand Rivian owners.

wireless carplay is the only meaningful change that has landed since i took possession lol. the frustration is from the same model getting it in other markets, not any sort of staggered release. in canada, it is quite literally JUST GV60 that has the update held back. the lack of Siri Eyes-Free has made bluetooth basically useless, so its a constant bug in my eye every time i drive right now because my chinese wireless dongle is broken haha

2023 GV60 automatically updated. Works great! Now android auto is integrated with on board nav. Heads up display and dash directions all using android auto. Fantastic.

When connecting wirelessly I experience a huge delay (lag) in voice commands. Almost 10 seconds. Anyone else?

Staged rollouts are far from ridiculous and are pretty much standard practice.
“A Staged Rollout gives you time to analyze your product stability and its performance against business goals. You can then decide if you want to roll out the update to more users, wait for more data, or stop the Rollout. You can test if your update is going to be a success and you can also reveal major errors. A Staged Rollout is one of the relatively pain-free ways to make continuous delivery. Examples of the major companies that do the Staged Rollouts regularly are Netflix and Uber.”

A staged Rollout enables you to release the upcoming product version slowly in a gradual way. You can slowly increase the percentage of users who receive the update.

That would be very nice. I'm not holding my breath though. Especially on i-Pedal, I think if they did that they would have to post reduced range numbers, which I'm sure they don't want to do. But a boy can dream.

Maybe I’m in a minority, but I use Auto Regen and really happy with it. And it stays on Auto after every startup.

I finally got the update today! Sorry if I’m late to this convo but once it started downloading it did its thing even after I parked my car. I got back to the car in about 5 hrs and when I started it prompted to install and took about 2 mins. But I’m having problems connecting wirelessly even after I deleted my phone connection and reconnected via Bluetooth as recommended by some here. I’m hoping it miraculously connects wirelessly next time I get in lol.

I drive almost exclusively in sport mode and my complaint was that the car was too floaty through the turns (hence I am about to change tires to Pilot
Sport 4S). I got the update so I will try to see during the next week or two (after that I will have the new tires) how it feels and then how it feels with performance tires.

As an aside, it is interesting to me that there is no "comfort" mode to select although it does appear when one is selecting modes. I gather that the programmable mode is in its default position the comfort mode.

I do find the sport setting to be a bit floaty myself but seems the car was designed as such. I normally drive in my custom setting of “comfort” engine and “sport” suspension. Not sure if anyone has felt this, but I my suspension kinda bottoms out at an abrupt dip in the road on my commute that I’m always hitting (yes my fault for not avoiding it every time!). My other car absorbs the same spot much better, so I’m wondering if it’s just purely due to our somewhat softly sprung GV60?

We have a lot of those intersections here in Scottsdale and that is where I often feel like the Primacy tires are letting go on the turn unless I have made sure to have slowed down first so that I am driving through the turn (always the preferred method anyway).

It very well could be the placebo effect but the suspension does seem a bit tighter since the update. But my new Pilot 4S tires are on order and are being shipped to Arizona from South Carolina for installation later this week so I won't have enough time with the update before getting the new grippier tires to determine if it is a real improvement or something I just wanted to sense.

i havent been able to get wireless carplay to work. Its on the menu, greyed out. Doesn't connect my iphone, either. Connect wire and it works.

anyone else in the US not yet get the OTA update?

I tried leaving the car on for 45 minutes, then driving another 15, to no avail. I'm in the southeastern US, no idea if geography has anything to do with it.

I don't own a 64 gig thumb drive, and really don't want to buy one if the update will come OTA, but I'll get myself to amazon if things don't come to fruition soonish. just wondering if there's something I can do to speed things along OTA?

interesting question! I don't know...I'd gotten it for free in a grab bag, and it never worked flawlessly so I didn't bother trying once the update went through. that said, I'll try to remember to check one day this week.

it probably doesn’t.
I used an AA dongle. After the OTA, my phone connected wirelessly without me doing anything. This might be the case for CarPlay too.
Per Genesis, once you connect wirelessly you can’t connect the same phone via USB. The dongle emulates the phone’s USB connection, so the dongle won’t work anymore with the same phone connected wirelessly to the car.

Installed yesterday. I am LOVING this update! I love having it connect wirelessly and then display in the IP and Center screen and HUD. I am really enjoying this so far this morning!

I use auto regen 3 because it is the same amount of regen at all times and I prefer predictability. If on a long stretch of highway where regen is not needed, I sometimes switch off auto and go to level 2 or 1 for predictable regen levels.

I use auto regen at the lowest setting (annoying that it will hold second lowest but not lowest so I have to reset it each time if I remember). It gives me the benefit of some regen, including slowing down as I approach stopped cars, but lets me drive the way I have always driven (as a senior senior familiarity doesn't breed contempt, it breeds success).

So my AA shows in the IP in a dark mode but is in the light mode on the center display. My phone and gv60 are in auto mode so not sure to get the IP view of AA to be in day mode. Thoughts?
