If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looking to update the NAV version on my '09 Genny.

What are my options, and how much is an update?

Do I have to go to the dealer? :)

Do you have the Tech package or not?

In 2009 model year, NAV was only available with Tech Package.

Ok, then yes, you have to go to the dealer, and the cost is about $300 unless you purchased yours late 2008 or very early 2009.

Finally got an answer. Talked to several dealers, and there was nothing but total confusion as to the costs, labor, and who you had to contact, etc. Several dealers just sent me on a goose chase. They were confused between themselves.

(I do have the Tech pkg.)

But here is the 23 page TSB # 11-BE-008 (March 11, 2011).

$ 30 - 4 reprogramming dics - #96560-3M500-HH
$145 - 3 hrs install labor (I think its about 1.5 hrs. actual labor)
$175 total

Don't forget those pesky shop fees, hazardous disposal fee, and taxes.

During a recent oil change the service clerk told me that there was a warrantee service due for my 2009 Genesis. She said, “It’s a long service so you’ll need to leave it with us.” She confirmed that the service was to update the maps and I was pumped.

Long story short, they worked ALL DAY on this thing and charged me $0.00!

Your purchase date must be from September 01, 2008 to February 28, 2009 for the free service.

Take a look at the Hyundai Tech Bulletin for details

You have got me very interested! I have checked with my dealer and am getting a major run around. I think he is just lazy. Is telling me that the update does not work/apply to my 2009 4.6 Tech. Is pointing me to mapnsoft.com where it clearly states Dealer Only. Grrr, I may have to check another dealer or something. Very frustrating.

On the update you got, can you share when that was and if there was any noticeable feature changes or just an update to the maps?

Thanks,

Mark

Before I upgraded, the maps were old and the nav did buggy things (routed you off of a highway and right back onto it). After the upgrade I have had no issues at all. Your dealer is mistaken, take it to another one. Note, this upgrade seems to be extraordinarily difficult for dealers for some reason, and many have had problems getting their dealer to do it properly. Mine took all day, but they did it successfully.

We will see what they say today. My current dealer gives me a loaner, I hope the other one does as well...

There appears to be two updates our there now. There is the one that I believe you got which is the one they call the Select Car Care Program that is called the 2010 SCCP=8/10. This program calls for the 96560-3M500-HH disks. Then in March of 2011 they came out with TSB 11-BE-008. This TSB has the same part number as the SCCP update but I expect when they get the disk they may be a newer version.

I am certainly glad it is not as buggy as the original version. :) Did the update add the ability for the DIS to download your cell phone phonebook entries via Bluetooth?

Thanks

Mark

It took me months to get the 2010 update for my 2010 Genesis 4.6 and it was only after I had MapNSoft send me an email that I took to the dealer that I was able to get it. The calls that I made to the dealer,Hyundai and MapNSoft were unbelievable. I just hate to think of what getting the 2011 update will be like. According to my dealer they are suppose to notify you when the update becomes available but I am not holding my breath. The only good thing was that I did not have to pay for the 2010 update, I guess they figured I had suffered enough.

Update:

My dealer informed me that they had over 8 hrs. of the Technician's time to do the upgrade of my NAV system (with Tech pkg.). They ran into all sorts of problems or issues.

To their credit - Jenkins Hyundai decided not to charge me for the upgrade, given the amount of time it took. :D

Good service!

I left my car at the dealership today to get this update. They just called me to tell me that my car would not accept the update (something about them having to get a verification code, but my vehicle not being one on the list). Anyway, now they are telling me that they would have to order a new dvd ($300) and then charge me labor (around $150).

From reading the posts here, this sounds like I am getting hosed. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed with this?

Thanks...

tgaines, you're absolutely getting hosed and you shouldn't stand for it! If the dealer took in your car and started the upgrade process prior to verifying that your VIN# was on the list is on them!

Tell them to return the system to the way it was when you dropped it off, or do the upgrade for free...or split the cost. They've got to give you something, it was their fault that the process was not completed.

You acted in good faith, now they've got to make it right...

I asked them to return the system to the original state. They did and did not charge me anything; however, as I was driving home, I switched on the Nav system to check it out. Well, now the Nav system doesn't even work. I am taking it back in tomorrow morning to see what they are going to do about it.

Update: Well, the dealership ended up getting a verification code through the warranty, since they messed up my Nav system. I got the latest version. They still charged me for labor ($144); however, I'm just happy that I finally got this resolved.

Good for you, I've read several other posts indicating paying for labor is common.
Glad it worked out...

Just got the navigation map update on my 09 earlier today. Took it in yesterday afternoon, and apparently the update failed halfway through. They asked me to leave it overnight, and they would retry first thing this morning. Luckily, early this afternoon (about 4 hrs into their workday), they completed the update on the second try. The map date seems correct (4/30/2010) but so far I can't tell what's improved. Hopefully someone here can tell me what improvements I can look forward to.

Sorry to hear about this issue tgaines14. If I were you I would name the dealer and specific location on this thread as many dealers & Hyundai execs actually DO read these forums...And then like what was stated earlier go to another dealer after calling the service manager 1st to make sure he knows his left hand from his right.

On another note I am curious if it is a DVD nav system. My Toyta Prius 2006 cost 200.00 for the update. And I installed it easily myself. It came on a new DVD disc. The DVD nav receptacle unit is under my drivers seat, seperate from the front CD / radio / nav unit.

From the back end you simple take off the cover hit the eject button then pop the new one in, replace cover and that's it. Took me under 6 minutes.

It took my dealer 4 days to update my maps. Come to find out during the update that my vehicle never qualified for the update. I think they had to flash the whole map system and start over. There was no cost to me just the loss of the vehicle for 4 days.
