need tires soon!

Just came from dealer for regular oil change and tire rotation. I have had the tires rotated 3 times. Today they said the tires are wearing and will need replacing in 3-5K miles. I have 15,675 miles since 11/08. The wear is even and the tread looks ok but if I have to change tires soon, any suggestion as to what tire or get the same. Also any prices. Thanks.

I have seen where some people have gotten in the 30K range. I do not brake hard and I do about 50% highway at 65 plus mph.

You can go 1 of 3 ways. Stay with high performance all seasons, go to all season touring (softer) or summer performance (stiffer). I'll skip the summer performance as it will make the car stiffer than it already is, which for most people is enough.
High Performance all Seasons OEM specs (from least to most expensive)-
1.PZero Nero All Season Standard on new Mercedes E class
2.Continental ExtremeContact DWS These are supposedly great in the snow, relatively speaking
3.Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus Michelin's have a cult following, the prices reflect this. Also, if you are a Costco member, $70 bucks off a set of 4.

All Season Touring
1.Continental ContiProContact Very good value for money.
2.Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum Again good value here.
3. Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdge There is a $40 rebate on a set of four for these.

Sounds like you have a alignment problem. However, I have found that tire rotation does more harm than good on many newer cars, and on RWD cars all the tires typically will wear out at the same rate (unlike FWD where the fronts wear much more than the rears). I have no plans to rotate my tires, and they look almost new after 10K miles.

My favorite brand of tire is Yokohama. Check with your local Discount Tire store (or visit their website) for more information and other options (even if you decide to shop elsewhere).

I went with 245/45/18s. Although most Gens. were sold with 235/50/18's, mine came with the 45/45's so thats what I put back on it.

I have nitrogen in my tires as well. Waste of money in my opinion. Unless you are always at the track daily, it's not worth it. Remember the air you're breathing is 80% nitrogen

Do you really need the dealer to tell you that you may need new tires soon?
I take a close look at mine whenever I happen to park with the front tires at an angle. Very easy to see, and very easy to see the wear bars.

At the rate mine are wearing, I will probably get 30,000 out of them. With 20,000 on them right now, (rotated only twice), I still have a long way before the wear bars show. (I don't horse the car around, so I want tires that will last at least 50 or 60k)

Ditto Ditto! (Although the air we breath is "only" 78% nitrogen, 21 % oxygen and 1% everything else).

My Orlando Hyundai dealer fills all the cars they sell FREE, plus if my tires get low, I can go back there and have them refilled FREE, plus whenever I go there for oil change or service, they check and fill them FREE.

No way would I pay for nitrogen fills.

Wow, I may have to check that tire out. The General Tires that came on my 83 Buick LeSabre lasted me over 80,000 miles (five tire rotation), so if the ContiProContact will last at least 50,000 miles, I'd be happy.

Obviously the tires last long, but with this long of life it sounds as if the compounds used in these tires are hard, and are anti-performance. Something that belongs on a Buick, but on a Genesis

If you are going to turn the car in, sometimes they force you to put good rubber on it before you turn it in.

I've talked with a lot of guys who swear they will never lease again, because of how the leasing companies nit-pick every little thing, plus tires. I've been told that although the lease contract allows "Normal wear and tear", when it comes time to turn it in, the leasing company wants it perfect.

Amazing!

I left for work at 4:30 this morning to 2 inches of snow and a sheet of ice. DISCLAIMER: To us REDNECKS down here in the south...we dont have a clue as to what we are doing! HA!

HOWEVER, if you have amazing tires...you can do almost anything but harnessing nearly 400 HP is difficult at times...even with the ESC System.

My drive was practically flawless...just a few slips...due to the high HP and driver error.

These DWS tires are perfectly made for areas like this. They have just enough cuts in them to be somewhat of a winter tire...but not enough to be classified as such. The only time I lost traction was because of my own driver error. Like I said..."we aint used to this!"

After about a 45 min. drive, I arrived at the gate here at work. I got over the big frame scraping speed bump, gave it gas and did a 180...RIGHT AT THE GATE! HOLY CRAP! I didnt think it was ice so I got on it a little bit. It looked dry but I guess, stupid me, didnt make the right decision.

Ill be honest, it was fun though! HA!

Anywho, GREAT tires and they balance extremely well! Let me get about 10K on them and Ill do a full review. Im sure if any tread separation or balancing issues were to happen it would have done it by then.

I recently bought the Bridgestone Turanza high performance tires and I couldn't be happier. They are quieter than the Dunlaps I replaced. Not cheap just over a thousand including an alignment. So far very very satisfied!!

Having leased a VW, 2 Hondas, and a BMW, I've never encountered anything of the sort before. I hear these horror stories every once in a while though which is scary. Most consumers know NOTHING about tires. As long as they are the correct size and speed rating, and have an acceptable amount of tread depth, I don't see why they'd care. I've never even had them check my tires. Usually they just go over the car, start it up, check the miles and hand me the keys back with a form saying I'm good to go. Maybe they nitpick more on people who don't take good care of their cars??? My end of lease inspectors usually comment on how my car still looks brand new.
