  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi folks,

I just picked up my new 2013 3.8 Premium. So far, I LOVE this car. It's a huge upgrade from my 2007 Elantra base model SE :) My colleagues, customers, and family have all be really impressed with it too.

One thing I have noticed, however, is that when I floor the gas pedal it kind of sticks on the way down (thankfully not on the way up, at least not yet!). As you get to about 80% of the way to the floor it's kind of like it hits a notch or sticky stopping point before going all the way down. If you stomp the pedal hard it goes all the way down from any position, no problem, but if you gradually increase the pressure of your foot you definitely hit this stopping point, requiring a little more push to get past it to the floor.

So my questions: Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a "feature" that I haven't read about in the manual yet, or is something wrong? Has anyone fixed this themselves (I'm tempted to WD-40 it, but I likely won't try that unless folks swear by it)? Has anyone had to take it to the dealer for a fix?

Thanks!!

There are different terms for it, but usually it's called a "kickdown switch". It's there to tell the ECM/TCM that you want max power and the lowest available gear NOW. It's normal.

Ah, so it IS a feature! Good to know. Thank you!

Yes, and the cool feature I recently learned is that this "switch" works while in Shiftronic mode.

If your car has less than 500 miles, probably not a good idea to exceed 4000 RPM, in accordance with break-in instructions in our owner's manual. However, don't baby it either (not likely in your case).

Ha ha, no... as you can tell I haven't been babying it. I think I'm up to close to 500 total now, counting dealer transfer and my driving.

Let's hope that break in period / 4000 RPM thing is just a suggestion :)
