  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New Genesis R-429 hp

I also inquired about the R Spec being at the NY Auto Show - that is indeed good news, though for some reason, I have a feeling it will be a locked car - hope I am wrong, as I would love to get inside and get a feel for the new "wood trim". Honestly, not much else seems to have changed inside - just the rear heated seats. Very disappointed with the fact that it still doesn't have a cooled front passenger seat - then again, 99% of the time, it is just me in my car anyway.

Release date can't get here fast enough, though I wonder... will the R spec be priced at MSRP at launch? Wonder how much wiggle room there will be upon its release. I really don't think I can pay MSRP - for any car.

I will not pay MSRP. I am counting on same percentage discount as has been applied to the 2011 4.6 Sedan. If at launch there is no wiggle room, I will wait a few months to purchase.

Thank you, tompass. Am I reading the article correctly in that South Korea does not get the V8 whether it be the 4.6 or 5.0?

Seems the V8 not available in the 2012 but the V6 is the GDI and has the new 8 speed. Maybe the 5.0 will only be for US market. At least there is some movement on release of the '12's.

Wrong! Read N.American press releases

Was really hoping for a sportier interior. There's absolutely not enough lateral support in our current seats.
Personally, I think my car, in it's current state, looks nicer than that R-Spec being shown and I can't imagine myself buying one unless they addressed the issues most of us "lead foots" have had with our current cars. Besides a little more power.

Streets,
I was referring to what was being released in Korea. That particular release made no mention of a V8 there.

I agree, the interior looks gray to me in the video. Can anyone please explain what is being shown on the backside of the rearview mirror at 1:34 in to the video in post #31?
This is the gear required by the Lane Departure Warning system. GENERALLY, It works in other cars by using a combination of sensors and cameras to read the painted roadway bounderies and judge when the car is sliding outside of those boundaries. Not sure exactly how Hyundai will implement their system though.

Korea has 3.3 & 3.8 as do many European/Asian countries- high fuel costs

Perhaps I should be considering something other than the 5.0 given where cost of fuel seems to be going in hurry......

I would not hold my breath on a 2012 4.6 staying at $43800. In an interview Krafcik stated that there would be a price increase to between $45k and $50k. I am betting a 4.6 with all the new features will be 45k to 46.5k and the 5.0 R spec will come in at 48k to 49k both plus destination. Even at these prices they will be well below current competition in price and more in size and features. I think this will stabilize used values as some of the depreciation will be the price increases. After all, why pay much for a used 2009 when the new 2011 cost the same. I also see Hyundai winding down incentives as they seem to be selling all they can make with the lowest per vehicle incentive rate in the industry.

Maybe. I just bought a 2011 Mercedes E350 Blutec for 47K plus change. It is a great market right now.

You got a great car at great price.

If cost of gas worries people then people should not be thinking about spending $40,000 or more for a car. People that worry about the cost of gas should be buying cheap economy cars under $20,000 like Elantra. Here is a gas cost example:

gas at 3.00/gal using 1000 gal. for 20,000 miles in a year = $3.000.00

gas at 4.00/gal using 1000 gal. for 20,000 miles in a year = $4000.00

difference is 1000.00+12 = 83.33/month at 20mpg and 20,000miles in a year. Thats like 20.75 a week. If people are running that close on money they should stay away from cars costing over $20,000.00 and buy cars that get 35mpg or more.

I hear ya and nothing wrong with your math, but I should have been more specific. The 4.6 has adequate power and will run on regular whereas the 5.0 is premium only. Still a great car and will be priced below the 5.0.

Premium is 91 octane, right? I've never put anything in my Passat except 91 (unless of course, the gas station only offered 93). As the poster above has said... it doesn't make THAT much of a difference. I spend more than that on coffee every week, that's for sure.

I do have to say that after 6 months and 18,000 miles on my 4.6. I want a 5.0 r spec, however I will wait for a few years ( 4 or 5) and then get a new car which may be the 5.0 then, who knows.

Homeofstone,
Other than the additional power of the 5.0, why would want to step up to the R Spec? Just curious.

Yep, just for the extra kick of the 5.0, but don't need, just want it, which is not really justifiable.
