  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New Hyundai recall #201 (ABS)

Pardon my irritation, guys, and corporate machinations be damned, but this recall-pending has dragged on for several months now. Meanwhile I can't use my hill-hold-back feature OR my parking brake OR park my car in the garage and I have to wonder when and if it's going to burst into flames. I WANT A DEFINITIVE DATE FOR A SOLUTION! If it's more than a month away this thing may well be replaced by a Prius!

Garage parking is optional but you can still use all those features. I do every time I use the car. I also park mine in the garage. There has only been a couple of instances of fire so I'll take the chance, but that is your decision.

Not sure why you'd choose a Prius. They have had many recalls.

I think the only Car Manufacturer that hasn't had a recall may be Hot Wheels. ;)

2015 - 2016's are technically Hyundais.
Actually, every Genesis model is a Hyundai. Genesis is just an marketing brand name for Hyundai made products. Like my 2011 Lexus RX350 is still a Toyota product or my 2006 Cadillac Escalade is still a GM product.

But true, Genesis models(coup or sedan) up to 2016 are specially branded Hyundai.

True.:)

However, not many current recalls out there from other automakers recommending that you park your car away from buildings due to a fire risk. Hyundai/Genesis is the current winner(or loser) with this ABS recall spanning multiple models.

Not a good look.

I had a 2013 Mustang that Ford recommended I don't drive until repaired. It took FoMoCo a couple of years to do that recall.

Takada Air Bags. Is that Recall Campaign over yet?

Yes, separated by paperwork

Most every auto company has a parent company. Would you buy a Tata? Maybe not, but would probably like its brands.

"The recall is expected to begin May 7, 2021" was what I read online.

OK. However, the Hyundai recall recommend that you can drive the car but not park it near buildings due to a fire risk. Both are bad, but at-least Ford recall posed a clear risk when driving the car.

The Hyundai ABS failure can happen even when the car is parked anywhere at anytime. If the car does not burn down your house, it could burn down a parking garage full of other cars it the ABS module fails.

The Takada airbags affect about 20 different automakers including my Lexus 2011 RX350; so it was hard to avoid a car or truck not equipped with one from 2002-2015.

Fourth paragraph down, note the wording:
However as an added precaution you may wish to park your Genesis away from structures e.g. not in a garage.

I received my notification on the 13/04/21

Genesis model (DH); The first-generation G80 model was originally introduced as the second-generation Hyundai Genesis model (DH) and then rebranded as the G80 in 2016 after Genesis Motor was established as a separate luxury division of Hyundai.

Received my e-mail notification for the 2020 build G80 on the 13/04/21, no follow up todate.

My letter from May 13th said, "we recommend" you park outside and away from structures and vegetation.

My Hyundai recall letter "recommends" that I park my 2015 Genesis away from buildings. I received my letter a couple days ago.

The recall remedy is in y'all. Just scheduled to bring my Genesis in later this week.

Called my dealer - they said they have to "order the parts" and I can expect a call "within a few weeks". Like wow. More waiting....

Any other dealers in your area you could call and see if they have parts in stock? Guess I got lucky that mine already has the parts in

I did inquire at another dealer who is about a half an hour away - and BINGO! I'm in on Thursday, this week!
THANK YOU for the suggestion!
Pete

Uh, I'm not very good with words, so bear with me.

What am I seeing here?
It seems the ABS module can catch fire if 2 things exist:
first: it has an internal short
second: it has a 40 amp fuse.

So my questions:
1: is it correct that the dealer will replace the 40 amp fuse with a 25 amp fuse?
2: does this prevent fires in the event of a short, but you are left with no ABS braking?
3: does the short that blew the 25 amp fuse ruin the ABS unit?
3: so when/if the 25 amp fuse blows, are you supposed to limp in and they will replace the ABS unit? OR: send you away with a fresh 25 amp fuse to await the next short?

I'm confused and concerned about how many miles I'm expected to drive without ABS and whatever else is affected.

Excellent questions!
You have raised the points for which many of us want answers.
I may know *some* answers by tomorrow afternoon when I get my 2016 2G upgraded by Recall 201. I will ask those questions directly and I'll let you know what I find out.

No idea what they are actually doing for the fix. All I know is:

1. Take car to dealership
2. ?????
3. Car no burn house down anymore
