  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New Nav Update Coming

it can't even find my house which was built in 1973... (2013 R Spec)

How much does the upgrade cost at Hyundai for those who have done it in the past?

$200? $300?

I had my Genesis in yesterday for some work and asked my dealer what it would cost to update my Nav maps (2010 w/Tech package) which can only be done by the dealer. $345!!

Initially quoted $300 but after keeping my car for 11 days (head unit "bricked" the first try, new unit shipped in, tech not being careful ((the car has to be baby sat 3 to 4 hours while the update is occurring)) second update timed out, finally updated) so they cut me a break and only asked for only $270 because of the inconvenience. Unlike every other service, they didn't pump me for a good rating :). If I Hyundai ever asks, I have a few things to tell them .

I just dislike having a Garmin or Smartphone hanging in front of this 8", built in screen so I ponied up. The one good thing is that the map upgrade is accompanied with firmware updates that fixed the "unchecked surround sound and mute at startup" issues.

While I agree that upgrading a head unit it not the same as a Map update to a standalone GPS but seriously Garmin and others have units with lifetime map updates for $100-$150.

Car manufactures are simply gouging customers with their updates and if it truly takes 4 hours for these updates then thats also concerning from a design and implementation perspective. If car manufactures, especially Hyundai wanted to win customers then they should provide free Map udaptes.

All Car GPS sucks and the price they want for it is ridiculous. I hope that soon we get something like an AppleTV for cars. So that I can use my smart phone and simply wirelessly display on that nice 8" screen the apps that I care about. I will not pay extra for Car Manufacturers attempts at GPS/APPS/Services (BlueLink) etc. They suck at it and move way to slow, i much prefer what my smart phone offers.

Has anyone had a map update done on their Genesis w/joy stick? (tech package from Hyundai)? What price did you pay? Just seems like $340 is a little high.

I had mine updated back in either February or March, can't remember exactly. The cost was $265 and took two days to complete. The only good part was after the service manager presented me with the bill, I reminded my salesman that the update was part of my car purchase agreement, so they had to eat the charge.

That's what I talked about in post 3 of this thread (DIS is joystick). I paid cost, $144.

BTW - the current update is still horrible with the POI search function. I'll pull up a known business name that has been around for years. The nearest one it finds is a location over 200 miles away. I emailed Hyundai and let them know how shitty MapNSoft's product really is. The current update that is out now is dated 04/2012 and it still doesn't even have my neighborhood listed despite it being built for over 4 years now.

$144? Really? That's incredible. So, where do you live and who is the dealer? Heck, I'm gonna' have to "shop around"! :D

I recently had my first experience with this same issue. I am not normally a user of POI but for fun I put the street address of my wife's restaurant into the nav and it found the street name but not the street number. The street, and buildings, have been there over six years and my map is dated 2011.

I contacted two dealers here asking about the August update (using your site information) - one is still investigating but the other says he has no information regarding a map update for the DIS cars.

The suspense continues.......

There IS a April 2012 update for DIS available now. It's Version 6, I believe. You can call MapNSoft and talk to them about the updates and they will let you know what's up.

Just got a pre-owned 2010 Genesis Sedan with Tech Package/DIS. Some people say their dealerships have done a map update for $100-150. Every dealership I've found in Orange County, California either says "we don't do map updates" or they charge $350-500!

Can anyone recommend a dealership that can ship me the software/USB stick that would be around $100-150?

Thanks!

If you have a DIS model, you cannot perform the update yourself. MapNSoft won't let you.

Absolutely I do not understand this reinventing of the wheel and how we as customers and owners of top of the line Hyundai's are expected to accept this piss poor excuse for map data base info and DIS owners this outdated and risky procedure. If the update was worth it I would get it but from what folks have stated here the "update" is still at least 5 years out of date!

For the $325 that my dealer wants, I'm going to pass on a "map only" update. If there was a firmware update or similar, I'd be thinking about it, but, $325 is beyond ridiculous IMHO.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Pray for me. I am taking my '12 R-spec to the dealer tomorrow for the April '12 map update (as my car was delivered in December 2012 with a 2011 map). He is doing it free. Will advise.

Ask to have your battery on a battery tender. Otherwise, your engine will be idling for around 4-5 hours.

I'm not sure what long idling hurts beyond the amount of fuel left in the tank. Is 3 hours of idiling harder on a car than 3 hours at speed on the interstate? Dealerships are reticent about the upgrade because it takes 3 plus hours to do if it all goes well and often it doesn't go well. My system was made useless by the attempted upgrade. The dealership ordered another head unit and the technician performing the upgrade was too busy and missed cues for tech input and he had to start all over...my car was at the dealership for a total of 11 days! 11 DAYS !! Still after all of the trouble and cost (OK so they gave me a $30 break for my trouble) I'm one of those guys that just can't rest until I have the latest. The upgrade did cure the "no audio" and "un check" surround sound issues. It appears that a significant part of the map upgrade is a firmwarwe update. No issues with paring/use of my new Samsung S4 which maybe due to the firmware update.

My regular Hyundai dealer did not want to do the upgrade. The service writer asked me to call Mapnsoft to make sure his delearship had all of the necessary software if I insited on bringing my car in for the service. The service center had issues with the few systems they had upgraded (only for warranty work since, apparrently, few people bring there cars in for a GPS upgrade)...I had to travel many miles and waste a lot of time to experience an 11 day upgrade :). My written complaints to Hyundai were answered with form letters that were no help at all: "We are sorry that you are experiencing trouble", "your dealership should have all the necessary software", Blah, Blah, Blah...take it back the dealer.
