  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New Nav Update Coming

If the car is sitting out in the hot sun idle it's by far worse for it then going down the road at 60mph as everything is getting air. I had brought mine in for a map update 2 years ago almost and they said it would be 3+ hours till the car was ready, so they put me in a loaner car for the day. After about 4 hours they called me back saying the updated failed and had to be started over so they would need to keep my vehicle till the following day. It had about 3/8th's of a tank when I brought it in to them. The technician forgot the car was running and everyone went home, leaving my car to run fully out of gas and kill the battery. They wound up replacing the fuel pump and battery plus gave me the map update for free.

I'm not a fan of their navigation software and the process for updating is archaic to say the least considering how advanced technology is. Every vehicle should be using Google Maps even if it's via there "blue link" package. I'm o.k. with paying $125-150/year so long as it has the latest updates and can be done over the air or by a thumb drive that is coded to your car, it cant be that difficult to accomplish. I think more people would be willing to pay for the updates and Hyundai would generate greater revenue as a bottom line.

My dealer told me a new update was coming in October. Even stating October is when ALL the updates come out. Advised me to NOT do the upgrade till then as it would be almost pointless to get an update that was 10 mos. old....... so, I dunno what's right. I have the DIS system, so MapnSoft is useless to my car.

I still prefer my Garmin nüvi® 2797LMT - free map updates for life.

I have complete maps of North America and Europe on it - making it insanely valuable when I travel.

I was at one of the larger dealerships yesterday getting a map update and they told me they did not have any official information on the next update but that they tended to be released in the April-May time frame for the DIS equipped models.

My update was simply to get the maps in sync with the delivery time of the car so I didn't want to wait.

Isn't that odd how your dealer tells you one thing and my dealer tells me something entirely different??!! Hyundai just isn't in the customer service business.

Just found out Map N Soft is releasing a new map update around next month. If you were planning on upgrading, might want to wait.

Just talked with MapNSoft today (8/9/13) and a new update, tho not official, is speculated to be released in October. Told me most of the updates come out then and the expected latest update is again October. This was also what my dealer had told me prior to calling MapNSoft. (this is for the DIS)

So, with that in mind, I've got a couple of months to think about spending $350 to update stinkin' maps.

Does anyone else have an issue with their Nav system sending them around their butts to get to their elbow??? I've checked mine on several occasions and the route it wanted to send me was totally ridiculous. It's almost like it doesn't recognize interstate highways. I'm talking about a 10-12 mile trip (one way) Now, if I thought there was a chance the "update" would include fixes for such stupid things as this, I'd pay the $350, but, to just update maps..... well, that's a different issue altogether.

I haven't had your problem of route problems but then I use the nav system mainly to tell me what arterial is next so I don't have to try to read the street signs.

I am with you though. After a whole day last week getting my maps updated I do not plan to do it again as long as I have the car. I've been driving since the age of 14 and figure I know how to lay out a route without the aid of an electronic gadget.

Nav would be really nice if it had a working accident/closed option where it could advise you of problems on your route but I have never seen one of these that was good enough to be really useful. I don't spend enough time driving anyway.

Reading this thread, I find I love my Garmin nüvi® 2797LMT more and more..

I'm not sure what long idling hurts beyond the amount of fuel left in the tank. Is 3 hours of idiling harder on a car than 3 hours at speed on the interstate? Dealerships are reticent about the upgrade because it takes 3 plus hours to do if it all goes well and often it doesn't go well. My system was made useless by the attempted upgrade. The dealership ordered another head unit and the technician performing the upgrade was too busy and missed cues for tech input and he had to start all over...my car was at the dealership for a total of 11 days! 11 DAYS !! Still after all of the trouble and cost (OK so they gave me a $30 break for my trouble) I'm one of those guys that just can't rest until I have the latest. The upgrade did cure the "no audio" and "un check" surround sound issues. It appears that a significant part of the map upgrade is a firmwarwe update. No issues with paring/use of my new Samsung S4 which maybe due to the firmware update.

The current/original version of the software is having serious issues with my Galaxy S4. Bluetooth will cut out for a few seconds like the call dropped, then reconnect as if nothing had gone wrong. I haven't tried my wife's iPhone 5 yet but this is extremely frustrating!

shagnat: So you aren't having any issues with the S4 now?

I spoke with a MapNSoft rep a few days ago and they said the same thing about the timing of the next update.

Thank you everyone for your feedback regarding these updates. This particular thread has been especially enlightening!

Wierd deal about the S4 and wether the NAV updated helps. I bought my S4 after having my Tech NAV updated (huge pain in the seat)...and I haven't had a single issue with paring and use of the S4 in my 2012 3.8 Tech. I can't say if the map/firmware update is a cure because of timing BUT I can say that the S4 works perfectly well in the car SO the update might fix issues with the S4. It's a bit of a gamble. A $300 dollar (Nav update price) gamble.
