  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

No 2016 V8 5.0s????

A local dealer in Denville, NJ told me initially that he thought there would not be a 2016 V8, then after checking with "his guy in HMA" he said they would be out in late spring or summer. By then it may be called a 2017 Genesis G80HP or whatever!

That is more in line with what I was told. My dealer forwarded me emails from the Senior Manager for Region Distribution, and the emails contained all of the port information for the 2016's. There are ZERO 2016 5.0's in port, and none listed as "in production." Lots of 3.8's though.

I know I could buy a 2015, but I'd rather have the latest model. I can certainly wait a few months, but this does not seem to be an issue of "they are holding the car at the ports until the 2015 inventory thins." Based on what I can tell, it is more of a cancellation.

So, my choices appear to be a 2015 5.0, a 2016 3.8 AWD, or an undetermined 2016/7 5.0 or G80xxx something. I wish they could be a little more transparent in their production plans... I definitely preferred the extra pick-up of the V8, but I would prefer to buy a 2016. Arrrgh!

You are aware the latest model actually dropped features and is 99.9% the same exact car as the 2015. It did gain LED DRL's and a slightly better warranty term on the electronics, but that's basically it. In this case, the "newer model" is not really that newer and with the deep discounts available, makes the 2015 a current bargain. When you throw in a free set of tires (if it still have the Hankook's), it is tough to wait for a new car that is only new in year.

Interesting - maybe an earlier G80 launch than was expected?

Just keep in mind that there is no guarantee that the G80 will even be offered with the 5.0 at this point, so a good deal on a 2015 (esp an Ultimate) is pretty enticing.

I don't see them offering the G80 in 3.3T, 3.8 and 5.0 variants so one engine could likely be dropped. Given CAFE and how close the 3.T and 5.0 are power-wise, I'd guess the 5. 0 could be the one to go (if one has to go). All a guess, obviously...

Fully aware of the similarities and differences, though I appreciate the reminder. I like the LEDs and the fog lights, and frankly, would prefer to spend a little more for the current model year (even though the differences are trivial (to some)). Anyway, I do appreciate the suggestion, and may well decide to take it. But, all things being equal, I would prefer to spend my money on a 2016 5.0 now. That said, we can't always get what we want...

The LED fog lights were already standard on the 2015 V8. The only real difference is the LED DRL's.

...and loss of the power rear sunshade and CDC suspension option - so actually the 2016 would be a lesser equipped car (as you had stated) if it ships as a Genesis 5.0 and not a G80.

I am thinking if it is one of the first in the spin off brand name, that it would be nice to wait and get one of the newer ones. I bought a new 2013 R-spec in 2013, but get treated like i bought a used accent when i bring it in for service

Wondering about when they do the spin off dealership, will we get to take our geneses there or will it be for the new GXXX models only?

From what I understand, separate dealerships are a long way off, at least 5 years.

They'll take the G2, but definitely not the G1 ;)

Since there are not any separate Genesis dealerships, and won't be any for awhile (if ever), this whole discussion is nothing but intellectual masturbation.

Obviously joking...
