  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

has any body had brake light not work i have a 2011 4.6 and mine went out not the fuse

It's probably a bad diode. Happened to me a while back. Should be repaired under warranty.

Thanks to a fellow driver, just find out yesterday my '10 Genesis Sedan (3.8L) had no brake light at all. Searched web and found a recall on defective brake light switch, although Genesis Sedan is not listed.

Check you light: there is no warning or any other indications.

^ This.

There should be a recall for it, but there is not. Kinda stupid, but Hyundai/Kia used bad brake diodes in a lot of their cars.

Ditto - had the same problem on my '11 Genny. Was a bad diode. In/out of the dealership in a 15 minute repair.

Yep, burnt diode. Also had brake fluid changed to DOT-4 per "recall campaign TL6". Plus a free car wash for total 2 hours.

Bet the designer fitted the diode to bulb wattage but didn't count cold-bulb inrush current, which can be multiple of normal current. Hope they corrected it or it will fail again.

@xh99: Glad you got it taken care of. After my brake lights went out, I had Hyundai roadside service tow my car to the dealer (actually, they put it on a flatbed truck) because I didn't feel safe driving it. I was thankful that nobody had rear-ended me while the lights weren't working, which I only heard about from someone who was following me in the garage at work.

I had a good samaritan notify me that my brake lights were out as well. I'm taking the car to the dealer today.

I just got back from the dealer with the same problem on my 2011 4.6 Genny. I also got the brake fluid replaced and an oil change.

There is a recall for this issue. I received the following email:

...
Hyundai has determined that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain model year 2007 through 2011 Hyundai vehicles.

...
An investigation by Hyundai has determined that the stop lamp switch in the affected vehicles may intermittently malfunction. A stop lamp switch malfunction may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed. Intermittent operation of the stop lamps could increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

A stop lamp switch malfunction may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, intermittent ability to remove the vehicle's shifter from the Park position, illumination of the "ESC" (Electronic Stability Control) indicator lamp in the instrument cluster, and intermittent interference with operation of the cruise control feature.

just another option using the emergency flashers if the brake lights are not functioning.

It might be of loose contact or fuse gone... Ask for a mechanic to look for and get it done...

Going by memory, I think it is the Z002 diode. Happened to my car also. As an emergency drop-off, my dealer fixed it in about an hour. It is a known problem.
