  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

No Good Vibrations here

I just signed up for this forum and guess what...I found this topic towards the top...I just purchased a 2015 3.8 AWD and mine is doing the same exact thing.

I test drove an AWD at the dealer and noticed the vibration right away. It was very bad at first, but went away slightly after driving the car for 20 minutes. I still felt a little vibration from "The car"..it wasn't in the steering wheel (front tire) or seat of my pants (rear tire), but just a very subtle vibration that permeates the whole driving experience.

I asked the salesman to check over the car I purchased (different one than the car I test drove) before I took it home and he told me it was good to go. As I started driving home (400 mile trip), it was vibrating just like the other car. The amount of vibration decreased as the car tires warmed up (they were filled with nitrogen at 33 psi), but it was almost the same exact feeling. I drove it for about 30 miles and was getting bothered by the lane keeping feature. I pulled over and changed the mode in the settings from "pre departure" to "post departure" and the driving experience was greatly improved. It appears that the "pre" setting is a little aggressive in making inputs. As for the vibration, it got better as I drove the car home over the 400 miles, but I did still notice it slightly and I think that I will take it to the dealer for a tire inspection. I've had Hankook tires before and they have generally been very good. I'll be paying particular attention to the vibration in my car and this thread. I wouldn't be surprised if there is something wrong with the tires or a NVH mount or drivetrain issue in the AWD system.

While I can't comment on your exact car I can say that my balancing will probably help provided you follow the steps outlined in this thread:

To be clear, following those steps will not fix the initial vibration but in my experience 5 miles tends to be enough to smooth things out after a warm road force balancing of all four tires.

I wonder if previous Hankook tires have had a blend of nylon and other materials? That's the general impression I get from the limited time I have to look into this further. That other tires do use nylon but rarely is it the only material used in that part of tire construction, at least for this type of purpose.

I have had the same issues with vibration since i took ownership of the car in September. I finally got the chance to get it check out at the dealer. I had around 1900 miles on the odo. The tech told me both the rear wheels were badly out of balance. After rebalancing them i can definitely tell a difference. Now the car rides perfectly smooth up to around 72 mph. Between 72-78 mph i feel the slightest hint of vibration in the steering wheel. I drive on backroads mostly so chances i'll be below 70 mph most of the times.
Just figured i would share my experience.
