  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Official Winter tires for Canada

Sorry that you live in a tiny little apartment with no storage in the bldg. I deal with LOTS of new condo bldgs. in our city and they all seem to have storage units downstairs. I still can't picture a retail store storing hundreds of tires that aren't even theirs'. But I guess there is a market for it.

You really are working that "cranky old man" stereotype hard aren't you?

If being 27 is old, then yes.

To put the Tire Storage issue into perspective, you have to first understand that Winter tires are commonplace in Canada, mandatory in some Provinces and essential in all the Northern Territories. If you have two or more vehicles in your household, Storage does become a significant issue. I have a big garage but finding room for 12 wheels and tires is not easy. Most Tire vendors and many Dealers will store your wheels and tires if they sold them to you. Some do it for free, others make a nominal charge. It's actually good business sense, as it keeps the customer coming back each season and quite often other services are required or requested at the same time.

Fair enough, as I had NO idea this market even existed. As a business owner I have to say that rent on a large retail space is pretty pricey anywhere. I just can't imagine, with the rent I pay, dedicating space to dozens if not hundreds of tires. The margins in tires must a be a lot higher than I thought.

Just had my winter tires installed 17" on black rims shown in previous post Got the Stonebridge with Winter storage $1365.00 plus taxes

So all the tire stores in your area sell winter tires to people and then store the summer ones? Man that's a poor use of expensive retail real estate.
I'm baffled by this. Why can't you take your tires home? Do a lot of people do this? It is hard to believe that a commercial business would set aside expensive retail space to store peoples' personal belongings.

And you think your dealer is "lackadaisical" because he won't store your summer tires??

This one of the most unique posts I have ever read on a car forum.

Ha ha. I'm not sure calling my post unique is a compliment! Not all tire stores and car dealers store tires but a growing number do. For a lot of people like me this is a deciding factor. I can take my tires home but storing them is a problem. We have two cars. Where do we store the summer tires in winter and the winter tires in summer? In the garage? It is to laugh! Our garage like many other people's is jammed full of stuff from bicycles, to gardening tools, to black, blue, green and regular boxes for garbage, etc. etc. etc. Many people have so much stored in their garage, they have no room for their car!! Do we store all the tires in our garden shed? Well, right now the shed is jammed to the rafters with all our garden furniture as it is every winter. I guess we could lean the tires and their wheels up against the house but that looks unsightly, may get in the way, exposes them to the danger of theft and may not be good for them.

Do you understand now why I want my tires stored by others?

Hi Roger. I can certainly understand that you want your tires stored. I am just REALLY surprised that a tire store would do it. Most companies (especially now), are being very careful with their money and examining every penny spent. As a business owner it seems like a poor use of money to me. I could maybe understand it if the store was downtown and almost all the customers were apartment/condo people. Still though, if you are downtown merchant how extreme is your rent?

I was also taken aback by your comment that your dealership may be lacksadaisical (inferring not well run?) due to its' unwillingness to store your summer tires. Seemed a little over the top to me.
Maybe as a small businessman, I am a little defensive.;)

Actually, I run my own business as well but not retail. The more services that a business can provide the better outcome they will have for returning customers. This goes for large and small operations. Theres a reason why I choose to take my car to a certain autobody; theres a reason why I shop for firearms at a certain gun shop; theres a reason why I purchase my business clothes at a certain taylor.

If someone or a business is to provide me more options for a fair price I will most likely be a returning customer.

If a business is trying to sell for volume and not customer experience, then we all just go to Wal-Mart. I know what kind of experience I'll get there....
