  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I need to downsize wheels and tires from 19" to 18" for winter on my R-Spec. I'm trying to buy wheels that will fit over the brakes. Can anyone who has done this share the wheel specs I need to look for? Thanks in advance.

I had a lot of problems until I noticed the inside of the wheel is flat. Most wheels that have a lip at 8" wide will hit the bolts and knock the paint off the brakes. Buy a set of used 5.0 wheels at the website that sells used wheels they sell a complete line of Hyundai wheels. The wheels will fit perfect and I think they are also 8" wide.

Do you mean used 18" wheels from a non-R-Spec 5.0? And also, are you referring to a specific website, or are you suggesting a web search.
Thanks.

Ok. So here's the solution I found. I didn't go with the suggestion of the OEM wheel from the 5.0 because I don't like that wheel at all.

My objective was to find a good-looking, light-weight 18x8 wheel for winter that would accommodate a 235-50/18 Michelin X-Ice 3. As we know, the calipers are big, so there was some trial and error to find something that would fit.

The wheels are Advanti Racing Denaro B2 in black with a machined lip. The wheel weight is 21 lbs., which I really like. A spacer was added (minimal) as a precaution. The wheels needed a hub ring, etc., but I didn't care because I've had good luck previously with non-hub-centric wheels requiring rings.

The wheels looks ok -- I'm getting used to it and think I will like it more and more. What a light-weight 50 series tire does on an 18" wheel with the R-Spec is very, very significant, I think in terms of comfort, especially over these winter-weary, pothole ridden Minnesota roads. I would rate the ride now with these X-Ice 3s as a 30% improvement and the handling loses only about 5%.

Brake clearance depends on wheel design, not offset. Deeper dish wheels, even with lower offsets, tend to have clearance problems with larger calipers. Concave wheels do as well. Flatter faced designs tend to fit without having to resort to spacers or lower offsets.

Generally speaking you want to keep the offset as close to stock as possible.

That's the first set of black wheels on a Genny that I've liked even an iota! Not for me, but, they do look pretty cool.......... most of 'em I can't even stand to look at 'em and feel sorry for the buyer...... guess it proves the point of ............... hang around long enough and no telling what'll happen. :)
