  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Oil Change @ Dealership

Are they just the black plastic trim screws? Hold the base to prevent it from rotating, unscrew the screw part until you can pop the whole thing out...

Here's what I'm talking about:

There's also lots of 10 mm cap screws - but no probs. there

Which tool is the better for removing the push pins - the phillips driver or the panel tool?View attachment 6428

The push pins have a phillips head.

I use the screwdriver with good results. The center pin (that unscrews) splays the legs of the fastener--so I would be cautious of the pry-out approach--even if the screwdriver was sub-premium.

The philips screw driver method is the only way to go as if you do not unscrew it partially you will break the fastener or enlarge the hole rendering it useless if you simply pry it only. You can however use both by unscrewing partially with a philips screw driver first and THEN use the pry tool to remove it.

That being said, I strongly suggest you buy the bag of 100 retainer replacements for $8. Been there done that.

I just had my oil changed @ a dealer..Was charged 43 dollars

Ask them what they charge if you supply the oil?

Two 5-quart jugs of Mobil 1 (full synthetic) would cost about $55 (including tax) at Walmart. As noted by others, the oil changes on the 2015 are a bit more time consuming due to the more complicated panels that have to removed underneath the car.

My local dealership, where I purchased my "15 V6 Genny, charges me $20 plus the cost of the Hyundai filter when I supply my own oil; Mobil One 5W30.

Your are lucky, my dealer in Canada charges $120 for dino oil. I do it myself with synthetic. Here Syn goes for $42++ for 5 quarts, add a filter @ $10 and you are already up to $102 just in parts. Best bet is to buy the Syn on sale prior and get it for 1/2 price. ;)

Amazing that the dealer rips you off to that degree. For comparative purposes we just had an oil change this week at a dealership for wife's car which is a Toyota and uses synthetic oil. Price is $59 Canadian plus tax. That works out to about 44 bucks in$US

A genesis oil change is harder, probably uses more oil and should be more expensive for that reason....

If you don't do your own oil changes because of the difficulty in removing the panels - and you don't want to pay your local Hyundai dealer to do it.
Well here is an interesting read where an Audi owner took his car to one of those quicky lube shops and the end result.

Idiots at Lube Shop

Question re. the first oil change on my new 2015 Genesis. I know dealers will at least give the first change complementary. Is that change paid for by the dealer, of is it from the Hyundai company itself? The reason I ask is that I'll probably be out of state when it's due, and would like to know what to expect re. this first change from a dealership different from the one I leased it from.

That is a dealer offer.
