  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Other cool cars like the G70

^ fun clip. and probably honest.

now, what would a protracted circuit course reveal to test overall handling, braking and all other relevant chassis dynamics? straight line is the easy part. this is what gets lost with many of these EV drag races. most people need more out of a performance car than Dominic Toretto...

Yeah... I rented a Model S once in Vegas... sure, it was fun in a straight line but damn it was boring. There's no drama. It was a neat party trick the first couple of times I floored it but that was it... If I were to actually buy a car that can go like that, it better wake up the neighbors and reek of petrol. It needs to satisfy all the senses otherwise, it's just an appliance.

Thanks, I've always wondered what Tesla's are like.. An acquaintance of mine sold his 2016 M3 for a Model 3 Performance. He said he loved the M3P and didn't miss the ICE but I wasn't sure if that was an attempt at justifying it or genuine.

The other thing too is... is it a good idea to make 600+ horsepower cars affordable? Back in my day, 0-60 in the 6's was fast... now it's common. My Sonata Turbo, a mid range sedan, was as quick as my MR2T and my Genesis sedan... a 4500 pound sedan is as quick as a MKIV Supra. In 5-10 years, the common car could be doing 0-60 in the 3s range if EVs become really affordable. I'm hoping by then, cars won't have steering wheels and will drive themselves... lol The average driver isn't disciplined enough to handle 600hp.

Just imagine if Genesis actually came out with this beauty. Wow...

So the Acura TLX Type S will be 355HP, 354 lb-ft of torque. Goes on sale in May, driving impressions embargo until May 20th. Comes with a 10-speed transmission. Here it is in a video.

I'm interested to see what the driving dynamics and performance are like. I'm split on my thinking for this car right now. On one hand, it looks good but it's really large with a small interior. It's strange they would do a transverse engine, effectively making it a fwd based awd car.. and then they design the car to try and make it look like a rwd car. On the other hand, the exhaust note sounds great and it looks like it is quick. Handling will likely be really good.

Seems like they did some benchmarking of the G70, based on price, etc.

Yet the only comparisons you ever hear about are against Audi, BMW and Mercedes.

how much will that TLX Type S weigh though? the non-S is already heavier than a BMW 530i at over 4000lbs. and the f/r balance is ugly with the base car already. with that much heavier V6 hung in front of the axle the balance will be out of whack even more - and it surely has to have packed on some extra pork.

the rear diff looks cool, the front grille is actually normal sized and some folks will like the interior style, but my guess the Type S will be more than a small step behind the competition in terms of test data and handling. it'll be good, no doubt, and it'll make Honda fans happy as a nice step up from their Accord 2.0T's. but it won't attract enthusiasts away from current brands or anyone placing a higher priority on performance than luxury. clearly the Type S still skews towards the luxury end of the scale more so than the competition.

the single turbo is in an odd spot, off to the side (or behind the engine since it is transverse) and directly above some other parts. curious how the tuning community will take to it. maybe it is better for tuning, maybe not...

TLX Type S reviews are out all over the internet. Unsurprisingly, it's a porker at 4300 pounds and 0-60 in 5 seconds. The G70 would smoke this, heck the new G80 might too.

Thought the power would be higher.

^^ interesting. so with the summer tires the TLX-S is $53,200 USD. about $3200 USD more than the 'comparable' G70. but we know the G70 has features the TLX-S doesn't: heated wheel, HUD, 360 cam, heated rear seats. maybe more, but those are 4 features he said were not on the Type S. i'd have to think the G70 would run circles around the Type S even with its fancy rear diff.

as we already knew, the germans are at least ~$10-$15k more than the Type S which further the gap to the G70.

curious what the F/R weight balance is with the TLX-S, but i bet it's no bueno since the base 2.0T is already heavy on the nose.

F/R is 59/41 for the TLX Type-S

It's a nice car that would be a great option..... if the G70 didn't exist.

I got to sit in a Type-S on Father's Day, went to a Ferrari car show and Acura was one of the Sponsors (Genesis too). Anyway, I had that exact feeling when I checked out the car. It's super nice and would probably get one IF I didn't pull up to the show in my G70. There was a lot more room in the TLX however, felt closer in size to my G80. G70 feels perfectly balanced as far as how the weight feels when you drive it.

Man that M4 is fast; here it is basically beating a C8 Corvette.

Yeah, that S58 makes big power. My G70 with mild ECU tune runs the same 0-60 because of the torque and AWD but after that, the M4 would pull away. I'm not sure what my 1/4 mile is but likely around 11.9 -12.0. M4 is 11.6 - must feel so good.

Had a TL when it was first released, loved it. Three cars later, decided to get a 1st generation TLX. On paper it looked so good, test drive was ok, turned out to be one of the most disappointing cars I have ever had. Replaced it with the G70.

New TLX Type S seems to have improved upon a lot that was wrong with the original TLX…on paper.

Meanwhile my 3 year old G70 continues to bring a smile to my face EVERY SINGLE drive.

Might be a bit off topic, but since BMW and the M4 have been brought up….

I remember dreaming about the 635CSI as a kid. But then I stopped being a BMW fan years ago. I felt like they lost the “ultimate driving machine” magic. BMWs were everywhere on the road. Plus a lot of BMW drivers seem like such a55holes.

So imagine my shock when I fell for this. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea and it’s not perfect for sure, but….fck it’s fast.
