  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

1. Your post is definitely not off-topic
2. The 633CSI was a beautiful automobile
3. Not going to lie, the colour of blue in that 850 is stunning. Enjoy your ride!

I had a '95 850CI about 10 years ago.. blue with white interior... I loved that car, that V12 was so smooth... not fast at all by today's standards but it looks like it should be... lol... Doubling my money on it was hard to resist when values rose... I miss it :(

I loved the look of those cars.

Give me your thoughts on the 2nd race.

I think he's better off letting the car shift on it's own. Looks like he's shifting way too early.

Bingo. In the first race he let the car shift and the Type-S was no match for the G70. In the second race, you could tell he was feeling bad, so he short shifted big time. The Type-S still couldn't pass. "It is what it is" as they say. Why do that?

I agree. I'd like to see them use a vbox or dragy but I remember seeing a comment from him stating he had a dragy and it wasn't worth it. Probably moreso cause his launches suck!

Hi launches do suck. He's a great guy and I love the races but rarely does the car he's driving do well.

I'm a big fan of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. Haha just I bit more expensive but its a good looking car IMO.

Car and Driver updated their Type S article with the performance runs- it's a slug:

View attachment 38001

Some commenters mentioned that it's slower than not just an S4 but an A4, and not just the G70 but the G80.
^ C&D will be doing a comparo between the Type S and the G70. it'll be an interesting read. The Type S holds its own features-wise and price wise with the Germans, but comes up short on performance. against the G70 though, it will likely fall short on all fronts for anything other than subjective stuff like styling.

surprisingly, the Type S has a cramped rear seat as noted in the C&D article. that's odd. it is huge and heavy with a long wheelbase. i would've expected it to be roomy in the back since it is dimensioned like a BMW 5-series, and it's even heavier than a 5-series.

the article didn't spec the F/R weight bias, but a full review spec sheet will show this soon. close to 60/40 is what i expect which will hamper dynamics compared to RWD-based competition.

Agree, this will be an interesting comparison....

  • Two YouTube reviews have said the Type-S handling is better than the G70 and the skidpad numbers are higher at (0.96g) vs the G70 (0.91g). I'm not sure how a 60/40 car with all that weight would handle better on a track... Skidpad numbers are just one metric and don't tell the story.
  • The G70 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are much quicker. 0-60 4.5 vs 4.9 Type-S and 12.9 vs. 13.5 (these vary for both cars but the delta stays the same)
  • A recent YouTube video shows a G70 easily pulling away from a Type-S and the G70 had 2 passengers, while the Type-S had one.
  • In terms of features, the Type-S is missing a few compared to the G70 - head-up display, 360-degree camera, and heated rear seats. It also has a small sunroof.
  • The Type-S sounds better than the G70 from the video's I've seen.
  • It will be interesting to hear reviewers comments on character and which car invokes more of a drivers feeling.

@Slip_Angle
A couple other things the G70 has that the Type S is missing:

- Power tilt/telescoping steering wheel
- 2 piston brembo rear brakes

These things should be standard at this price point. But then again, the new M4/M3 doesn't either. 🤷‍♂️

^ i notice most competitors don't have fixed calipers in the rear, even AMG/S4 and the BMWs. it is quite rare in sport sedans unless you go top spec for Audi RS's and the like. i thought the M3 had them but i guess not. my buddy's C63S has sliding calipers in the rear which surprised me. clearly they get the performance they specify using sliding calipers, but fixed calipers do seem like a higher spec component, and are more expensive for sure.

To add to the list of what the Type S is missing: :)
Heads Up Display
360 Reverse Camera
Digital Key
*If supply issues resolve, a 3D gauge cluster and a power trunk lid.

Also a heated steering wheel...

Yeah, Type S is missing a lot of the features from the Advanced trim. If it did have them all, it would be in the $60k+ price range, which at that point would be suicide compared to the Germans which cost around the same loaded, nevermind having far better performance.

Oh, and someone put the Type S on the Dynojet. 280 HP to the wheels, on a 4300 pound car. No wonder this was getting smoked left and right.
