Ottawa area

I see a Genesis now every few days in the Ottawa area. I guess there are more and more of them. The last time was last evening. We were at the New Dubrovnik restaurant on Carling Ave. There was a light coloured Genesis in the parking lot. I'm not sure of the exact colour. I wonder if that could have been you, rmwweb?

Nope, that wasn't me (unless my car is sneaking out at night without me! LOL).

I too am starting to see more Genesis's on the road these days, still not a lot of them but way more than 18 months ago. Strangely, I'm also not seeing very many of the new (2009) Nissan Maixima - which was the car I was about to buy when I discovered the Genesis. With a long history of previous versions, I would have expected the Maixma to be a pretty common sight. Go figure huh?

HI, I eave in Gatineau, I imported my Genesis 4.6L/TechPack last spring. I experiment the same problem regarding the suspension. It is really bumpy.

By the way, I am still looking for options regarding winter tires. Should I put 17" or 18"? Where is the best deal?

What year Genesis did you get? The newer one's are supposed to have improved suspension, still very firm but better than the original 2009 model. My car has softened up a bit (maybe I'm just getting used to it) in the last 6 months, and while I would still prefer a better suspension, it's not as bad as it was the first year.

As for winter tires, if you are looking to also improve the ride, I would recommend the 17" since they have a little higher sidewall (55 vs 50 %). It's minor but every bit helps. I can't really help with respect to where the best deal is since when I bought my tires there were very few places that even stocked the right tires. My general experience with tires for my previous cars has always been good with Frisby Tires. They seem to know their stuff, never tried to upsell me, and on the one or two occasions I've had an issue, they always handled the problem quickly and professionally. You could probably find tires cheaper but...

I did get to drive on both the Yokohama's and the Continentals due to a mix up with the dealer putting the wrong tires and rims on my car when I first put the winter tires on. Although the Continentals are fine, I do remember my first impression after they swapped the Yoko's off and put the Continentals on, was that the Yoko's felt much more secure. It was snowing ligthly that day when I drove to the dealership and still snowing when I left so the roads were about the same when I left on the Continentals and my immediate reaction was "damn, these aren't as good"

One thing for sure is that you will definitely want to have winter tires on the car before the snow starts to fly. I guess since you live in Quebec you have to by law but what I'm saying is don't wait til the last minute, the difference between the original summer Dunlop's and winter tires is HUGE.

Best of luck with your car.

I got a 2009 Genesis 4.6L TechPack Bleu Saphyr w/ cashmere inside. My wife works in skyline buildings on corner Merivale/Baseline

Which Fresby? Can they provide rims & tires? Were you prefered Yoko on top of Continental?

I've dealt with Frisby's at both their Industrial Rd. and Queensdale stores. Mostly the one on Queensdale but both were good.

When I was buying the winter tires for my car, nobody had any tires or rims available in the right size except the dealers and even they were having trouble getting tires that were the right size. With respect to rims, I ordered a set of rims from the dealer that turned out not to fit despite being the correct size according to the manufacturer. The brakes are pretty big on the Genesis so it only certain rims will fit over them.

I would take the Yokohama's over the Continental's based on my experience but if I could have gotten Michelins back then probably would have gone with them. There's a fair bit of information available on winter tire choices in other threads on this site, look for them in the "Wheels Tires and detailing" section of the forum

Cheers

Re: Any great auto detailers in Ottawa area

Hi folks. I have a blue exterior, cashmere interior genesis 3.8 and i would like to get it detailed. Btw, I have a few hard-to-notice stone chips on my hood also, so I am interested to see if any body has got these painted and where/by who. And, also if you guys could recommend any really good auto detailers that won't leave swirl marks on my car.

Thanks a bunch!

Welcome to the club!! As you can see, there hasn't been much activity on this thread for quite a while. What year Genny do you have? Can't help with the paint chips I'm afraid. I did have my car detailed by the car wash guys in the parking garage at Place de Ville and they didn't put any swirl marks in it, but overall I wasn't dazzled by the job.

Hi Rw.

I have a 2009, blue ex cashmere int. I have never gotten it detailed. So this'll be the first time. I need some detailing and some minor buffing to be done. I don't mind paying the dollar for a premium job. Hopefully, somebody can suggest a great place.

How has your car been running? Issues? problems? Mine is in great condition, the limit switch on the steering column went so the dealership is supposed to call me when they get the part, so it can be fixed. Apart from that. Its a great car. Family loves it.

I was reading previous threads you wrote regarding the suspension, after discovering this website. I agree that the suspension could be better. The handling compensates for me I guess. Some have suggested changing out the 2009 suspension parts to 2012 parts, that may ameliorate the problem.

Cheers.

Im gonna bump this thread from a decade ago, not sure why everyone stopped posting in here but I recently bought a 5.0. Not many Genesis around the area I see. The ones I do, don't seem much like car guys lol. Anyways would love to meet some locals and wondering where everyone in this thread is today

Hey newguyy! Wow! A blast from the past! Since I started this thread years ago, I feel l should respond to your bump. Hopefully this will generate some new activity regarding Genesis owners in the Ottawa area.

I’m currently driving my third Genesis and have the fourth one on order ( a GV70). Am looking forward to moving into a SUV as I’m not getting any younger and am starting to find that the G80 sedan is a bit low getting in an out. My current 5.0 Ultimate is a great car. To dredge up the issue from years ago, the difference between my first Genesis and this one is night and day! The suspension improvements over the the years has been remarkable.

It’s funny, my first two Genny’s were both 3.8’s and I never felt they were lacking in power. When I bought my current 5.0 I did so for the features that were only available in the ultimate version, not because of the 5.0 engine. After driving it for a few weeks though I was convinced about the old adage “nothing replaces displacement”. The 5.0 is such a great engine, well I guess I should say “was such a good engine“ since they aren’t selling it any longer. It is so sweet to be able to just feather in a bit of throttle to accelerate past someone on a side road, no fuss, no muss, just smooth and fast acceleration. The only time I ever floor it is when I‘ve got someone new in the car and want to impress them!

Enjoy your 5.0, it’s the engine the car is meant to have!

P.S. I got your PM, I am in the south end of Ottawa.

Good to see someone local here, my generation genesis is a dying breed, especially in a city like ours. I feel if you don't drive a Benz/BMW goodluck finding any car groups to associate with lol. Lots of coupes out there. not many of us sedan guys but then we get things like the 5.0 that they dont. I kinda like being the oddball out there, not many know of the sedans and even less know they came with the 5.0 motor. Been to a few car meets and ive literally had one person come and talk to me about it, and guess what? He used to own one LOL hence he knew what it was.

I hear you on the SUV upgrade as you get older, but I enjoy them both, sedan and SUVs'. I went through your old threads and saw the 1000's of posts regarding the suspension lol. I agree with you there, when I first got mine, it felt stiff, pretty much like what my previous car felt with lowering springs on but i guess thats how they fine tuned the suspension to keep up with the competitors as far as the 'performance' aspect of it went. Ive come to like it, its not insanely harsh.

I came across another local who has the 4.6 as well, ill probably run into him at a few car meets since he likes to venture out to some of them. Maybe we might run into each other sometime. I have a white 13 R spec with some work done. Ill post some pics later from home. Im around the St Laurent mall area.

Hello Genesis owners in Ottawa,

I have a question for you guys about your experience with the dealership here, especially with regards to service and any necessary repair/warranty/recall issues etc. The primary reason for me to consider going with Genesis (GV70) is the convenience of the concierge service and loaner vehicle etc while the vehicle is out for scheduled maintenance. Are you folks happy with the service you get? I have been trying to look up info on that online and it's possible I am not looking at the right sources or most folks who post about it are typically ones who have something to complain about. I'd love to hear from you about your experience with the service team in town and the overall reliability of your genesis. Thank you so much in advance.

Hey all, just thought I'd try to bring this thread back to life. I do see an increasing number of Genesises (Geneses? Genesi?) on Ottawa streets lately, and thought I'd gauge nterest in having a meetup some Saturday AM. I don't know how many enthusiast owners are here in Ottawa, but hopefully there is a decent number.

I was one of the early members of Ottawa's Miata club back in the early 1990s, and we were a really mixed group (ranging from just-graduated early 20s up to retired folks in their 60s) but we all shared a passion for cars and for the Miata in particular. You may not realize what you have in common with others until you start hanging out with them, I am still close friends with a few of the old Miata club gang!

Please post to let me know of your interest, and we can try to organize something in the near future.

cheers
