  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Pet peeves about the Genesis

I'll second the pet peeve about not having a useful period of retained power after turning off the engine. I have a Silverado that gives me about 10 minutes of retained power. I like to shut down the engine and then adjust windows, sunroof, etc. after shutdown. I might have 45 seconds on the windows, but no time at all on the sunroof.

My pet peeves about the Genesis are due to visibility issues, nothing about build quality.

1. Side mirrors are positioned where it blocks my view making certain left turns.
2. Headrest is so high and large that looking behind to the right is difficult. Looking behind to the left is impossible.
3. In order to have a clear view the tach and speedometer, the steering wheel needs to be positioned very close to the topmost position. With your hands at the 10-2 position on the steering wheel, you end up blocking the temp and fuel gauges. My hands end up being uncomfortably high.

I still haven't been able to find a comfortable driving position. The headrest tends to push my head forward and I still haven't found a good lumbar setting.

Never had these issues with my 98 Camry. Okay, I'll stop whining.

Position of Side Mirrors: Yes. You are the first person to my knowledge, that has posted about this. I also have a problem seeing around the drivers side mirror, when making a left turn. I've never mentioned this before because of the other (more important) things that have gone wrong. My wife also complains about not being able to see around the mirror. The problem is that the side mirror is either too close to the door, or too far forward on the door. I compared the location of my Genesis mirror with the location of Continental mirror, and with the Continental, there is a gap that I can see through, between the mirror and the door. No gap in the Genesis.

Because I know that the vision is less when making left turns, I move my head more, side to side, and up and down to make sure I can see past the blind spot caused by the mirror.

I'll 3rd that, I used to have 10 minutes in my Explorer, so I could sit and listen to the radio or whatever without running the engine. I suppose I could just turn on the accessory (press the button without hitting the brake) but it is just one thing this is missing (that and a built in radar detector:)) Regardless, I still love this car.

This becomes a bigger problem when you're on a Bluetooth call and either need to leave the engine running or transfer the call back to the handset and back to the car after restarting with accessory. It would have been nice to have delayed power shutdown or the ability (that keyed ignition cars have) to turn off the engine without shutting down the electrical system.

Gee, where do I put my sun glasses? :) I am used to put them up where bluetooth/phone stuff is. According to the manual, that's where there must be a compartment for sun glasses but there is not. There is a place just under the arms-rest but, but...

If you don't have the integrated Bluetooth system (Tech package), then the sunglasses holder is replaced by the BT electronics unit. :(

Damn:mad: That's why!... They never listed sunglass holder in the Tech package

Bluetooth isn't Tech only...

never mind. Misread that.

Pet peeves:

1. It won't let you activate your preselected "favorite seat position" #1 or #2 while the car is in motion.

2. There seems to be no way to delete items in the Previous Destinations list. After a cross-country round trip, our list of now-useless motel and restaurant destinations is quite long.

Neantherthal...your #1 pet peeve. I don't know of any car presently sold in the U.S. that will allow you to activate your "favorite seat position" while the car is in motion.

Pet peeve #2. I don't own a Genesis yet, my Lexus GS350 it's all indicated in the user's manual how to delete Previous Destinations list. Have you checked?

You can, but it's either all or nothing (no way to selectively delete entries):

NAVI > Edit Addr. Book > Delete Previous Dest. > (confirm)

Hope that helps.

Im surprised there is no headlight delay on this vehicle. Also tinted side mirrors (I think this is standard on the v8).

i wish i didn't have to reset the radio channel options every time i restarted the car.

Well, then, Hyundai should be the innovator. We can already manipulate the seat with manual controls while the car is in motion. The "favorite position" action shouldn't be singled out as a no-op under the same conditions.

I saw that but for some reason thought it applied only to those prev. destinations that were also in the address book, and not the ones that were created on the fly (via Point of Interest, for example). I'll try your suggestion, thanks.

If it isn't against a fed safety mandate, then it's protection against law suits.
Just like in my car, Lexus GS350 won't allow you to enter any directions manually into the nav system while in motion. Heck, you can't even enter a telephone number manually into the system either! The car must be stopped before it will allow you to do that!

Agreed, it's a safety thing. You can't fiddle with car settings (locks, seat behavior) via the info menu on the tech package when the car is in motion either. At least you can mess with the GPS and audio to your heart's content when in drive.

I don't think it would be a good idea to allow memory profile settings to be recalled while in motion. What if your spouse (or another household member) is significantly shorter and smaller than you.... you go to recall a memory profile, hit a bump and inadvertently recall the wrong profile? Then you have a problem. I can certainly understand why the automakers don't allow that in this ridiculously litigious society. Besides, why would you recall settings AFTER you start driving anyway? :)

The side mirrors auto dim, like the rear view mirror.

I am looking at the position of the side view mirror and I don't see how to relocate it horizontally.

Interesting issue, others want the driver seat lowered. How many more people would have a blind spot as a result?
