Pet peeves about the Genesis

I am looking at the position of the side view mirror and I don't see how to relocate it horizontally.

Interesting issue, others want the driver seat lowered. How many more people would have a blind spot as a result?

Hyundai should lower the mounting bracket for the side mirrors. Make the bottom of the bracket flush with the window sill and everyone will be happy.

....What if your spouse (or another household member) is significantly shorter and smaller than you.... you go to recall a memory profile, hit a bump and inadvertently recall the wrong profile?

A legitimate reason, and one that explains the apparent inconsistency between disallowing changing favorite position while allowing one to fiddle with the manual seat controls.

....Besides, why would you recall settings AFTER you start driving anyway?

Only because I want that position but have forgotten to invoke it before driving away. But in the interest of safety, I'll work on that memory problem

Maybe, just maybe... my Ford Explorer had a very short turning radius. I cannot make the same maneuver on my street with my Genesis. Wish it was better!

Coming from the Azera and a series of FWD cars before that, I am amazed at how short the turning radius of the Genesis is. I have a tight driveway and the Genesis is a lot easier to get in and out than anything I have owned in years.

Meantherthal - Actually, the first new car I owned with memory seats would allow you to change positions even when the car was moving. That was a 1986 Audi 5000 and it actually had 4 pre-selectable memory buttons. I can't recall any other car I have owned that would allow that. I know The Bimmer I had as well as the present Lexus won't allow it.

On the Audi I had selected 2 positions, one for city driving and 1 for hwy driving. These days our hwys are so crowded I have to use the same "alert" position for both city and hwy.

Given that, just one time, my seat went wild and pinned me to the steering wheel (in my garage, fortunately), I am quite happy to not have the seat presets work while I am driving. It has never happened again, to date, but once was enough. I could not have controlled the car.

I was just wondering something regarding the steering wheel. I have adjusted it to exactly where I like it, so I can see the entire instrument panel, but not be too high where I look like I'm trying to peer over the steering wheel to see (I'm short). Even after adjusting it to where I want it, putting the car in park and pressing the set button, then the #1 button and hearing the beep, the steering wheel will still sometimes go back to a lower position (probably where I set it originally before making some finer adjustments). Can anyone explain why this is happening?

Im pretty sure my Genesis locks it self after a few minutes away. Ive gone back to my car without my fob and tried to open the door and the alarm sounds. Quite annoying when its in my garage... I have not 'tested' this situation and I dont know if this was an normal thing.

I realized this morning that I forgot to lock the car last night. I found this out when I went to press the button on the handle to unlock and it locked all of the doors. So, unless there is a setting somewhere, the doors do not automatically lock.

I think this is correct. The only time the doors lock automatically, with the exception of the auto-lock feature when the car is shifted into gear, is when you unlock the doors using the key fob and then do not open a door. The doors will then automatically re-lock.

Maybe this isn't a pet peeve.... but it sure is annoying to me. I noticed a large screw right in the edge of my driver's side front tire. Obviously can't be repaired...so I go to change the tire only to find a donut (I guess not enough room with the battery back there). Not a biggie, except that noone stocks the Dunlops around me and now the car is laid up waiting for the new tire to come in

Anyway, if the car had a full size spare (like every other car I've owned recently) this would be a non-issue.

Don't you just love that donut? I think a full size spare will fit. I haven't confirmed. But most cars have room for a full spare, but choose to put the mini in to save space and weight. I was thinking about finding a full size spare as I hate those emergency only donuts. It's a killer, since as you have said, nobody stocks the Dunlops. And a full size spare would work fine until you have time to replace the O.E. tire.

Yep, tested it today. No auto-lock...but would be a nice touch.

credit cards may disappear in the seat

I use a credid card size ID to enter a parking lot. After putting it on the passenger seat, I almost lost it; it sank between the the two parts of the seat. Luckily, a friend of mine has small hands.

sorry to get everyones hopes up.. I never tested it myself, but there have been times that I went back to my car later and the doors were locked. Maybe Im just getting old and forgot I previously locked them...

My pet peeve......No "Sport-Shift" mode...The tranny is set-up for fuel milage.....not performance....I would love to have a "sport mode" button to change the shift points to allow the engine to upshift higher up in the rpm range.

My biggest pet peeve would be with an obscure styling point but one I notice every day. In designing the Genesis, it appears the widest point of the body (excluding fenders) occurs where the front and rear doors meet. Though this may make the production of the sheet metal easier, and perhaps cheaper, it creates an optics issue with highlighting and shadows, particularly with a metallic paint like platinum which almost behaves like a pearl it's so luminous. The shade range that this paint produces is gorgeous, but since the plane break occurs at the junction of the two doors, you often get the impression that the rear door paint is off just a shade, particularly in low light (early morning, early evening) and when viewed from an angle, since the width of the car increases right up to the rear edge of the front door, then immediately begins to trail off at the front of the rear door. At first I thought one of my doors had be repainted in the port prior to delivery, but I'm beginning to think it's a design flaw.

Automatic Locking: The Genesis works the same as my wife's 2006 Elantra. If you unlock the doors with the keyfob and don't open any door for 30 seconds, they re-lock themselves. This is a safety feature that assumes you unlocked them by accident. Other than this, the car does not lock itself. Has anyone tried leaving the engine running and walking away with the key? There is a long beep to warn you the key has left the car but I wonder if there is a maximum distance or time before the engine will turn off.
