  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Pictures of the new G70

I'm kinda liking the refreshed design...though the front seems somewhat "mosquito-ish" to me. Still overall, I think it works. The wheels look huge to me - maybe 20s? Anyway, if it comes with the new 3.5L V6 and variable exhaust, then I may consider upgrading. Quad tips would seal the deal, but I've seen nothing to indicate that's in the cards.

Love the new look!

Yeah, I think the wheels look too tall as well, and I don't like their design. The rest looks pretty good IMHO.

Looks less like an Elantra so it's a bonus!

The G70 you sat in felt cheap? I think it’s on par with the competition in terms of material.

Yes the steering wheel seemed fine, I think driving it more, would be what sways one way more then the other. The shifter was terrible, but one person mentioned it could have been for the car show that they replaced it with something from Hyundai's parts bin so it wouldn't go missing at the end of the show.

The biggest gripe though was the 'quilted seats / fabric', and it makes up a large part of the interior. It feels and looks very cheap, and they over done it with the door inserts. As well a more 'bucket' rear bench would have been nice, not a game breaker since I never sit there - the G70 back bench feels like a '2-series' not a '3-series'. I had spent a lot of time in the fantastic Audi S4 super sport seats, for long distances for many years, and even though my wife says my Golf R seats are fine, I am constantly looking for something to replace them with. Even the S3/RS3 super sport seats aren't the greatest.

Regardless, going to lurk here for a bit to see what else comes out from releases as it sounds like there are small other tidbits that are getting changed. Very happy with the exterior and driving, majority of the interior though.

The shifter thing is interesting. That is possible. Some people find the quilted seats too much, I like it. I don’t find the leather cheap. It’s smooth nappa leather (on prestige and sport), which yes will age due to how soft it is, but it’s much higher end than the standard leather available on the competition. Feel free to stick around, where all supportive and even if the G70 is not the one for you, would love to know what you end up getting!

I wasn’t sure if anyone had posted a link to the Car and Driver article with the pictures, so here it is.

I’m not a fan of the styling on the headlights or taillights and don’t even get me started about the wheels...

On the positive side, I do you like that they’ve retained the very workable set up for the driver as well how’s the interior is styled.

The demise of the manual was probably inevitable, how ever if it had been available on the 3.3 T I probably would have strongly considered it although many of the reviews said that the clutch and the shifter were subpar. Although I would’ve enjoyed test driving the G70 with the manual, to form my own opinion they produced so a few of them that it was nearly impossible to find one. Even now, searching on the Genesis website even if you “build“ one it won’t tell you where it is.

We will have to see the car in person, however, for me, I love the 2022 mid-cycle changes and makes this car more unique than the current model. I hope the rear LED turn indicators are amber for the US market and not red. Looks pretty cool from the rear.

Doubt that things will look as good as the CGI renderings based on the spy shots, but maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised.

Front looks weird for me too "soft" and too damn busy with all the grills, vents and now 4 headlights. Gives me mercedes vibes

I'm the opposite. I like the front but dislike the rear... the way the tail lights are placed bothers me. Side profile is killer tho.

With tru here.

At least in the CGI rendering, the front fascia looks more aggressive than either the G80 or GV80 due to the quad headlights being more slanted towards the A pillar and the grille bring pushed forward and not being completely flat (also better proportioned).

The new taillights are positioned a bit awkwardly as one can see that they had to be fitted within the outlines of the old taillights, and the rear is missing one of the signature Genesis design elements, the back curvature (in the G70, still totally flat).

On the inside, the larger nav screen does a good job of making the dash look less outdated, albeit still outdated compared to the dash in the new G80.

The biggest gripe though was the 'quilted seats / fabric', and it makes up a large part of the interior. It feels and looks very cheap, and they over done it with the door inserts.

The "quilts" in the G70 don't seem as premium as what's in the GV80, being a lot flatter and having a simpler pattern (also, less is more).

Would also say doesn't look as premium as the new quilted seats in the KDM Stinger, as well as the Palisade (the quilted door inserts in the Palisade look better).

Kind of looks like the love child of a Volvo S60 and the Infiniti Q50 (or whatever they call it these days). Not terrible, but I think the current style is a bit more aggressive.

Agreed. I get that they want to have a brand identity (or to use the popular current phrase, Design language), but the tendency is to make the car models all look the same, like the BMW 3, 5, 7 series. Just like sausages, small medium and large.
Well, the executive ranks are rife with Germans, and it looks like they are taking the Audi approach - eg, one sausage, 3 sizes.

Just tint the lens and you will not see the 4 individual projectors. LOL. Incredible how small they are making LEd headlights these days and have them still get the IIHS Safety pick + rating.
I have noticed where most vehicles fall down in the IIHS ratings is the headlight cutoff on lows, and the beam pattern. Most are more than bright enough, but they cut off way to soon, the cutoff is too extreme and not feathered, and the beam patterns are wonky and leave dark patches here, but too bright over here, not bright enough on the right side to illuminate a corner, etc. Cuttoff and pattern.

Except for light trucks. They just glare everybody excessively and blind you, especially the Silverado.

I hear that too - some folks say the interior is cheap comparatively, and I am like, what, you people are crazy. Yeah, Merc and Audi very nice, better than G70, but go sit in a BMW 3, a Lexus equiv, an Alfa, a Charger, a Challenger, or any of the big 6 family sedans sporty trim. Please. Our materials are very nice, so much real metal and aluminum. I mean, come on, we were one of the Ward's 10 Best for 2019 awards / listing. I just don't understand what people are wanting, or what they expect out of this car? I feel the bias is strong.

I think what people are getting at is that it “looks cheap.” Because it was designed to be intuitive and ergonomic and not technologically marveling lol. I don’t even think Audi and Benz have better materials/quality in the segment. Benz with its 90% black piano plastic (80% if you option the wood?) that rattles and creaks like crazy. I drove a C63s for a week and could not stand the interior rattles. The interior of the G70 feels much more solid in comparison. (I am not saying we do not have rattles.) Audi again has that minimal look that some find better looking.
The rest? Garbage. Have any of you sat in a Giulia? Any Acura? Some people need to get passed the logo on the hood. I bet if that G70 had a BMW or Benz logo some would be marveling about how it has the best interior in the segment.

An Alfa Giulia Lusso is much nicer inside for the same price. It's a trade-off for technology vs luxury.

There is a difference between fancy looks and cheap materials. The G70 most certainly has high quality materials but doesn't look as fancy as some other interiors. It's kind of like fad colors vs plain colors. Right now the fad colors look great but in 5-10 years, they will look over the top while the plain colors will look classic.

When I test drove the Giulia, it felt like a glitzy Mitsubishi interior to me..

I don’t know about that, I can’t stand any of the switches and buttons in the Giulia. You immediately feel how cheap and flimsy they are. Don’t get me wrong, it does have the driving dynamics but the G70 interior is of higher quality in my opinion.

I had both. The leather, wood, plastics were nicer in the Lusso to me. Can't beat that leather dash in creama....
