So. Been a few weeks since I checked in. To say things haven't gone well, is an understatement. Was driving to work a couple weeks ago. Sun was shining, music playing and all seemed good with my world. About 4 miles from my house, whiled driving 20MPH, I thought I saw some smoke coming from the back of my car. Then all of the sudden a LOT OF SMOKE was coming out and the oil light immediately lit on the dash. Pulled into an apartment parking lot (the first place I could get off the road), and got out of my car to look underneath and oil wasn't just dripping out of the engine, it was pouring out. So, I shut the engine and called Genesis roadside assistance, who got a flatbed tow scheduled and had to sit in the parking lot for about an hour and a half till the guy who spoke not one of English arrived (but he was at least nice and competent) to be towed to the dealer. I contacted my dealer who asked me to come with the tow truck to the dealer.
They pushed my car onto a lift and the Genesis Lead started looking into what happened and then he came and brought me into the garage to say the main seal between the engine and transmission blew, which is something they'd never seen, nor had parts to fix. And to fix it, they have to pull the engine from my car, install the seal (which they said was clearly not installed correctly when the car was built), then test the car to see if any damage was caused.
The part arrived Friday and my car is in the garage having its engine removed as I type. But I'm not sure whether I'll take the car back. I have a ticket open with a Case Manager at Genesis who is the same Case Manager I worked with on my first GV70 and I have asked the dealer what they intend to do to make this right as well. No car should have a catastrophic failure at only 858 miles, 4 weeks from purchase.
I'm just gutted over this. I don't honestly know how I can trust the car or honestly, the brand. Our other GV70 continues to be stellar, so I know it's possible to get a good one. But I'm 0 for 2 here and my confidence level is simply gone. At least I'm driving around in a G70, but it's not the car I'm paying for. Such an unfortunate and sad thing to have happen, tbh.
I am seriously looking at the brand new, soon to hit dealer showrooms Mazda CX70. It looks awesome and I know Mazda cars are at least reliable.
