If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yes, but schedule an appointment at your dealership soonest you can.
What happens beyond the warning. Is the GV subject to shutting down/getting stuck. Thanks

I can't answer your question. You should be discussing this with your dealer, not asking us what happens. If they have the parts required in stock, this isn't a big deal and your car may be in and out in a day. But if the don't have the parts, you could be in a loaner for a while.

Bottom line, stop asking us users and start discussing this with your dealer.

Hi. Please trust I know it has to go in. I'm dumb but not stupid. I'm currently in Fl and going to Pa on June 1 for 5 months. The GV stays stored in Florida until then. I cannot take the chance of taking it in and it gets tied up in the shop. I might have to wait until I return to address it. I was interested in owners experiences and resolution.
I did call 2 local shops. One did not answer and the other left me on me on hold until I fell asleep. The 3rd can see me on the 22 but that does not work out. I love the GV70 3.5 and realize things happen...but the service is the pits and not conveniently located for me...... was curious if anyone got shipwrecked...Thats all.

My dealer told me no one they service has been stranded by LSD issues. But personally, I wouldn't drive a long distance with the light on my dash.

Gotcha on the long distance. It’s only for local runs. We have a second car. I’ll address this in the Fall with a loaner lined up. I’m not getting any whining or noise just a check LSD. Anyway thanks for your replies. I needed a mindset on this. Good for now.👍

Glad you got what you needed and good luck.

Have to admit I'm getting excited. My dealer just got my car in and sent me these pics:

So. Been a few weeks since I checked in. To say things haven't gone well, is an understatement. Was driving to work a couple weeks ago. Sun was shining, music playing and all seemed good with my world. About 4 miles from my house, whiled driving 20MPH, I thought I saw some smoke coming from the back of my car. Then all of the sudden a LOT OF SMOKE was coming out and the oil light immediately lit on the dash. Pulled into an apartment parking lot (the first place I could get off the road), and got out of my car to look underneath and oil wasn't just dripping out of the engine, it was pouring out. So, I shut the engine and called Genesis roadside assistance, who got a flatbed tow scheduled and had to sit in the parking lot for about an hour and a half till the guy who spoke not one of English arrived (but he was at least nice and competent) to be towed to the dealer. I contacted my dealer who asked me to come with the tow truck to the dealer.

They pushed my car onto a lift and the Genesis Lead started looking into what happened and then he came and brought me into the garage to say the main seal between the engine and transmission blew, which is something they'd never seen, nor had parts to fix. And to fix it, they have to pull the engine from my car, install the seal (which they said was clearly not installed correctly when the car was built), then test the car to see if any damage was caused.

The part arrived Friday and my car is in the garage having its engine removed as I type. But I'm not sure whether I'll take the car back. I have a ticket open with a Case Manager at Genesis who is the same Case Manager I worked with on my first GV70 and I have asked the dealer what they intend to do to make this right as well. No car should have a catastrophic failure at only 858 miles, 4 weeks from purchase.

I'm just gutted over this. I don't honestly know how I can trust the car or honestly, the brand. Our other GV70 continues to be stellar, so I know it's possible to get a good one. But I'm 0 for 2 here and my confidence level is simply gone. At least I'm driving around in a G70, but it's not the car I'm paying for. Such an unfortunate and sad thing to have happen, tbh.

I am seriously looking at the brand new, soon to hit dealer showrooms Mazda CX70. It looks awesome and I know Mazda cars are at least reliable.

Wow. This stinks. It’s such a beautiful ride until. Time to bail. Sorry to hear this.

I think it is time to bail, sadly.

Since writing my post this afternoon, my service advisor called to say my situation got Genesis in Korea's attention. Supposedly a team of engineers from Korea will be visiting my car tomorrow. They told the engineers here, NOT to fix the car as the engine is out of it now and they want to see what happened. Still doesn't give me warm and fuzzy feelings, but will be interested to hear what the Engineers from Korea have to say.

This whole things sucks for lack of a better word. I had such high hopes for Genesis and GV70............

I was concerned with reliability and service before we bought ours.... Said to my wife if reliability is a concern it goes. .... regardless of mileage. Let's see how your plays out.
A new replacement would be a good bandaid for you.

I got one for you... Wife bought a 2024 NX350 Luxury last July. The front windshield cracked ..could not get a factory windshield to replace it. It has to be OEM. Long story shortened. It has 1400m. It's getting traded. Lexus is no bargain. Parts are not readily available. And service can be as bad as Genesis.

Best all around for service, reliability has been Macan and BMW. And it hurts to day that... The Genesis is absolutely a beautiful vehicle inside and out...love the performance and safety features.

I'm not sure ANY brand is a bargain anymore. Our best friends have a Mercedes E450 AMG Cabriolet. It's spent more time in the dealer, than in their garage, and in Florida, you can't lemon law a car which is more than 2 years old. They'll be trading it in for something else soon. My boss has a Land Rover and it's been a nightmare. One of the other bosses has Mercedes EQS and it too hasn't been a great car. A simple update, which should be over the air, can require the car to sit at the dealer for a week or more.

I got an update on my car this afternoon. AND IT WASN'T GOOD. The engineers from Korea spent a few hours with the engine which is now sitting on a table outside my car. What they discovered is that during the manufacture, a random bolt, somehow got deposited into the cam shaft area (not attached to anything of course) and it finally worked its way into the camshaft, which got chewed up and ultimately sent it flying into the plug which keeps the oil flowing in the engine and it destroyed the engine. It can't be fixed. And they thought I'd be happy to hear, they're going to have to replace the engine. I just lost it at that point. I mean, REALLY? I just got the car and it doesn't even have 1K miles on it and I'm supposed to accept a manufacturing defect so heinous it destroyed the engine?

I demanded to speak with the Sales Manager, who's a decent fellow, tbh. He was aware and knew I'd be calling. He said he believes Genesis should replace my car with a brand new one. They're going to pursue that with Genesis Corporate and he said he should have an answer by Friday afternoon. If they agree to give me a new car (without me having to spend ANY MONEY), I'll accept it. But if they say I have to wait for the car to get a new engine, which they have no clue how long it will take, that's not an option I'm willing to accept.

This has been beyond stressful. To get two cars in less than 2 years, which were unreliable is just a lot to take. I'd be taking a chance that a third GV70 wouldn't be a disaster, but honestly, how unlucky can a guy be?

Hi RBrylawski,

Man, I'm sorry to hear of your ordeal. I was happy for you when you got the new red GV70 and never would think lightning to strike twice in such short time. I think you absolutely should be compensated with a NEW vehicle. It was good that Korean engineers came and all but that's for their benefit to figure out what went wrong. They need to make it right with you, the customer. I thought I had it bad by having to replace rear diff twice! Anyway I'm about 2 or 3 months into the second replacement diff and I'm going to keep crossing my fingers after hearing your story. Let us know the outcome. I agree it really diminishes your trust in this brand. I too like the vehicle (also lusting after the new GV80 coupe) and I so want them to succeed and develop into a reliable trustworthy brand.

Thank you Newfan. I am just so disappointed in Genesis at this point. If they offer to replace my car, I'll accept it. If they don't, I only have to wait till June 9th (I'm quite sure, they can't get an entire new engine and get it installed by then) and I'll immediately file the Lemon Law paperwork. In the state of Florida, a car which is out of service at the dealer for 30 CUMULATIVE days, is immediately a lemon and Genesis would have to give me my money back. If they don't give me a replacement car and they force me to take my car back with a new engine, I'll pick it up and I don't care what it might cost, but it will be driven to whatever dealer of whatever brand I've decided to and it will traded. Bottom line is I won't have the red GV70 I was so excited about.

I'll keep my fingers crossed your second LSD is the charm.

Hey sorry to hear this... A new car off the trailer or lot would be in order... Not a demo. Start looking into lawyers... have things lined up. You deserve immediate attention...

Thanks. I think I deserve immediate attention. It remains to be seen whether I'll get it or not. Either they try to keep me as a customer or they lose two customers (we own two GV70). If end up getting a car from a different manufacturer, we'll trade the other GV70 in on something else as we've lost confidence in the brand at this point.

I'll make sure I have my ducks in a row if this goes further south.

Mine goes into the service department May 30 for the LSdiff replacement, prompted to hearing it softly whine at all speeds. Service manager understood my complaint and quickly had his parts department get the order in. Waited 2 weeks or so for them to all arrive. I have roughly 3500 miles on the odometer. No warning light ever presented. Whistling whine is seemingly getting louder or maybe I'm imagining that since I'm focused on it. But your experience is just dumbfounding!
I'm hoping and praying for an excellent result and no issues going forward, needless to say. I'm in Ocala, Florida and Jenkins might have their brand new Genesis dealership opened the same day I bring it in. They have been servicing my GV70 at their Hyundai location across the street. My experience with them has been excellent. Bought the car from Jenkins in Leesburg, Florida, South of Ocala.

I hope your LSD goes smoothly and you don't have to have it done a 2nd time, like I did on my first GV70. My dealer is excellent, so no complaints with them and their freestanding Genesis store opens soon. Not sure I'll still be a Genesis customer when it does though, which is sad........

Thanks for the support. If the new one does not perform silently, I'll certainly be of the same mindset as you.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. I've been researching what may be next for me and while bigger than the GV70, the new Mazda CX70, which are heading to dealer showrooms as I type (still none available in Tampa, yet), may well be by next ride. Check out some videos on YouTube on test drives, which started appearing this week.

If I get one, for me, it will be the CX70 Turbo S Premium Inline 6 with mild hybrid. Fully loaded, it's $58,000. Napa Leather and every goody one could want including a pretty amazing interior. And Consumer Reports ranks Mazda as the 4th most reliable brand sold in America. Right now, I just want a car which is R E L I A B L E!

I'm not a fan of Mazda, primarily due to the fact that they do not have independent rear suspensions. Maybe the CX70 Turbo Premium does. I lean on advice from "The Car Nut" on YouTube video. He's an honest mechanic, does not hesitate to point out weaknesses and strengths of makes and models. I traded my Acura RDX that was loaded for this GV70, mainly because of the touchpad and it was 3 years old. Was an Audi aficionado for years before that. Traded those every three years for another Audi, usually a Q5. LOVED my TDI. Don't know what I'll get if this Genesis conundrum isn't satisfactory. With the traffic here, I'd buy an Abrams if they'd allow it.
