  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I called Concierge and described the horror story, who then opened a case for me, after which a case manager was assigned and I formally said the ONLY solution I would accept given my brand new, one month old car had the engine blow (due to Genesis admitting a robot deposited an extra bolt in the transfer case, which eventually - at 780 miles - blew threw the engine destroying, the engine, crank case and transmission) was a buyback or I'd Lemon Law the car - Their Choice. The car has been at the dealership going on two months now. They told me yesterday, they had the parts to build a new engine, but puhleeze, Genesis couldn't even send a complete engine to the dealer. They sent what is essentially all the parts to build an engine from pieces. Simply not something I'm willing to accept. Not to mention, when a car is built, the engine is coded to the VIN, so replacing the engine has to be tracked, devaluing the car.

Agreed. Who knows what kind of damage that bolt and parts did to the block etc. I had a case opened with Concierge after my second LSD replacement about inquiring into Lemon Law protection. I updated it with this third incident. May pursue a buyback as well. Thanks for the info.

Good luck with whatever direction you go. Such a shame as I actually loved the GV70. Loved it enough to take a financial hit after the first one was at the dealership for 30 days for its second eLSD, so I traded it for the '24, which was an even worse scenario.

As an addendum, I just returned from the brand new Genesis dealership here in Ocala, Fl. This was their first day of opening, only the General Manager and Service Manager and a few sales folks there when I arrived early this morning It's a beautiful facility and stand-alone, not shared with Hyundai. The service manager spent a little time with me and I commended him on the good results from my newly transplanted LSD, only 400 miles on it. I mentioned others have had problems with their second one and was hoping that will not be the case with mine. He said that there was a different part number on my replacement unit than the original one, which leads him to believe that Genesis has solved the problem.
Only time will tell.

I hope in your case, it will be fixed, never to return. If all I had was an eLSD issue, I might be willing to hang in there. A blown engine at 780 miles however, and I'm not remotely willing to accept a replacement engine, transmission and crank case.

Keep an eye (ear more appropriately) on it however. It takes more than 400 miles for the metal to start to break apart in the eLSD module. My second one, went quicker than the first though, at just a little over 2K miles. And my service advisor commented that some never have this issue, but those who do, often have it happen multiple times.

For me, this issue just came up yesterday with the warning message regarding the rear diff. I have owned the car 1 year (bought it used). It is a GV70 3.5 AWD Sport. It has about 33,000 miles on it. I found the TSB and downloaded it. Taking the car in next week on Friday. We'll see.

2024 GENESIS GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige with 2,800 miles.

Just diagnosed today with electronic rear differential issue.

Took the car in for the two recalls: transmission wiring harness wire and, replacing the steering wheel buttons on the left side of the steering wheel. They had the parts in stock and everything went smoothly.

I asked them to check the ELSD while they had the car because on a couple occasions I heard the tell tale whine at around 45 - 50 MPH.

Good news is the service department was able to replicate the problem. They have ordered an entire new replacement ELSD which should arrive in a week or two.

I checked and the new ELSD is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PART NUMBER. So Lord willing that will permanently take care of the problem.

The service department at Autofair GENESIS in Manchester, NH did an outstanding job servicing my GV70 and they bent over backwards to fix the recall issues, diagnose the ELSD, and order the new replacement.

Very satisfied.

I was told the same thing when I had my first replacement...now on my second replacement. :(

On my second replacement with 26K on my 23 GV70, they initially told me afteronly 2 months and 1k miles on the first replacement when i heard this chirping constant sound from rear and a vibration at 60mph that nothing was wrong, i went for a test drive with the lead tech and he could her a faint sound with the worring, but for sure that constant chirping sound you cant help but hear and the vibration on the hwy. So now they have it back we shall see what we get out of this repair but i am like this is it, if this doesn't work I will be trading this car.

When they inspected my rear differential assembly, they noticed two bearings showing wear which was unusual and replaced those. That might be part of your vibration issue. So far, with 4490 miles on the odometer, all is normal, smooth and quiet. You might mention the bearings to your service manager before they reassemble.

I am getting my fourth installed shortly.

Are you no longer eligible to Lemon Law the car? You should have done so after the 3rd. I wouldn't accept a 4th, unless you are no longer able to use Lemon Law. And if I had to have a 4th eLSD installed, the moment it was back in my possession, I'd get rid if it.

First - correction. It will be the third. The first time was an attempted repair.

Second - in Canada we don't have the Lemon Law. We have a different program that essentially is a buy back. If you qualify for it. The issue is that the buy back takes depreciation into account so I would be selling at a loss and therefore forced to pay the remainder of the loan on top of the cost of a new vehicle. That doesn't work for me.

Third - it is under warranty and even after the warranty is up they will still need to keep replacing it - forever.

It is a very minor upset to my day. Might be a different story if we didn't get loaners while service was being completed.

As long as you're OK having this replaced multiple times, I get it. My first GV70, a 2023, had to have the eLSD replaced twice. I ended up trading it on a 2024, which if you're read my posts, the engine blew at 850 miles and I'm in the final stages of a buyback now. To say it's a painful process with Genesis is a gross mis-understatement. We had another 2023 GV70, but we dumped it for a Mazda CX70 as we don't want to have ANYTHING to do with Genesis after the issues we've been through.

So my GV70 saga begins, 2024 Sports Prestige 2.5 with 2000 miles. Took it in this morning for the “ whinning” differential and was told they would tighten the “locking nut” first, following the Genesis protocol, and replace differential later if the locking nut fix didn’t work.

Ok, that’s the plan. My SA calls at 1:00 to explain that when they dropped the body pan there was grease and oil all over the place…….the TC has broken. Never had any indication. So now we’re getting a new TC.

So hopefully, when I get the vehicle back with the new TC and “tightened” locking nut my problem will be solved…or at least until it has to go back to have the differential replaced when the “fix” didn’t work. At least they gave use a nice 3.5 GV70 as a loaner.

Hoping these two fixes solve the problems as we really like the GV70.

I hope this works out for you. For me, owning a Genesis has been a disaster. Today, they picked up the loaner we've driven now for close to 3 months, since my 2024 blew it's engine at 850 miles and they've agreed to buy it back. I don't have the money yet, that's yet another amazingly slow and beyond painful process, but tomorrow we'll be a two Mazda, family, with a 2025 CX70 Turbo S Premium Plus (mine) and a 2024 CX50 Turbo S Premium Plus (my husbands who wants a car similarly sized to the GV70, which the CX50 is). As far as I'm concerned, Genesis simply isn't ready for prime time.

Wishing you luck, but I have a strong suspicion you'll ultimately be having the eLSD replaced. Did you also notice that when first starting the car and driving, you had a vibration at 42 MPH before the engine reached operating temperature? If you did, the damage has likely already been done.

I read about your situation and that has to be really frustrating. Good that you are getting your money back. I’ve had plenty of experience with “bad” vehicles having had 2 replaced with “lemon law” and another 3 (yes 3) , replaced by the dealer for various situations they created. I do not want to go through that again with the GV70 which we really like.

Regarding the vibration at around 40, yes I have sensed it but didn’t associate it with the differential until I joined this forum and started reading posts like yours. I’m pretty sure a new differential is in our future.

Good luck with your Genesis adventure. I’m

I have had 2 diffs replaced on my '23. I want to keep this another 10 years. I am pushing them to extend the warranty coverage for the diff to lifetime for the original owner. Hyundai has done this with other vehicles...

Thanks and fingers crossed what they do solves your issue. I really liked the GV70. But having an engine blow from their own manufacturing error, was the straw that broke the Camel's back for us.
