I'd definitely start with the higher trade-in value. (Which give you closer to the cushion Beefer mentioned.) You don't have to tell them about CarMax. Worst case scenario, you pull the "trade-in" and take it to Car Max for the cash.thanks guys. The dealer said it was NOT on the list but thought it would be. Not sure if they lied to keep the 1000 or just did not know. Yep, did the car max think already, but thanks. This is the deal I am think of offering the dealership...please let me know if you think is fair....
G70 2.2 awd is 36900
so price of car is 41900 but lets say 42000
add a 500 doc fee (they want 700) so 42500 now
take 1000 of MSRP and another thousand for conquest so 2000 off
so now at 40500
take 9000 off for trade in - kbb says 10500 and CarMax says 9000 so giving them CarMax price
total cost minus tax 31500
Make them negoitate off of the KBB trade-in.
But, frankly, you don't have to outline the specific. You can say willing to pay $__ [out-of-pocket money] + the trade-in for the car;
