I installed a Passport 9500 ci some months ago, and though the location of the front laser detectors was not optimal, see photo, I though I'd share my general observations, to date.

I've ended up recently turning off X band completely on this thing. So far I have not found any Calif law enforcement using X band.
Despite the low and narrow positioning of the front laser detectors, I have to admit that this gadget picks up K and KA band from quite a distance away, front on detection. So far it seems that if a patrol car is on the opposite side of the freeway, it will get a signal from 1 to 1 ½ miles away, very consistently.
Tthough I have not had many alerts from 'rear' detections of KA band, so I can't really judge any distance there, I've had quite a lot of Highway patrol K band from the rear, and that distance too seems in the mile or so range. I know well ahead of time that a patrol is close by, and with enough time, if I were past the speed limit, to make a correction.
On occasion I will get a POP alert, which are so quick in duration that by the time the gadget notifies me, it is gone. I haven't been able to tell where the patrol or stationary car is during any of the pop alerts yet.
The self learn mode is great and a no brain’er. I have not used the jamming shifter at all. I don't speed so this is really a toy.
With the use to date I've become accustomed to where the patrols normally drive patrol or station their vehicles. Virtually every day I drive I see a number of folks receiving tickets in those use areas, and often the patrol cars come from the off-ramps and speed by me to grab onto someone. When the gadget lights up, with a patrol car on my side of the highway, it has been almost 100% predictable of someone ahead of me getting a ticket.
The 9500 comes with a stop light/GPS ticket setup. To date it has often alerted me of those locations where before I had not paid attention and did not know the intersection was camera ticket enforced.
Updating this thing is actually very easy. Once it is installed, it just takes a USB cable and PC/laptop to connect and obtain the newest updates. Only takes 5 minutes to get the panel lowered, hook up the 9500, update and close things up.
Seems to me that this 9500 works as advertised, which is great. All in all I like it. I do wish it had the Valentine 1 visual notification thing where you can tell front, rear and side detection locations, and would gradually decrease the alarm volume, rather than just take it's (one) step down in volume.
