  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Power mirror gear. Anyone?

I see the review, encouraging. Cheaper than Ebay. Appreciate your time.

No problem. Good luck. Report back if it works please.

Part worked perfectly. Dropped right in, no issues!

Hey Barry. Any possible way to get a walk through on getting to that gear. My driver side did that a few months back but I never got around to trying to get to the gear. Thanks in advance.

Quick edit. Which gear did you end up using in the end as well?

I used this tutorial as a start. Once you start to get inside, it becomes pretty obvious. You will disassemble everything. Take your time. Took me about 30 mins to totally disassemble the first time. Now I can do it in 5! Lol. Unplugging wires make it much easier as well. All are spring latched.

I used the part from Amazon in post 17. So far so good.

Is this doable with the mirror still on the car or is it easier to remove the entire assembly?

No, you MUST remove from car. You’ll need the slack in the wire harness to disassemble. Taking off car is the easiest part. 60 seconds. Pull cover trim from door on inside. Just grip and tug. Only 1 retainer at end that will pop off. Unplug harness, three 10mm nuts holding mirror to door, and it’s off. So much easier off the car to get fingers inside and much less likely to scratch things up.

Just thought I would update this thread a year later and say everything is still working fine.

Greetings all! My 2012 r-spec passenger mirror has decided to stop power folding and just clicks away. I disassembled the mirror and found the problem The plastic gear(on a metal shaft) had stripped out and cracked. Causing the shaft to just spin away. I tried epoxying the whole this as one piece, worked about a dozen times then just split again. So question is; does anyone know where I can get a replacement gear. Prefer just the plastic part but whole thing if necessary. Dealers have zero clue to what I'm talking about. One even told me I don't have power folding mirrors until I made him come out and see. I found a similar looking one on Ebay for a Hyundai I30, but I don't know if it's truly the same. Thanks for any help. Picture of the whole part attached.View attachment 17851
Hi there! Were you ever able to find the right part? I had no idea that you could take the mirror apart. This happened to my passenger side mirror first. Bought the whole mirror and had it painted. Super expensive! Now my drivers side did the same thing! SMH

Sorry I read further along in the thread and just ordered the parts! Wish I would’ve known this before I bought the last one but my mechanic said you can’t take the mirror apart

Time for a new mechanic. Have fun with it. Pretty easy. Mine still works perfectly.

The link for the video to take the mirror apart is gone. Do you remember where you found that. I checked you tube but what I saw was kinda janky! Thx in advance! Got the part just need the time to get into the project now.
