  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My Power trunk seems to work intermittantly, sometime when you stand there and sometimes it won't move. Also the inside switch, the same thing. The only sure way to open it is manually pressing the switch in the middle.

I think it has to do with the second button .. the lock button, but I can't figure out what it is for or what it's supposed to do. Can someone explain it to me? The switch on the left both opens and closes the trunk, the lock switch on the right will also close it, what else does it do?

Where is your fob? If the fob is in the same pocket as your smart phone this will interfere with the signal sometimes and it will not work.

The "Lock" button will also lock all of the doors and close the trunk if you have the fob with you, but I don't quite get what other "failures" you're experiencing. Can you explain a little further?

It is supposed to open in 3 seconds if you stand behind the trunk with the fob with you. Sometimes that feature won't work. The switch on the dashboard .. it also sometimes opens the trunk, other times when you push it, nothing happens. The switch in the middle of the deck lid outside is the only sure way of getting the trunk open every time.

A lot of people have been confused by this feature, even in reviews I've seen. One of the requirements of the auto trunk opening is that the fob has to have been away from the locked car for a small period of time. For instance - you can't get out of the car, lock it, and just walk to the rear expecting the trunk to open. You have to have been out of range for a bit before you reapproach. Does this match the glitches you're seeing?

15 seconds should have passed since car is locked and fob out of range for it to work, when you come and stand behind it.

Here is the instructions from the manual. Hope this helps.

In case you didn't know, it also has to be locked for the smart trunk function.

As always Alwaysforward a GREAT response. :o

Based on the help I got from the terrific people on our forum I will add that you can LOCK the car four ways: from the FOB, from the button on the OUTSIDE door handle, from the LOCK button inside the trunk AND from the button INSIDE the car on the door.

If you use the INSIDE button it will NOT "arm" the trunk and then the trunk will not auto-open. In short (too late ;) ) you must LOCK it from FOB, outside door or trunk to have it armed and ready to auto-open.

This may NOT be responsive or, if you think on it, may be what you've done when it doesn't work.

A helpful hint I found is that the outside mirrors are connected to the arming mechanism or part of the circuit or something, and if the mirrors do NOT flash yellow on them and swing closed when you've "locked" the car, you'll find the trunk won't auto-open when you approach FOB in hand, pocket, bag, etc.

Allisondbl: THANK YOU!!!! This explains it. Now I understand why it sometimes works and other times it doesn't.

Yes you did allisondbl I did not know that either. Thanks for sharing.

The interior trunk button needs to be double pressed to open the trunk. It can also close the trunk but you have to hold it down and dont let go until its closed. Its stupid; most people will run around to the back and **** that button

Is the key fob supposed to always open the trunk? On mine, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. For example, if I park the car, leave it running, run in the house to grab a package and return to the car, the key fob will not open the trunk. I then have to put down the package and use the button inside on the dash.

Thanks, but I am not asking about the smart trunk. I am talking about physically pushing the trunk button on the key fob.

It should work all the time however since I do not carry a fob I either let the smart trunk do it's thing or push the button on the trunk. Have you tried the button on the trunk as opposed to the dash? Regardless, the fob should work IF the car is unlocked.

I figured it out. I pushed the lock button in the truck and now it always works.
