  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Long story short, I'm tired of having to go to a shop to swap wheels. I want to do this myself but I havent tried since my first attempt(400 dollars and a few new thread lugs later

My other cars have the exposed threads I can just sit the wheel on and the put on the bolt

this car isnt like that so what is the correct way of going about this

Here is a rough outline of how to do it. The most important thing is to make sure you have the car secured at all times so it can't roll or fall on you or the ground. Aso, start each nut by hand to make sure it is not cross threaded before using a wrench.

1. Get a decent lug wrench, a hydraulic floor jack, wheel chocks, jack stands, a torque wrench, extension, and socket to fit. This job will be difficult and dangerous if you try to use the Hyundai-supplied tools.
2. Park on a level, paved surface. Do not attempt this on a slope!
3. Set emergency brake and ensure car is in park. Chock wheels on the opposite corner from where you are working.
4. Loosen the lug nuts 1/4 - 1/2 turn or so on one wheel before jacking.
5. Using the jack points specified, jack that corner of the car up till the tire leaves the ground. Support the lift with a jack stand.
6. Remove the nuts the rest of the way, keep them.
7. Slide the wheel off of the lugs.
8. Lift new wheel into place and slide it on. Put on lug nuts as far as possible with the wheel in the air.
9. Remove jack stand and lower jack until the tire is in firm contact with the ground.
10. Torque the lug nuts to what is specified in your manual. Tighten them in a circular pattern skipping over a lug each time till all are tight (1-3-5-2-4).
11. Remove jack. Check again that all lugs are tight!

Repeat 3 more times.

I got scared where you "sit the wheels on an put on a bolt".

It's a nut, good sir.

Pay the money.

My car came with Continental tires so since these are a staggered setup are they rotated side to side?

umm screw it,risk is too high, guess hyundai will keep getting the 50 dollars from me every 6 months

Discount Tires charge me $25 for changing 4 wheels summer to winter and vice versa.

Put my summer rims on yesterday for the first time. It took about 20 minutes with no issues.

The only problem I ran into was finding a center jack point in the front. There's a spot in the rear that works but none in the front (without removing the panels) so I used the points under the rocker panels instead.

I suspect rotating the tires would be a little more work if you don't have a second set for winter/summers.
