Been here awhile...
I came out of a Jaguar XJ8 to the Genesis 4.6 couldn't be more pleased
Buy one!
I like mine a lot.
The part of the "prestige issue" that would likely be most important (to an engineer) is the resale value. Given all the strong/positive reviews and early market indications, Genesis reseale values are looking good.
You know, it turns out that resale becomes pretty secondary for us since we tend to keep cars a long time (shortest ownership was about 7 years while longest was 14). Frankly, I was surprised/disappointed to see average Autotrader prices of only about $6,000 to $7,000 for 2000 Acura TL's. Back in 2000 I sold my 1990 Maxima to a private party for $6,000 which implies that the resale of the Maxima was better than the Acura, particularly adjusting for inflation. Of course the typical mileage on the Acura's I saw at Autotrader was 120,000 or more while the one that I will be trying to sell is 80,000.
Frankly, I see little risk in going for the Genesis since it comes with a 100,000 mile/10 year warranty. Also, it looks like Hyundai is pretty committed to making a name in the US market so I expect that there will be plenty of dealerships/mechanics in my local area to service the vehicle.

I agree - I'd like to hear an explanation. You are posting mixed and confusing sentiments here. "You are what you drive."
WTF does that mean?

I wonder why anybody would give a dead rat's a$$ what kind of car somebody else drives. I can see getting excited (or whatever) about your own car, but somebody else's?? Is there something in the water out there?Correctomundo! I really wasn't trying to conflict or confuse anyone but just responding to some observation in a previous post about why one would buy a particular car. It is pretty much a fact of life here in car-centric LA that folks pay particular attention to what you drive.

I see no outrage, just idle bemusement. What car you drive is a matter of choice - if you want, and can afford, something a little more upscale than a Yugo or more attractive than a bug, or more powerful than a Smart, then why not?I see there are those here who are shocked! shocked! about folks who notice what other people drive. Then why worry about what you yourself drive? Really, the purpose of a car is to get you from A to B and a basic Toyota Camry or basic Honda Accord will do that just fine for about $10,000 less than the Genesis. So why the faux outrage about why anyone would worry about what others drive when those of you who seem outraged obviously opted to spend the extra $10K on the Genesis for what logical reason?

You need to do some serious shopping for cars. Feature for feature, the Genesis is on the winning side of your $10,000 benchmark. You might be trolling here, and thus I will no longer respond to your posts.
