  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I agree that the Korean version wing badges look better than the American H badges. I am curious as to since the badge looks like a Bentley, are you worried that more people might want to break into/steal/carjack/etc. the car thinking it is a Bentley and not a Hyundai?

I realize this might sound like an odd question.

Who knows what motivates carjackers/thieves? Here are the 10 most stolen vehicles as reported by the NICB — the number in parentheses is the model year most stolen:

Honda Civic (1995)
Honda Accord (1991)
Toyota Camry (1989)
Ford F-150 (1997)
Chevrolet C/K 1500 (1994)
Acura Integra (1994)
Dodge Ram Pickup (2004)
Nissan Sentra (1994)
Toyota Pickup (1988)
Toyota Corolla (2007)

I would think that most any car could be a carjacking target.

Haven't thought about that really.
Carjackers are very knowledgeable when it comes to jacking their targets(bypassing theft deterrent systems).
Since Genesis isn't a popular car, my guess is there aren't much information on how to jack one.
Of course there isn't much you can do when they decide to use a tow truck.

Just make sure you have a good replacement insurance policy and you can upgrade to a new Genesis. I have a three year full replacement policy so if the car is stolen or written off I will get a new car. Not bad eh, just think you can get rid of that 2009 rough ride issue. haha Or the 2011 8 speed trany.

The popularity of the car and the cost of OEM parts and expensive options is the most important factor for car thieves. A popular car, with expensive parts, makes for a very lucrative car for a chop shop.

Car jacking is a little different, as sometimes the thieves are after what is in the car or what they can get from the person in the car. Therefore it is also more dangerous. A more expensive looking car is a more likely target than a beater because the thief expects better goodies.

Here are some anti-carjacking tips.

1. Protect Yourself from Carjacking by Locking All Doors When You're in the Car

2. Protect Yourself from Carjacking by Keeping All Windows Up and Clean.

3. Protect Yourself from Carjacking by Keeping Your Purse Out of Sight.

4. Protect Yourself from Carjacking by Driving in the Fast Lane.

5. Protect Yourself from Carjacking by Getting Into Your Car When Nobody's Looking.

6. Protect Yourself from Carjacking by Focusing on What You're Doing.

7. Protect Yourself from Carjacking by Avoiding Unnecessary Stops.

The way Genesis door auto-locking system works would seem to invite carjacking, beause all four doors unlock when you put tansmission into park. I questioned at dealership whether the system could be altered on our non-tech 3.8, to unlock only driver's door, or to lock doors but not unlock. I was informed that the only option is to totally disable the auto-locking system.

Do you think the average carjacker knows what a Bentley badge looks like?

In the big scheme of things with the debt crisis, terrorism, and illness, carjacking due to my wing badges is not a major worry for me.

I did think about this prior to the rebadge. My main concern was teens (theives) prying off the rear emblem or taking one of the center caps. With this concern I left the H on the steering wheel. If the car is getting looked at, hopefully they will figure out it is a Hyundai and not a Bentley.

You have to be kidding right? The badge looks like a Mini, not a Bentley. Park next to a Mini sometime and compare badges?

I think it looks closer to a Bentley than a Mini. The Mini wings are more abstract and flaglike, then winglike...closer to Chevy bowties.

FWIW: We Lo-Jacked our Genesis and were immediately notified when they moved it at the dealership...called 3 phone numbers and e-mailed my business phone.

Nope - not worried at all. Most car jackings are to sell them off quickly to chop shops, and these guys get high volume vehicles like Camry's that blend into the background because there are so many of them and the parts are easy to sell. Our Genny's stick out like a sore thumb and the aftermarket parts are very low volume.
