  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Quick notes on V8 vs V6 vs V6 AWD

Ahh.. OK - that was uncalled for! There is nothing dumb abut driving a RWD V8 car! It's about choices to meet one's needs and desires...

precisely. I think logic went out the window a long time ago.

Like amartz says, just grab a snack and a glass of scotch and enjoy!

Make mine a boilermaker, thank you. Never liked scotch. Bourbon, now that would work!

GenesisAWD, can you explain why someone that drives a RWD v8 is poor and dumb? does driving a RWD 6 cylinder or 4 cylinder make you less poor and dumb?

Gotta be honest...I'm just in this thread to stir the pot. It's easy and surprisingly entertaining. This jim guy's livelihood is dependent on his V8. Who doesn't want to poke that bear :D

And we are only talking about engine type. What about car color? We all know that the Montecito Blue is the fastest color :D

^ Not sure that you're right in saying Montecito Blue is the fastest color.

I've got an Empire State Gray and I've ran a few busses and made it to the next stop light before them. I think this proves ESG is the fastest.

+1 - though your cool wheels makes yours faster than mine :)

Aftermarket wheels makes the car heavier not faster....unless you put some stickers - that will make the car faster

I trump you all with my GTR dry carbon hood vents. I know mine is the fastest. I removed my badges to save weight as well.

amateurs.

...color doesn't make it faster either... I obviously meant the wheels make his car look faster...

lol fair enough. and I agree, the whole premise of this v8 being any better than the lighter v6 with AWD is a stretch.

oooo ahhhhh fancy adaptive suspension.... it doesn't even actually lower the center of gravity or the ride height of the car correct? it just adjusts the dampening of the suspension to create a tighter feel.

The v6 weighs over 400 pounds less than the V8 according to Hyundai, and that 10% savings in weight on the front end would make the car a little lighter on its feet.

I took out the first aid kit and stroller from my trunk yesterday and did a few test runs on some empty roads.

According to my butt dyno, I think I can break into the lower to mid 16s if I remove my air filter completely.

I'm also thinking about removing the headrests for even more weight reduction. I'm just worried about traction loss. She may have problems hooking up from a dig.

I bet you could break into the 15s if you removed your license plate and got rid of all but 3 lug nuts on each wheel. you could also remove the rear rotor and caliper as they don't do much of the braking anyway.

oh and the rearview mirror - don't need that either.

Great ideas! Consider it done. I'll remove all that plus my ipod and take her to Irwindale tonight for Thursday night drags. I'll post timeslips later tonight. I'm afraid if I trap at 88 mph though I'll go back to October 21, 2015 so I may have to sandbag and lay off the pedal.

Oh, and I won't wear an undershirt or jacket either for even more weight reduction.

For god's sake man, don't forget a car wash!

I would leave the rear view mirror there, you never know what might happen..... "objects (a V8 cars) in mirror are closer than they appear" :D

Ok. Rear view mirror stays. In exchange stock subwoofer is out but I'm keeping my box in.

I should remove all knobs too.

I need powered by Hyundai (Genesis?) stickers.
