R2C Cold Air Intake Interest??

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

There still is no real dyno numbers for this intake, it makes that car sound cool, but i am not sure it gives any gains once the car is driven and the engine and intake tube (metal) gets hot

Your primary concern with these is the temperature of the air entering the pipe. Under full throttle conditions the air will be moving so fast that the piping will have a negligible affect on air temps.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Finally got mine after 3 week wait. It still blows my mind how horrible they are at customer service. I have never had a worse experience in my life trying to order a product, because its the only option did i keep trying. Ten days after I ordered and paid they still hadn't processed the order and when they did after I called twice, it still took then more days to get here. I hope its worth it.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

That sucks your experience was that bad. I gave them my money Friday at 4Pm and the intake is sitting at my house now. I wasn't expecting a Summit type experience where they ship that day being a much smaller company but honestly I wasn't expecting this good of service either

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

So installed it yesterday. Nice kit everything fit well. The R-spec stock airbox had a little ram air scoop on it. The stock system looked ok. Install went well it took about 45 min. Everything fit good. I know people will ask but no I cannot tell the difference in power but I don't fell anyone can feel 10HP on a butt dyno. It is just down right loud when you step on it. If you are half throttle or under you would never ever know its even there but put your foot down and boy does it growl. In fact the intake is louder than my mufflers when you floor it. im curious to see if it improves my mileage at all.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

@05king your mileage won't increase because you will be putting your foot down harder on the accelerator pedal to hear that intake growl. the sound is intoxicating. I love mine!

I average 14-16.5 mpg around town. best on highway about 24.5mpg 75-80mph

to be completely honest I am not a big fan of the noise the intake makes.

+1^

This is the reason I am not installing one. I like the car quiet and powerful. It is nice to step on the throttle and not have to tell the phone call I'm on to hang for a minute while I pass and the noise goes away.

Loud doesn't mean fast. The Genesis is quick and I like it quiet. My S Class has TTV8 and it is a rocket. But nearly silent. My wife's BMW is not as quiet but still not loud.

I do like the sound of a healthy engine. In my Mustang and in my classic cars. Not in my daily driver or my luxury cars. It's uneccesary.

To each their own.

Exactly. That's what makes life great! An ass for every seat and we all choose what we want.

I will say, I have heard the Genesis with an intake. Sounds really good. Just not for me. But I could see where it can be fun lol

There are just some certain rpm ranges when Im in the throttle that I am not crazy about. Hard to explain but almost a vibration sound to it. I checked everything for clearances and all fittings are aligned etc. Going to drive it some more and check again for clearance as the motor moves a little bit. It almost just sounds turbulent sometimes

I wonder if you're referring to partial throttle low rpm operation? The engine/intake makes a distinct noise until the trans downshifts. It sounds a bit like the engine is lugging but its perfectly normal and goes away once the trans downshifts and rpm's climb.

It's almost like a reverberating pulsing noise at lower rpms. Doesn't bother me too badly and it seems to be a symptom of many SRIs I've used over the years.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

The 3.8 is situated somewhat differently than the 4.6\5.0 V8. The throttle body is positioned farther back in the Engine bay (3.8l) from what I can tell by looking at this picture. However, the differences are relatively slight and I can't see that it would take much effort to modify this to fit he 3.8 just fine.

Kind of what I was thinking too.

Former 3.8 owner here. I built a custom intake for my 2012. You need a an "S" shaped intake for the V6, whereas the R2C is an elongated "U" shape. You could maybe get away with cutting and rotating one of the curves on the R2C unit, but i wouldn't want to be the one to test that out.
