  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How is this a cold air intake? It looks like a sri

Are you talking about my post?

If you are, please notice that I put the CAI in quotation marks. It is not a CAI. But they still got a 15WHP gain over the stock air box as proven in their video. In the end, HP is the king. CAI, SRI, AI, give me the ponies! :D

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Yes i was talking about yours. Im wondering if anyone has tried this ebay kit. He offers a cold air and short ram for our cars. What do you guy think.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

If I can get +15P, then count me in.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Is this for sale or something?

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Sounds like it would work for the 3.8. Does state that will not work on 2013.

So us R Spec owner are still looking for the right system!!

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Any update on this?

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I sent an email yesterday no response yet

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Any reply guys?

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I've owned my Genesis for about 2 months, and in that time I've tried to remedy this problem on my own - I didn't care for the results, but maybe someone else will use the information.

In my desperation to actually hear the V8 lurking under the hood of my car I decided to take it upon myself to change the intake. I initially removed the entire filter housing, the "bottles" on the intake pipe and plugged those holes with plugs used for residential plumbing and hose clamps; I also used a generic 4" filter fitted directly to the MAF. Ideal? Nope, not at all. It was not a viable solution because the weight of the MAF and filter along with nothing to support them (aside from a rigged up solution using a massive hose clamp) meant the whole assembly hung very low, to the point of reducing air flow. As for the increase in performance, there was no appreciable change aside from the sound, which was nice at WOT but terrible at partial throttle. Maybe it's because I'm used to driving a manual transmission, but it sounded pretty bad at partial throttle. It sounded fine in manual mode, until you bogged down in X gear, remedied by shifting to X-1 gear.

Next up, I put most of the filter housing back together, save for the flap assembly at the bottom of the big filter housing and the green post filter in the top section and took the 4" filter off the MAF. This, of course, alleviated the assembly hanging problem, but there was still no performance increase and it still sounds goofy at partial throttle, just quieter.

All in all, if you're curious what it sounds like then you can spend 25 minutes and $25 on a generic 4" filter or just take some parts off for free. The above solutions still runs through the stock air intake hose so I'm sure that affects the performance and sound, but I'm not sure to what degree. Without putting a PVC intake or piecing together an aluminum one, I'm not sure what the change would be. That still wouldn't change the partial throttle sound, which is a function of the transmission and shift points.

To each their own, this was my experience.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I started a new thread, since there has been no reply from R2C after multiple emails and phone calls from multiple people, including myself.

Whether there is interest/support or not, I will be going in the direction outlined within that thread. I'll let you know how it turns out. :D

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Tailwalker, good call with the new thread, I have been absent as I have not been with R2C for the past couple of months and have no idea what is going on with all the projects that I left behind. I also am quite curious to if we will ever get the products that I designed and know work quite well. I'm really regretting not building myself anything before leaving as I really miss that prototype that I had so long ago. I am actually starting a new profile on here as I have no more associations with R2C and the name could become misleading. I am now with a different aftermarket performance company but unfortunately we have specific focus vehicles and I won't be convincing them to enter the Genesis market as they typically work on forced induction engines or convert supercars to forced induction.

Sorry forum for getting hopes up for an aftermarket performance solution for the Genny so long ago an it failing so poorly. If I ever hear that anything has changed I will be sure to alert the forum.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

John - thank you for the follow up. Congrats on the new gig, and good luck!

It sucks that R2C has failed in producing the part, but what is most disappointing is the customer service/follow up. This is no fault of yours, and is in no way a reflection of you, but of the company itself. I would much rather have purchased a ready to install kit from them than fabricate my own, but such is life. I hope that others have as much interest in this as I do, but I can understand if the perception is 'heard it before/I'll wait to see if this really happens'.

It is frustrating, but understandable that there is little in the way of performance products for the 4.6, or the Genny in general. It's due to the culture in Korea, as modding is 'illegal' and an underground scene. Mostly rich kids and whatnot from what I understand. Also, the 4.6 in not available in Korea, so any support is going to have to come from the community demand here in the US.

Please, if you don't mind sharing, send me your thoughts for this project? I essentially know where we plan to go with this, but having insight from someone in the industry is a fantastic resource. It's pretty straight forward, but something as simple as a source for the heat shield would be helpful. I'm pushing for mandrel bent stainless that the end-user could powdercoat if they desired. It should be fairly simple, as long as we can fit the MAF and other connections without a hitch. Please PM me with any knowledge you would be willing to offer up.

Guys, if you are indeed interested, please comment in my other thread. You can have a look at my exhaust thread to see the caliber work that the shop does. I am extremely pleased with the setup, which included custom X pipe to give a more European tone. We were going with an Eisenmann/Meisterschaft clone, and came as close as you can get. Luckily, the motor sounds very similar to a Merc. Wonder why that is? lol.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I would for sure be interested in a CAI for my '13 5.0 RSPEC.

Cold Air Intake Interest??

Good news. Prototype worked well. Dyno results and pic/video will be placed on the other thread. Pretty happy with the results

That's great news, I can't wait to see the pics and hopefully video. Also, purchase information, if it's available!

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

There is video and pictures on the 4.6 interest thread. Check it out!

Not convinced

Despite anything a dyno might show I found that two mods seemed to make the car more sluggish from a dead spot: the "CAI" and the cat deletes. Here's a few vids:

Magnaflow exhaust only

Magnaflow plus CAI (actually an SRI I Think)
http://youtu.be/smmhf0eEoyoag

These vids stop at 60+ mph but it's really obvious 0-100. It's a second or so slower. MUCH louder if that's what your looking for
