  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

There are already solutions for the 3.8 and 5.0 let this man take care of us 4.6 owners lol. Glad to see you on board. I will buy one for sure!

Not a true CAI. Just a few people who have put some tubes together with a cone filter on the end. It sill draws in HOT air from the engine comparment.

As Rey has mentioned, we want a TRUE CAI. One that draws in cold air from the front of the vehicle, not from the engine comparment. As a side bonus of this type of set up, you also get a bit of a ram air effect, which will also help boost power.

One system could fit all three vehicles. Just may need a peice or two for the interface to the engine. But the basic box design and outside air intake should be the same which would cut down on R&D.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Hey all, glad to see this thread has been growing steadily. I'm sorry I haven't been able to get moving on this yet, it has been very crazy around my office working on other higher priority systems. I do plan on getting a start this weekend however by doing an initial mock-up of an air-box filter combination on my car that would mount to the factory tube and isolate the better flow conical filter from the engine heat. This is just to get an idea on how things will look and if this is a promising project. The company is still a little iffy on the intake market for our vehicles so this will be a spare time project.

I have not had the opportunity to handle a 5.0L first hand so maybe you R-spec guys can help me out here, do all the 5.0L engines have the spacer that I highlighted in the attached picture which seems to take the place of the MAF that is on the 4.6?

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Just checked my '12 R Spec.

Looks like the picture. It is a round plastic tube of about 2.25-2.5 inches in length. It has 2 mounting bolts that mount it to the air box and a screw clamp that mounts the intake tube to it.

If you can show a picture of a 4.6 or 3.8 air box and tube, we could tell if that is a spacer to replace the MAF.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

This is what the 4.6 engines look like. Based upon what I've read and the images the airbox and sensor/tube section appear to be similar. So as it appears the two vehicles could use a common system.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I think your right. On the R Spec/GDI engine, it looks like the MAF has been replaced with a small section of tubing.

Not sure what year the pic is of the 4.6 but the only difference I see in the systems other than the MAF is that the GDI has a secondary filter in the noise cancellation box that is on the right. That is what that little angled peice is in top. It is a cover that is removed and a secondary filter is under there. It's not on the 4.6.

Glad this is still moving forward as soon as one is available just let me know where to send the cash.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Yes, I am still moving forward with the process in my spare time outside of work. But have hit a few snags recently. First during a brainstorming fit-up I was unable to fit a filter of sufficient size into the car since the headlight assembly was deeper into the car the originally anticipated so the possibility of reusing the original tube and replacing the airbox with a conical filter and heat shield is not a viable option, so I will be needing to make a prototype tube as well. Second my car in now at the body shop as I was rear ended last week and pushed into another car, so I will not be able to do any work on it until I get it back in a week or so. I'll give another update once the car is back in my hands and I am able to do a tube and shield fitment.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Sorry to hear about the accident. Hope you and the family are OK.

Have you lookd at a possible over the radiator style of intake? Not sure if it would work or not. Varraram is one company that makes them for other cars. I know the made one for the Pontiac G8 and they layed the radiator back some so that it would fit. A possible Idea.

Bump for the hell of it. Get the car back yet?

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I've had a 4.6 since June I'm Intreasured in a cai.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I'm in if/when available. Thanks for sharing your updates with us.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I just bought a 4.6 less than a week ago and I'm looking for a CAI. Thanks for your efforts and +1. My money is waiting for your kit! :p

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Hey all, I know I've been MIA for a while now. It hasn't been my luckiest couple of months, I did receive my car back from the body shop looking as good as ever after I was rear ended but only a few short weeks after that I lost a fight with a table saw and was taken out of work for 2 months. I am back in the office now and got the go ahead to begin some in office design work started. We're glad to see that the interest has continued to grow.
