R2C Cold Air Intake Interest??

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Hey all, I've received messages concerning how loud the intake truly is. I can say it is quite loud when the engine is under a heavy load, I definitely wouldn't call it too loud even at its loudest but yet I am young and like that sort of thing. For anyone concerned though it is not a loud system all the time or even most the time, you really choose when you want it loud or not by the accelerator pedal. During daily driving you wont even notice it is there. Then you feel like crushing someone at a stop light ad it will growl the whole way.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Just bought the last one today. Spoke with Ed on the phone, very nice guy and knowledgeable. They will have more in 3 weeks so anyone who missed out you can still get yours.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Just received mine today and got it installed.

I would agree with the previous post, it does bring out the "growl" in the V8 that we have under our hoods.

The car is quiet as can be until you decide to give it some throttle. Then the car comes alive with awesome V8 sounds. While under load at low RPMs or WOT at full acceleration, my stereo on 10 for the volume almost drowns out the noise completely.

I can't tell if this has added any horsepower (at least as far as I can tell with the limited time that I have had to test it), but it definitely adds that "je ne sais quoi" to the car.

This video is exactly how it sounds:

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Flynblind you said on the video you also have the cat deletes which I found when I had them increases the engine growl.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

That wasn't my car or me in the video.

Even though they did say cat deletes, it does sound exactly like that inside the car.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Quick clip of sound inside cabin with just intake installed w/ acceleration.

I must say the first time I heard it, it shocked & scared me! I thought the coupler had blew off. It's loud but it doesn't really bother me, and you wont hear it until your above 2k RPMs. For example, if your wife or girlfriend is sleep she will definitely know if you get on it without opening their eyes. While driving and talking on BT yesterday they knew each time I was going around someone.

I noticed WAY less delay than stock when accelerating from a cruising speed and although I tried but the kick down only activated once. Even without the kick down the car accelerates smooth and strong.

I also noticed the PCV hose from driver size valve cover was wet when installing, I believe I'm going to install a catch can next.

Engine bay is extremely dirty but here are some pics

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

After installing mine I noticed it is difficut to close the hood of the car now. I can close it with force but not as easy as before.

I think it might be the top of the heat shield on the inside of the hood.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Yes, the intake was originally designed for the removal of the factory duct, but was figured out that if the heat shield and tube are clocked right it fits with it the duct still installed. I was running mine without the factory duct and then trimmed the end of the backside of the duct off where its not visible so there are no possible interference point.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Just installed my MagnaFlow 15059 exhaust on the car. This intake plus the exhaust make for a wonderful V8 sound when under throttle.

Both are relatively unobtrusive under low to mid throttle. But when you hit the gas, the CAI and the exhaust start a growl together that sounds really good!

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I know the purpose of the shield is to block the engine heat from the cone. But when i see this intakes shield it looks like the shield is blocking the cooler outside air from getting to the cone..
If you look at the front grille the shield is blocking that cooler air. there is also a ledge behind the headlight that is closing off cool air also. My question is.. Where is this intake getting its cooler air from with that shield in the way?

I had the weapon-r intake and the fitment was terrible (sent that POS right back to them). But the shield let air in from the left corner of the grille. This intake looks like its not letting any air in.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

You sure about that? when the hood is closed it looks like the shield is blocking that also.. If the shield is touching the hood as others have mentioned, that air isn't getting to the filter..

I like this intake but when looking at it closely, the amount of air its getting could be better.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

That duct over the grill has a tube running down and into the bottom corner below the air filter.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

The duct above the grill hits the shield with not much hope of that air reaching the intake cold. Plus, in my case, I chose to remove the duct instead of modifying it.

However, there are two openings where cold air can reach the intake. One is underneath the headlight assembly pulling air from behind the bumper cover. This is the same area that the infamous flapper valve drew air from. The second one is near the bottom of the same area but would have limited flow of air as there are a lot of obstructions and the hole is small.

I like the way the air is getting into the "chamber" where the filter is located. It is not from the engine compartment and the openings seem large enough to draw enough air in to the intake. Plus, the chance of getting water splashed onto the filter is almost not existent.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

OK, that makes a little more sense. After trying that weapon r intake their shield blocked off a lot of the incoming air.
