  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It could be very useful if at least 15-20 regular forum members did some data collection over about a 60-day period, using the following data points:

- Car/engine: 3.8/4.6/5.0 non-R-Spec/5.0 R-Spec

- Fuel octane used: 87/89/91/92/93

- Miles driven: ( # )

- Miles type: Approximate ratio of City to Highway

- Gallons used: ( # )

- Driving style: Aggressive every day/Sporting on occasion/Conservative all the time

The more members who participate, the more valid the findings should be. No computer read outs! We could monitor from now until the beginning of April, and then all begin posting.

Any takers!

I use Fuelly at the pump using my smartphone. Easy as pie.

91 octane. Lead foot. Mostly city driving. Been tracking since I drove it from the dealer garage.

I have all of the information you are requesting on my vehicle since I bought it in July of 2012. I even have "showing" MPG vs. actual, if you want to add that to the list as well.

I will post up later when I get home. When you say "no computer readouts", what do you mean?

What I meant was, the car's mpg readout, which we already know is off by 1-3 from actual. I suppose we could include that reading as well.

That's what I thought you meant; as you said we all know it is off, so why bother including it, right?

I will edit my original post with the info.

I am averaging 18.3 MPG but I do pure city driving to/from work. Only about a 5 mile commute.

I have 2012 Genesis purchased May 7,2012 with 8567 miles used only 87 octane gas. Records taken from Roadtrip app on iPad. Car reports ~ 2 mpg more than RoadTrip. Best mileage 30.2 mpg, worst (once) 19.81 mpg. Overall average 24.95.
consider 50/50 city/highway, but I live in rural Texas Hill Country.

I don't keep formal records, but I keep a "mental" tally;) My commute is fairly regular, so I usually fill up every 380-400 miles every 4 work days...I religiously reset my trip A computer every time I fill up. Average fill-up is right around 17 gallons, so that works out 22.3-23.5 MPG.

I have a 2009, 4.6, get regular 87 octane only, I've driven the car about 10k miles since purchasing it. Commute is 65/35 highway/city. Mostly casual driving but I stomp it on occasion:D Looks like I'm doing better than average than even some V6 owners.

Why would anyone buy a performance sedan, particularly one with a V8, then worry about MPG?

Just for grins, my R-spec gets in the low 20's when I drive and about 2-3 MPG less when wifey drives (city driving). Haven't had it out on the highway yet enough to tell what constant speed mileage is.

Well for me i came from a 400hp that got better gas mpg and i was looking for something similar. Your comment may hold true for people who have an unlimited fuel allowance. However people who by hyundais do so for value. Im sure you comment would change if you were getting 8 mpg. For me the line in the sand is 14 mpg. I knew id take a hit going to a v8 and am ok with current mpg.check the projections for gas prices if we keep our cars for 10 years is insane.

Time will tell

4.6L

60/40 (highway to city)

93 octane premium

Sport driving 50% of time

I drive roughly 240 miles on a tank

20.5 MPG in the winter

23.1 MPG in summer

How many of you have checked how accurately your od. recordes milage. I became curious about this when I checked my speed as indicated on the speedo against actual. I found I need to indicate 68 - 69 mph to actually run 65 mph. The milage recorded is less than the actual miles driven by 6.6 to 6.7 miles per 100 driven. I round down to 6 miles per 100 when factoring this into mpg calculations. I find the mpg indicated by the computer is within a couple of fractions of my calculations after allowing for this difference. I have checked this several times with the same results. I used the markings on the hwy. that the State Patrol uses for aircraft speed checks to check the actual milage against the milage being recorded on the od. Interestingly the F150 I drive records milage short of actual also. Difference is not the same but if I factor in the difference the computer mpg is accurate. Any one else experience this.

It seems that most of the on board mileage systems indicate about 1-2 mpg optimistic. I don't know if the tank is usually a bit larger than listed or it is just a calibration issue. Many pilots are using a similar system in light aircraft. They do need to be calibrated to work accurately though.

Mine is a bit optimistic every single tank. I'd say the average 1-2mpg on the optimistic side.

There's always one screwball in the bunch ;)

Mostly hwy miles and dash says 23 to 24 mpg. I don't pay much attention to it though. If I did care about mpg I would not have purchased a 4.6 V8 and a Merc. E500 V8(which gets about 17 I think.)

Here's my first fill-up since reading this thread. Some notes, I pretty much always fill-up at the same Luk-Oil station in town (cheapest). Here in Jersey it's full-serve and the attendant pretty much always just let it run until the pump shut-off kicks in, doesn't top off to the nearest dollar since I use my debit card. I always reset my Trip A before exiting the gas station (OCD;)).

- Car/engine: 4.6 V8

- Fuel octane used: Regular 87

- Miles driven: 343.5

- Miles type: 35% city, 65% highway

- Gallons used: 15.22

- Mileage: 22.57 (miles/gallons)

- Driving style: mostly conservative, only occasional gassing it.

This pretty much hits my average exactly every time for my typical work commute. Not too shabby for a pretty powerful V8, I'm happy with it. Does better than my Dad's older Audi 2.7T ever did, of course that had Quattro but still wasn't as quick.

2012 5.0 Non R-Spec
Tracked since I took delivery June 6th, to date, almost all Northern California area.

8129 miles, 369.94 gallons = 21.97mpg

Fuel: 50/50 Shell 87, Costco 91
Driving Style: average/normal
60% Highway, 40% City

I am pretty satisfied with this result. This is about the same as my old car (Audi TT 3.2) and better than my wife's Lexus RX330 which never seems to get over 19mpg.

Yanno I was going to post, but my numbers are so close to Smoov to make it redundant to post. Just see Smoov's post for my numbers :-).

I have a 2013 sedan with tech pkg. It is two weeks old. My first trip of about 190 from Evansville IN to Indy via the new I69 and I was able to get 29.2 per car info ( I didn't calc.) I drove mostly 75 on I69 and I70 and slightly slower on two lane roads.

I would assume it will improve as it breaks in. I am quite happy with that mpg for a car with 333 HP.
