  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Some days I get only the lines on the screen and no picture. The next day it is fine. I'm sure if I bring it to the dealer it will work fine that visit! Anyone have this problem and a solution?

Thanks,
Dick

When this happens take a short video of it if you can so you have something to show the service technician. It sounds like potential intermittent interference between the camera and the screen, or a loose connection in the shifting knob. When it happens it might be reporting an error code which the system will keep stored...not 100% positive on that though, please keep us in the loop on what you find out.

This happened to me so I video taped the whole thing with examples of what it did and showed it to the dealer. They ended up changing out the whole camera for me and never had a problem ever since.

It happens to me every now and then when it rains

Thanks for the video taping idea. It has been working fine since I posted this question but I know it's not over yet.

yanno now that I think about it, it seems to be pretty moist or humid when it's happened to me as well.

I like what other posters have said about taking a video; I will do that next time.

Prob a bad power or video connection. Intermittent failure is usually an indication of a poor or sloppy or bad connection...connectors, corrosion....etc.

I just had the problem fixed today...the cables to the backup camera were "kinked" according to the Service Manager. The camera was replaced today, so I don't really know if the fix took care of the problem.
Info: I have a 2012 with tech and premium. My radio, at times, did not work. There was no service bulletin for the 2012 model. Turns, out my 2012 was built in May 2011. There was a service bulletin for a radio upgrade for 2009-2011 models. The software upgrade was necessary for my 2012 due to the build date of the vehicle. The dealer solved the issue with the radio and I hope the camera solves the problem with showing only lines on the screen when backing up.

Means the cable was either crushed or yanked or whatever so that the wires were making intermittent contact. Happens with network Cat5 and Cat6 cables...they often get smashed by office equipment, yanked, twisted....good to see your problem is, as Inspector Clouseau would say, "solve-ED"....

After being on order for a month, they replaced my camera. So far, 3 weeks and everything's good.

Problem solved. New camera (same channel), and an updated software fix for my radio (head unit).

I've got mine in for camera replacement now; should have it back tomorrow. Hopefully Hyundai will replace enough of these that they correct the problem at the factory (whether it's a part or a manufacturing issue).

Happened to me, took it in and they unplugged it and plugged it back in, hasn't happened since but they said they would replace the camera if it continues. It seemed to happen after washing it or rain.

The camera problem in my car is definitely caused by intermittent contact in a wiring harness. I can reproduce the problem by tapping on the trunk lid liner near where the camera is. I plan to have the dealer take a look during my next visit.

I am having the same problem. I have 43K miles on the car will this still be covered? I have already head every piece of my stereo replaced so the dealer is probably already sick of seeing me.

I was at the dealership for the same issue, they said that i would loose the warranty in 2 months i.e., 3 years and 36k for nav, stereo, electrical etc.,

Hence i purchased the platinum coverage

I just had my camera replaced on 8/25/12. The technician told me that the camera had an internal failure. I also took pictures and videotaped it as several other forum members have and that was a great piece of advice. Thanks again!!

I own a 4.6 Genesis Sedan and had the camera replace at 10K miles and just replaced today at 24K miles. Occasional black line screen was the issue. Like another posted, if I hit on the trunk surface or the liner, the camera would often come back on. This does indeed seem to be an issue that needs a TSB but I have not seen reference to one. Perhaps I just missed the thread.
My dealer in Long Island City,NY is always very responsive and covers this under warranty but there must be a design or assembly weakness in the Genesis.
Other than this, a fantastic car.

Unless the camera really is out, I can't understand why dealers would replace it. It should be a lot easier to check and tighten any connections in the wiring harness. My camera has been working fine for a few weeks, but I'm still going to ask the dealer to check the wiring the next time I'm there.
