  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rear camera working on and off.

Has anyone on this list accessed the camera assembly on the Genesis sedan? I assume the trunk liner is removed to do this. If so, is the wiring readily accessible?
Thanks.

Unless the camera really is out, I can't understand why dealers would replace it. It should be a lot easier to check and tighten any connections in the wiring harness. My camera has been working fine for a few weeks, but I'm still going to ask the dealer to check the wiring the next time I'm there.

that's assuming that the dealers are actually removing and replacing the cameras and not just fixing the old cameras and claiming to replace them since we won't be able to tell the difference.

If you review the warranty claim you sign you will be able to tell what they are billing the factory for. Probably difficult to repair and claim replacement. No big market for Genesis rear cameras that I know of and the dealer risks an audit for what $100?

Just took mine back for a 2nd time and they finally ordered a new camera, they also ordered a new switch for the telescopic wheel adjustment. Told them the stereo was quiet one day, normal the next....they said it tested ok? We'll see:rolleyes:

I took my car in yesterday and told the service advisor that I could reproduce the problem (or make it go away) by tapping on the trunk lid liner near the camera, so they should check the wiring first. When I got it back, he said that they couldn't reproduce the problem, but "reset the camera software" per Hyundai's guidance. When I asked about the wiring, he replied that yes, they checked that, too. Not sure I even believe that. Anyway, the first time I tried to back out of my garage the same day, there was no image on the screen. I may try looking under the trunk lid liner myself.

I got the car back after they replaced the head unit and the backup camera

I do not see the navigation screen being replaced, not sure what a head unit is, anyone with any tips on this?

Take a picture of it when it's not working and make them replace the camera. If Hyundai replaces enough cameras, then maybe they'll get to the real problem.

I brought my car in the other day because the replacement sun visor they ordered had come in. There's apparently a TSB for this - the cover over the mirror only slides a half-inch or so - though some may consider this a feature. :)

They said that I'd have to make an appointment to replace the visor, since it's a warranty issue. So I told them about the backup camera and they are ordering a new one, even though I couldn't prove to them that it's failing intermittently. Since my last trunk lid slam, the camera has been working perfectly - I will take a video or pic the next time it happens, though.
